That's not Geoff.
The awards are.
The awards are.
you mean an industry awards show is going to have advertisements in it by the industry?
I would have never expected that!
it's an artsy fartsy game 2 parents made in memory of their child who was lost to cancer. high christian themes.
Yes.
I hate the fact that they don't even give racing its own category.
Nevertheless, Horizon 3 totally deserved that award. It's not like it was up against any real competition, but still.
I fucking need that Mark V tankputer
Shitty year? What? This year's been one of the best years for games in quite a while.
I'd like to respond to these comments by saying that this year wasn't great.
We've had many good games, a couple great games, but as far as I know we haven't had any breath-taking/incredible games. Games like The Witcher 3.
At least this year for pretty good for indie games and multiplayer games; but I'm still very sour about Mafia 3 being a disappointment, and Mankind Divided being no better than it was hoped for, but not as special as Human Revolution.

Uncharted 4 was a breathtaking game. Just because this wasn't the best year in gaming history doesn't mean it still wasn't a fantastic year for gaming. This is also the year we got our first generation of consumer VR hardware, which will be an important milestone.
Did Kojima finally get his award?

What about Doom? What about Hitman? What about XCOM 2? What about Uncharted 4? What about Titanfall 2? Witcher 3 alone isn't enough to make last year some kind of second coming of video game jesus.

They're all good or great but not breath-taking in my opinion. Nothing revolutionary here.

I fucking loved Uncharted 4 and even had to defend it against angry FPers who were trying to pretend it's not that great, but I think that it's not revolutionary either for the whole of the game industry.
It's definitely an inspiration for adventure games, but it didn't do much outside of that (influence-wise, I mean).

Holy shit that speech was moving
overwatch revolutionized the multiplayer fps genre, it was stale as shit up to this point.
[editline]2nd December 2016[/editline]
And I don't think we have had this many great games in recent year.
Overwatch didn't revolutionize anything. It wasn't the first hero shooter, it wasn't the first objective shooter. Nothing it did was original or revolutionary, it just did what it did in a solid, marketable package with the monolith of Blizzard behind it.
It didn't innovate, but it had enough of an impact revolutionize the genre.
Same as Uncharted 4 in my opinion. It didn't invent anything but it was a breath of fresh air and it has a bunch of good ideas put together.
[editline]2nd December 2016[/editline]
Probably same with Doom, haven't played it though.
the witcher 3 didn't innovate though..
I think the sheer size of the game and its omnipresent attention to detail was a revolution in itself. There just aren't many games you could compare it with.
I think the sheer size of the game and its omnipresent attention to detail was a revolution in itself. There just aren't many games you could compare it with.
and its even more hilarious cause these aren't innovations
w3 didn't innovate at all, it didn't introduce industry breaking optimization technologies, it didn't utilize insane shader techniques, it didn't try to reinvent the gaming
it's just a video game that is insanely well done, something we can easily compare to other devs who fail or keep repeating the same mistakes - while the history of the witcher franchise is a constant development, learning from mistakes, actually properly developing a product with actual care and actual effort
not to say that other game sare terrible and such, but as of right now, if you allow yourself to describe a game as flawless, w3 wins without any competition

No it wasn't, it didn't innovate or revolutionize anything, it was just really big because it was made by a huge team with basically infinite money.
