I think these guys, the "Lizard Squad", was responsible for shutting down some of the DotA 2 servers aswell. Oh and they hit Blizzard and PlayStation Network too.
A botnet is a series of computers infected with rootkit malware. The only intent I know of for a botnet is just to impose a massive DDOS by using all the infected server to send requests to a server. So no, nothing was stolen. [editline]1st December 2014[/editline] Also I thought Microsoft removed the restriction of having Live to use Netflix.
Botnet's are used for: Mining D(D)os attacks Able to spread malware or infect them all with a worm or make them complete survey's/polls, install adware identitiy theft etc keylogging and such
A bunch of kids rented a botnet with moms credit card and think they've accomplished something noteworthy, what else is new.
It must have been one hell of a botnet to take XBL offline though.
It must have been one hell of a botnet to take XBL offline though.
Just a lot of infected bots on different networks to be honest doesn't take like a million
Wait so you needed a premium membership to watch your accounts which you pay for already? i knew xbox was shit but honestly?
The Xbox division was fairly insane back in 2005/2006 so I'm assuming it was leftovers from that. They had the hold on the market since the PS3 was certainly not getting the sales and the Wii's online was practically a joke at the time so they could keep stuff like this around. By the time that the PS3 caught up and Netflix/Hulu became bigger things people got used to it I guess.
I was wondering about this. It kept having me enter my microsoft ID stuff and then kicking me off as soon as I signed in.
Pretty sure these guys are posers. Lizard Squad had a run a few months back IIRC and crippled a bunch of servers before the FBI came down on them hard. Probably another group of attention seekers using the name to gain a false level of recognition.

This is most likely a new group of stupid teenagers.
Welcome back Lizard Squad! Must have gotten a few new members + their partnership with ••••••••••••. They have been gone for awhile, get ready to put Lizard on Ya forehead.
I get attacking sites for things such as activism but what point other than "hurr durr we can h4x0rz" are they attempting to make.. Also a DDoS Attack shouldn't be called hacking, its something any 12 year old can evidently do by launching a program and clicking a button.
