Yay, now the news won't be about the protests 24/7 anymore.
Modern revolutions don't need guns.
About time :buddy:
FUCK YEAH!
Just a damned shame people died because of this...
And now we wait for the people to get sick of the new regime.
Only thing that's a little worrying is how the army is now in charge of "running the affairs of the country". Then again, if the guy who made the I love baton thread is reliable on these matters, the Egyptian army seem alright guys.
Hooray! Let's hope the military won't turn the country into a militaristic authoritarian nation. The Egyptian people want and deserve a democracy.
Also hope they find and imprison the son of a bitch Mubarak.
I am more interested in seeing what happens next. Is there anyone here with more knowledge of Egyptian politics? Do they have any real plan for reform (elections etc.)?
Sweet, this is good news for Egypt and I suppose the rest of the world.
WoooooooOooooooOOOoooo
Speaking of systems of government, I know we are pretty well off when it comes to that but I do hope they eventually come out of this with a better implementation of "democracy" than us.
Democracy is and always has been just a buzz/umbrella term that features that seem desirable are thrown under and added to every day.
Still doesn't stop uninformed people being given a say in matters that they don't understand i.e. technophobes deciding on laws about the internet and drug laws being passed based on laissez-faire and kneejerk movements rather than actual evidence because the people deciding on them have no relevant knowledge whatsoever and ignore the advisors that do.

The goal is to try to get http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_ElBaradei in charge.
Wow. This literally just happened. Egypt has the same timezone as me :c00l:
Also this is awesome
Holy shit I was NOT expecting this.
Expect hours and hours of fascists on Fox News talking about how bad this is and how we've lost to TEH MOESLUM BORHETHEOUD
Funny because I hear it being talked about more on CNN and other more "liberal" tv stations.
Now it's just a case of them getting a decent government in.

Do they have plans for election, or is the military just going to hand over control?
I don't know much, other than the fact I thought our administration (Clinton specifically) supported Suleiman and government led reform

Actually, they have banners at the bottom saying: "Mubarak steps down after 18 days of pro-democratic protest."
I woke up to it okay, fox is all my very conservative mother watches. Can't be arsed to change the channel because I'm a lazy fuck.

It seems the people want a proper democracy. I can't see them walking into another dicatorship anytime soon.

No one knows - right now its under military control - THERE WILL BE ELECTIONS
His government will instate a puppet president and nothing will change.
You guys should be happy that Mubarak listened to the protesters. And not some asshole dictator who stays until September.

But he didn't listen, if he listed he would have stepped down 18 days ago. He was forced from power by someone.
I'm just a tad worried that the power has been shifted towards the MILITARY. The Air force and the top of the military are generally Mumbarak supporters (high education, big paychecks) whilst the common soldier there is usually from farmlands/general population.

Currently everyone in Egypt is for ElBaradei. I'd assume the Army would collaborate with the people to set up a democracy.
