he thought the attacker was armed

i can understand that phrase if it was in a defensive situation but that phrase is stupid in anything other than that
how can anyone in their right mind think that's a reasonable excuse to shoot somebody point blank?
how can anyone in their right mind think that's a reasonable excuse to shoot somebody point blank?
It's called invasion of personal space. If someone were to attack me, and I had gun, I'd pull it out, but not shoot. I'd give them a warning. Either get back, or I assume your armed. If they come at me, then I pull the trigger. Simple as that.
Point being, people who can't kill, will always be subject to those who can. It's survival. Basic human instinct.
I don't mind the fact that he got off the charges
Actually I'm glad.. Though 8 shots? :v: Talking about an overkill
I would've done probably the same, maybe not fatally shot the assailant. Better safe than sorry

Yeah, I agree with better safe than sorry, but eight shots?
And it's interesting that if you shoot someone below the knee, you can't be charged with attempted murder.
Did he look like Simon Pegg running a marathon?
I KEED.
Poor guy and the kids and so forth.
the jogger's retaliation is disgusting, i can't believe that shit is tolerated. panic or no panic, a punch does not justify being shot, let alone shot and killed. the jogger should face murder charges, not even just manslaughter.
more and more reasons people should never carry guns.
one guy who overreacted but still was within law is a reason why nobody should carry a gun?
i though moderators were supposed to have more common sense than most of the people here.
But warning shots are illegal, even for self defense

As said, I don't live in the US, I didn't know that.
You can't fire into the ground, either. Ricochet, man.
I wouldn't have fired into the ground. You fire up, where there is no-one.

The bullet still has to come down, sometime, doesn't it?

Dumbfuck in carnate. That and, I have made this argument MANY times to these same stupid comments, not allowing people to carry guns will only stop Law Abiding Larry. Criminal Carl will still get a gun from Black Market Billy, and possibly shoot and kill poor, defenseless Law Abiding Larry. If Larry were allowed to carry a gun, he would've had a fighting chance against Carl. Not allowing things is only for those who follow the laws, not the dark side where they can still get banned things.
P.S. Your avatar does NOT reinforce your point.

'I know that he thought my brother had a gun,' said Dianela Gonzalez, Mustelier's sister.
'But I mean, it was eight shots fired. How do you shoot someone eight times in self-defence? That makes no sense.'
What an idiot. If anything, firing 8 times helps his case as it shows he was scared and acting in self defence.

This article is exactly why people should have the right to carry weapons(guns included).
This man was attacked. A punch can be a prelude to a much larger conflict, possibly resulting in being mugged and ending up in the hospital for broken bones, a punctured lung, etc.
Lets not forget the mental impact of being attacked. I know an attack victim that suffers through night terrors where they just wake up screaming, crying. It's called PTSD. All from being attacked and unable to defend themselves. Being helpless in those kinds of moments can fuck with your mind. It's not pretty, at all.
I say, to the many cunts on this forum. Have you ever been attacked, humiliated, and sent to the doctor? No? I have. And I wish I had a weapon at that time, and make that person my pain 3 times over. Time has healed the physical wounds, but I'm wiser than before. I now carry a knife at all times, sometimes 2, or 3, and I am content with using it in case my life is once again in someone elses hands.
I applaud this man who defended himself, who made a stand, and proved to the rest of the world that no one fucks with him when he has provoked no one. May that little shit who attacked him rot in hell, if there is one.

Not quite the way to go, but fighting back is ALWAYS a good plan. None of this "tell a teacher" bullshit.

I know it's not the way to go, from an ethical standpoint. But after the attack I endured, I don't care about the person who attacks me. They are in no position of mercy. None.

What if a dingo tries to eat your baby?

Would it be better if he ran 100 yards away, pulled out a rifle and used that instead?

Dumb moderator =/= intelligent resoning
Or he could have gave warning, gauged the reaction, and if the assailant didnt back off then he could have fired.
If the kid had actually intended to harm him then the first punch would have brought him down. He would not be in any condition to draw and fire a weapon. This just sounds like a pissant little punk who wanted to show off to his buddies by scaring some random guy, if it wasn't you'd be hearing a story about how a jogger was beaten to death.
You're making the assumption that the punk had the capability of actually brining him down with one punch. Can everyone do that?
Additionally, how much time do you think you have to "gauge the reaction?" Real life isn't all slow motion. The whole incident from the throw of the punch to the last shot being fired probably took about 8 - seconds. People can be killed from attackers in much less time than that.

My reaction.
Kids are dumb, it should only teach other kids to not be such douche bags.
I would've fired once to scare them shitless. No need to empty the whole pistol on someone.
Panic's a bitch.
