is that the norm? cos that is awesome if everyone who's scottish HAS to belive nessy
It is actually a citizenship requirement.
If it's hard for all of you to read, it says only at private christian academies that are using a certain form/battery of education would be teaching this.
It does not include every school in the US.
Thank you Captain Obvious, but these academies are using public funding, which is the real political problem.

You're thrown from the top of Ben Nevis if you don't believe.
I believe in the Greek gods because I read about them in the Percy Jackson books.
Sometimes you have to believe something to see it.
Thousands of children are to receive publicly-funded vouchers enabling them to attend the schools – which follow a strict fundamentalist curriculum.
The Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) programme teaches controversial religious beliefs, aimed at disproving evolution and proving creationism.
This pisses me off immensely. If you want to follow a PRIVATE programme that is not the official government-funded programme you should not be able to do that off PUBLIC money.
"Pupils attending privately-run Christian schools in the southern state of Louisiana will learn from textbooks next year, which claim Scotland’s most famous mythological beast is a living creature."
Oh thank Jebus, I thought the schools were public. Fucking gave me a heart attack.
The fact that they're using this as "evidence" is proof that these people should not be educators.
"let's lie to kids so we feel better about ourselves for supporting a dumb religion"
You're thrown from the top of Ben Nevis if you don't believe.
My great uncle McNavish was tossed down Ben Nevis for claiming the beast didn't exist.
BY THE BEAST ITSELF
What if Loch Ness turned out to be sentient and believes in evolution.
You're thrown from the top of Ben Nevis if you don't believe.
Or your fed to the Grand Piano there.
You are the result of four billion years of evolution, and you are clearly wasting the time spent on it. Please remove yourselves from the gene pool.
Poor children.
Does the bible even say that there's no such thing as evolution?
As far as I know, it just says that god created a bunch of animals. But there's proof that they mutated and evolved. Why do they believe that just because god created animals, that they can't have mutated?

Then it's obviously satan.

That's what the reasonable Christians believe.
The ones you never hear about because their beliefs don't hurt anybody and they live their life happily, among others.
As a resident of Scotland I apologise on behalf of all Scots that we have gave fundies ammunition and fuel for their dumb ideas.

I knew the private schools in my state were already batshit insane but this takes the cake.

why can't these insane Christians just accept the facts around evolution?
I know a lot of Christians who believe in it, hell, my Biology teacher who was a deep Southern Baptist taught evolution and explained it all and was a firm believer in it. It's ridiculous.
but... bu-but... you don't... but... i give up
I think we need an official press release from Ireland on this one folks.
Then again, I wouldn't want their tourism hurt by this.
v:v:v
Do these people actually think about what they do before they do it? Not anybody who's religious, just the ones who make themselves look like idiots when trying to prove something.
How many kids go to private christian schools anyways?
Religious people make things up? Well I never...
Only a series of textbooks says this that are only being sent to some select private schools.
Wow, I hate how you guys screw up the title just to make people without a brain judge the article before they even read it.
Even if nessie was real, plesiosaurs aren't even dinosaurs.
