"I guess my family will never buy an apple product again" -That one crazy aunt you have, you know the one
Not surprised :v:
That might explain the #bendgate
We need to know this why
you must be really sheltered
Uh, how? Because I think being gay shouldn't be a big deal anymore? It's (for the most part) a norm now; not taboo.

So that's why new iPhones bend [sp]they are not straight[/sp]
it's important for the cause of gay marriage, but it's not important that he's gays I'm gay and I'd say "So what" as well because so what if he's gay? it does have significance however, because it is another reason for people to become progay. And that's important. Gay's can point to a CEO who makes big time money and go "Yes well look at him, look at the position he is, he is a reason why you shouldn't care about gays being married." as an argument to defend themselves. No one should care about his homosexuality. Everyone who cares about homosexuality should care about what he represents.
you must be really sheltered
If I was sheltered away from everything I wouldn't be trans.
If I was sheltered away from everything I wouldn't be trans.
I have noticed you are happy when someone comes out as trans and how inspiring it is. Then a gay person does it. "Who cares about that?" It's hypocritical as fuck. Both groups need more positive representation, it doesn't just stop at some arbitrary point you made up.

Its pretty much at the level were gays where back in the 70s. Now it's not even remotely as bad. Give it about about another 20 years and being gay won't even be attention grabbing anymore and the hate towards trans people will gradually die down to where gays are right now.
At least you can marry in all 50 states once you've legally changed gender.
True, but then you're talking about really expensive surgery. Then there's also the issue with those who wish to keep their genitalia. Quite a mess.
At least you can marry in all 50 states once you've legally changed gender.
some states will not let you, or have weird and unnecessary rules to do so
True, but then you're talking about really expensive surgery. Then there's also the issue with those who wish to keep their genitalia. Quite a mess.
It's not easy for either, I just wanted to kind of show that off but I probably came off too strongly;

But it's a seriously stupid way of thinking.
Trans is still taboo though. Its pretty much at the level were gays where back in the 70s. Now it's not even remotely as bad. I know it is, believe me. However I find it absolutely ridiculous to think people shouldn't care that someone came out as gay. Okay, being gay is rapidly becoming more accepted. But the key part is that it's becoming more accepted, it's not there yet. Questioning why it's still reported on is absurd considering people in high places still are anti-gay, and it's illegal in some countries. To think it's at the point where it's not news when a high profile person comes out is ridiculous.
you must be really sheltered
Depends where you're from. In some places coming out is really easy from what I've heard, for example pretty sure nobody cares about that kind of shit here.
Okay? Is being gay still that big of a deal it still has to be reported upon? Guys, did you hear? Jon Stewart is straight! Fucking crazy, right?
It is a big deal because many people out there still experience some form of prejudice due to their sexual orientation.
Now watch as homophobes will not buy Apple products thinking it will turn them homosexual.
You mean they don't ?
Okay? Is being gay still that big of a deal it still has to be reported upon? Guys, did you hear? Jon Stewart is straight! Fucking crazy, right?
The more famous people who come out as gay and have it publicised (whether or not they actively seek publication), the more normalised it becomes (it's undeniable that generally speaking we as a culture look to media and media figures to set our standard of what is normal/acceptable) and therefore the more accepting society becomes of homo/bi/a/whatever-sexuality - and that's important in what is still a significantly homophobic world
To all the people who are saying this isn't a big deal are just acting stupid. You know just as well as I do that a celebrity coming out is an important thing for a shitload of reasons.

the fact that lgbt people are persecuted pretty heavily, even in the united states. having a powerful person like the ceo of a gigantic company like apple a member of an oppressed minority shows that even someone in a position of wealth and status might be gay and it won't affect that they can attain that. it sends a message to every young person in that minority group
i honestly don't give a shit if apple ceo is gay or straight or bi, i really don't care... all I know if apple products sucks and are very overpriced... to the point where people who decided to steal someone's credit card will most likey want to by one of apple 600 dollars tablets.
I wonder, why is a situation like this so sensitive? Personally it doesn't change my opinion about Apple if one of their employees is gay, bi or anything else. I mean, three teachers at my school are gay, and I've never noticed it in the two years I have been here. I only found out about five months ago, and asked myself 'why should it matter'? Not jumping to conclusions here, but this matter puzzled me for a long while now.
