Gives the world a person to blame and a reason to spend huge amounts of money on expensive military hardware.
And there's ALWAYS been one since recorded history.
the US, Canada and Germany voted against
Sucking America's dick, as usual. The Israel posturing is one of the factors that kept us off the Security Council.
Before the vote, the US said it would stop its funding to Unesco if the Palestinians' bid was accepted.
Two decades before to be exact. :v:
And there's ALWAYS been one since recorded history.
eh [editline]31st October 2011[/editline] depends on your definition I suppose
U... UNATCO?
That's the first thing I thought when I saw the title.
Fun fact- the USA has the highest number of Jewish people in it's population outside of Israel. ( btw Canada is the third highest number outside Israel.) About the same number of Jewish people live in the USA as Israel, roughly 5 or 6 million in each country, and they play a pretty big part in our culture, and politics. So, that's probably why the US is the most pro-Israel of the Western nations (And why Canada voted no as well). Jewish people also play a big part in the Democratic caucus, so that's why I think Obama is appealing to them. I'm guessing and hoping the US is just bluffing when they threaten to cut funding, veto, etc... Just trying to educate people.
Where's the list of countries that voted?
Sweden voted no, which doesn't surprise me because the government doesn't seem to have a problem ignoring human rights...
I'm guessing and hoping the US is just bluffing when they threaten to cut funding
Nope. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-15527534
wow america
The US is acting like a toddler kicking and screaming for not getting any candy. It's an unbelievably immature decision to cut funding to an international organisation working for peace and development over a dispute like this. This won't change anything except the organisation's ability to reach its goals, and apparently the US doesn't want to work with global development if Palestine is getting a vote in the decision making. Unbelievable.
America; The retarded downs' patient sitting in the corner of the sandbox, throwing shit around while screaming.
America; The retarded downs' patient sitting in the corner of the sandbox, throwing shit around while screaming.
No that's Israel, America is the older brother that will defend him no matter what.
Sucking America's dick, as usual. The Israel posturing is one of the factors that kept us off the Security Council.
Harper is in charge. What did you expect?
America; The retarded downs' patient sitting in the corner of the sandbox, throwing shit around while screaming.
I think they are also fearful that if Palestine is granted UN membership it will have access to the International Criminal Court as if it were an actual country and could bring war crimes and other cases against Israel.
I think they are also fearful that if Palestine is granted UN membership it will have access to the International Criminal Court as if it were an actual country and could bring war crimes and other cases against Israel.
I thought anyone could do that, without being a member of the ICC. Or even a country for that matter.
I think they are also fearful that if Palestine is granted UN membership it will have access to the International Criminal Court as if it were an actual country and could bring war crimes and other cases against Israel.
Too bad the ICC doesn't really lead to much in our world.
My hope is this is just our government acting on legislation, and that Obama will pull some executive order out of his ass and just put the funding back on the table.
My hope is this is just our government acting on legislation, and that Obama will pull some executive order out of his ass and just put the funding back on the table.
Going by his recent lame speech about talks being the way to Peace, I doubt it. Merrka fuck yeah
I heard the US government has stopped funding/supporting UNESCO or something. True? Edit: I can't just believe it with the amount of idiocy and two facedness that would take from a nation.
I heard the US government has stopped funding/supporting UNESCO or something. True? Edit: I can't just believe it with the amount of idiocy and two facedness that would take from a nation.
It's america you're talking about.
From BBC:
Ms Nuland called the Unesco move "regrettable" and "premature", but said that while continued US funding was impossible, the administration wanted to remain an active member of Unesco.
nope Get out America
$70m is chump change for a lot of countries. Some other country should step up and cover the costs.
Eat a dick Israel & America, about a damn time Palestinians get their place. Things can only get better for them from now on.
The UK, Canada, Germany and the US abstained from the vote, so they did not cast a vote. The UK specifically made no real difference in their inaction.
Not surprised about Germany, they suck Israel's circumcised cock because of that guilt trip.
Sweden voted no, which doesn't surprise me because the government doesn't seem to have a problem ignoring human rights...
To be honest I was pretty surprised by it, seeing as most Swedes are for an independent Palestine.
Does anyone even remember who the fuck is in control of Congress right now? And the fact that they want even more control of our country to screw others more. Not all of America is at fault, just the side that seems more intent to screw everyone over. I can be wrong, but I figured this would be Republicans doing as they don't care about human rights that much. That and our president can't get shit done with them casting down every good thing he has planned...
What the hell.
kinda reminds me of the China/Taiwan situation
From BBC: nope Get out America
They are membership dues so I agree with you to be honest. If they don't pay their fees they shouldn't be allowed to be a member.
if you want to get mad at someone for palestine's trouble with this issue.....blame AIPAC.
