Whoa, whoa, whoa, "use of deadly force if you believe your life is in danger" ?
Does that mean you can actually shoot to death absolutely anyone who gets close to you, as long as you believe he will cut you with a knife ? That's fucking retarded.
Also, yeah, he emptied the whole gun on a kid. THE WHOLE MAGAZINE.
What the hell, do they really sell guns to anyone without even checking if they can shoot without panicking and keep pressing the trigger ?
If you jump at me with a friend late at night when I'm just jogging and punch me in the face, I'm not taking any chances nor can I ensure that I will remain level-headed enough to fire 1 then check what's going on.
Guy had every right to defend himself, it was night out, he was being mugged, I fail to see problem with what he did.
Edit:
I predict JDK and Tetracycline trolling the thread.

I fully agree.

Are you 12? If someone killed somebody else because they ''thought'' they were about to be attacked and it really was an unreasonable act, then they would go to jail. Also, what do you think is harder to do when you're panicking in a dangerous situation? To continue firing or to stop firing?
If any of you saying that he is in the wrong for firing 8 shots haven't played paintball/airsoft then please go do it. You will see how hard it is to shoot once when someone jumps around a corner at you. It's hard to do while playing a game so imagine how difficult it would be if you just got punched in the face alone at night.
if some random punk came up to me and punched me in the face with no clear cause i would sure as hell defend myself.
besides who the fuck does that anyway? surely not someone who is sane. Either that or they are one of the dumbest sons of bitches ever born.
I agree with this law because it allows citizens to defend themselfs without fear of being hauled off just because they want to protect their life. If someone came and attacked me and my children and I felt they were a danger with reasonable force I would shoot to kill if I had to defend myself.
There are non-lethal ways to defend oneself these days and I wish they'd be preferred over guns especially if you can't stop yourself from firing uncontrollably in panic when you're attacked. Pepper spray would've saved this guy from the muggers just as well.

Ok so when you're out jogging at night and some punk runs up to you and goes "give me all your shit motherfucker i got a knife ill cut your throat " then runs up towards you what are you doing to do? Apparently you must think all robberies go very pleasantly, where the robber politely asks for the victims cash and even offers to give them a blowjob in exchange, before waving goodbye and walking away with the money with no one being harmed.
I don't know though, I guess its easy to have that mindset when you're safe behind a computer screen reading events as text in the news afterwards and not actually ever been in a dangerous situation aside from a call of duty shootout.
justice system working for once

I doubt there's many people that would be as paranoid as sticking a gun out in the smallest sign of danger, and being punched the face is clearly a good reason for someone to feel threatened.

Try being in the same position as him, I doubt anyone can hold themselves from panicking to aim properly for a non-lethal shot.
"im going jogging...let me just grab my handgun."

Pepper spray is good if you're jumped by only one guy, they're two so chances are the other guy would immobilize you before you could spray him.
I find it strange he went for a late night jog and had a pistol in his pocket.
If I lived in a dangerous area and went jogging at night I guess I would carry a gun too.
There's self defence and there's excessive force.
If he'd fired one shot and killed a kid it wouldn't be so bad, this guy fired 8 times, that's excessive if you ask me.
He was scared for his life, he fired the shots out of fear, if you're jumped by 2 guys at night and one of them punches you you're not going to wait for the chance one of them pulls a knife and stabs you if you fight back, if they're out at night robbing people, chances are they will have some sort of weapon.
I'm pretty sure just pulling the gun, or firing a single scare shot would've been enough.
read trough the article and i dont see the problem. jogger had a permit and a real good reason for self defence, he carried $500+ on him that night and was attacked first. i wish i was allowed to protect my life with a gun and not worry about charges.
I'm pretty sure just pulling the gun, or firing a single scare shot would've been enough.
Though statistics do show that in situations where firearms are used defensively, 98% end without a single shot or only a warning shot being fired (i'll pull that up later), you have to put into consideration that being jumped in the middle of the night and punched in the face kinda screws with your rationale.

What? Is this just a random guess of yours or do you have any reasoning for it? Any flaw in the design of pepper spray canisters that prevents it from being used against two people? Any tests to prove that it's ineffective when there are multiple attackers?

That guy is irrelevant to this article.
All I know is when shit hit's the fan, it'll be the ones with guns who stand above, rather than below.
The guys who stand above get shit rained all over them while the rest can take cover below them

One of the thugs may be smart enough to sneak from behind and disarm your pepper spray, when that happens you're screwed.
A scenario where someone is able to sneak behind you and disable your only method of protecting yourself is bad for you regardless.

That's true but firing a gun has a chance on scaring off the attackers (that's if you're not disarmed by then or heavily outnumbered).

Firing a gun is more likely to provoke them to kill you if they get the chance. This is just speculation I don't think has much to do with the death of this teenager. Pepper spray would've stopped the kids without anyone dying and I sincerely hope that in modern urban areas that would be the case often enough for people not to have to resort to deadly weapons.
You guys don't seem to get it.
If you are in a situation where you are willing to fire the gun, you should be willing to kill with it.
8 shots doesn't mean shit, you fire until the threat is eliminated.
From what I hear from UK FPers there's enough chavs on the street to warrant the need for a law like this
The teenager is at fault here.First of all, he punched the guy in the head and said "'I'm gonna knock him out".This is more then a reason to have your life in danger. If you say when your jogging at late night and someone does this your not gonna pull out your handgun, panicking, shoot him ? Yes, you are.You will be so shitlessly scared that you will just insta-pull that trigger.
Now this is a obvious action since the guy isn't trained to deal with these kinda people. So please don't think OH MY GAWD POOR KID GOT SHOT STEPID MRDERER OMG LOLZ ! BANDWAGON !

I find it somewhat funny that you're trying to, in a way, poison the well by portraying the people arguing against you as idiots who can't spell while your own English is almost as horrid.
He shot 8 times, he had the intent to kill not defend himself...
It's the same thing.
I would've fired once to scare them shitless. No need to empty the whole pistol on someone.
He probably just panicked and pulled the trigger over and over.
