Oculus: Rift will come to Mac if Apple “ever releases a good computer”

As if the firepro d700 was made for this anyway. That's like the air force complaining to boeing that they won't use 747s as fighter jets until boeing makes them work as such. Totally different purposes
Should have added for gaming. Just look at Steam Hardware Survey
Percentage is going down, but overall amount of steam users is going UP.
Basically - 0.91% from 3 million players will be bigger than 1.5% from two million.
Mac computers are inherently bad. Apple has shot themselves in the foot time and again and pro users are steadily moving away from that shit (finally)
I've always been vocal that macs are shit nowadays--in the age of programs that work across multiple platforms this is doubly so.
Besides stupid hardware configurations (there were plenty of macbooks that were only offering 4GB somewhat recently) Apple also has a stupid operating system that makes basic applications break over minor incremental OS updates.
They have also done extremely stupid upgrade paths and screwed over tens of thousands of users with pointless, redundant hardware changes.
Want to fork out a heap of money for a unibody aluminum boat anchor? Want to pay a fortune for a black vacuum cleaner? Be my guest. Just don't cry when people don't want to support such a shitty platform.
Talking about resale value in 2016 when it comes to computers? Its not a car or a house its a friggin computer.
PS: Ever want to keep your laptop running with the lid closed? You can't on a mac unless you download extra 3rd party software. Basic shit.

None of those arguments even made any sense - Why do you have such hatred the Macbook, you need to stop wasting time being angry.
Running 8GB ram there buddy and even when they offered 4GB ram only the Mac was still extremely snappy - And the Operating System? It's the most stable one i've used and not a single thing has been broken even through several updates so i don't see where that is coming from, i use my Macbook a lot during work at my IT section. The hardware? Don't see whats the problem it runs what it always has managed to run. Be more specific instead of just "claiming this and that" Be specific!
Resale is important because a lot of students use this and by having such a good resale value on the mac you can sell it and you are basically 50% on your way to a new mac or if you want a Windows PC again you can afford it just by selling your used mac. And the lid thing doesn't even matter, takes maximum 2 seconds for it to start up again after closing it and if it bothers you you get the 3rd party software, no stress.
And where did the crying thing come from? Any person competent with computers knows the Oculus wouldn't have worked with the Mac even if it was supported due to hardware limitations so is that just an insult you threw in there even though it missed everyone in the thread?
Like you just try to nitpick and stand there being angry for no reason what so ever.

Like I'm closing the lid now.
It uses even less then 2 seconds if even 1 - Even when it goes to sleep mode its up in like 3 seconds.
Are you for real? A Mac Pro is fucking €3,500. I could build a PC for €500 that will do everything a regular consumer will need for the next 5 years, then I could do it again for the same price. If the PC you go to as an example of as being 'good' costs as much as a used car you're doing something very wrong. My PC has better specs than that and it cost me just over €1,000.
I see a lotta this shit saying "i built x half the price of [mac computer]" bullshit and honestly sometimes i have doubts
my windows PC goes alright, is a great gaming computer and renderer but when it comes to intensive video editing, my mac holds up well, needless to say sometimes it can be laggy but that's bc i sometimes run it above the native resolution
Mac's have a higher build quality, last you a long time and you get a great deal of apple support, it's just the accessories that are fucking overpriced
That's how apple really makes its money, they sell fragile chargers and other shit so you fork out money every so often to replace them

4GB of ram on a mac is "snappy"? I don't think you actually understand the purpose of RAM.
And where did the crying thing come from? You're the one in here defending macs on this thread.

1. pro users are staying, ive got a MBP 2015 and it's just fine, and most people have the 15" model whereas ive got the 13"
2. MacBooks are made to different specifications, the standard pro model will get you 8gb of ram for ~$1800 AUD) with a great processor + graphics card but a crummy 128gb hard drive so you upgrade that mother fucker. MacBook air's, the standard macbooks etc are pretty much aimed at uni students wanting a longer lasting computer, people with a lot of money or someone who just wants a nicely built laptop.
I agree, 4GB in this age is fucking dumb but unless your rendering video clips, you don't really need much. Apple doesn't include 4gb of ram with the macbook pro's anymore for this reason
2a. This programme breaking thing has never happened to me, i have no idea what your talking about. Any errors on the mac are as easy to fix as windows errors
3. i dont understand this, you mean software upgrades or hardware, and how has it screwed over people
4. MacBooks and Mac Pro are designed to be opened and fiddled with, you don't have to settle with what you get with say an iPhone, you can upgrade your RAM and your storage. It is tricky now that the newer models are harder to get into but it's not impossible
5. yeah and its an expensive computer that can be reselled for close to it's original price if you want to as long as you clean it with due care, you can resell a shitty $700 HP laptop if you want to. I sold my Acer shit box $800 computer for $500
6. Yeah it sucks it's not a native function but what's wrong with 3rd party? Would you be happier if apple just closed the OS off like they do for iOS, your arguments dont make much sense

They do not have higher build quality. They literally just use other companies components for everything.
Even the Apple Retina displays that people try to tell me are the best out there aren't even manufactured by Apple.
Apple hasn't been a technology company for many, many years. It is a marketing company.

Lemme guess you're one of those people that think LACIE hard drives are amazing, even though its just a shitty alumnium case over a joe blow harddrive. Nevermind the 200000% markup.

so does Samsung, HP, Acer and all those - you open up any computer and you'll see a few in house parts but then parts from other companies
compare a $2000 windows laptop to a $2000 Apple laptop, i have and the windows laptop always look like it came out of some deranged plastic factory whereas apple has a very nice build to it, give credit when it's due tho, apple knows design
I don't see why this is even worthy of discussion. The top of the line Mac pro doesn't even (or does so just barely) reach the recommended spec, so obviously there is no VR gaming market on the Mac side of things. Doesn't mean Macs are "bad", they're just no good for this purpose.

Not even gonna bother replying to your other post due to the stupidity.
However - You come up with terrible arguments, make up scenarios and you now started assuming this and that like a child throwing a fit. There is no reason to argue with you, you're just stubborn and just feel like hating on it so much because it makes you feel good.
But sorry you have to accept it's a quality machine and even how much shit you try to spout it won't matter in the long run.
Glad you have no chance in hell to get hired by any companies with a Tech Divison in Scandinavia with that narrow sighted mindset of yours.

I love the build quality / "quality machine" argument. Like your computer is going to sit in an art gallery or museum.
Do you know what my first computer was after I ditched macs? I went to the garbage skip in my street and there was a PC case inside. I took it out, fixed the BIOS battery and deleted a bunch of obscure hardcore german porn from whoever owned it previously and it lasted me something like 5 years with no issues.
For those that can't be bothered to look at the OP's source's source:
Have... have you guys ever heard of this thing called a "Mac Pro"
Here are the specs:
Not only that, but it has a damn good wireless card, it's Energy Star 6, it supports up to three 5K displays or 6 thunderbolt retina displays, and it looks like a trash can (dur hur because it's trash).
This computer will last you many years. Maybe not if you use it for gaming, but if you're literally anyone else, and you have a lot of ca$h monay, this is perfect. Sure, it's really damn expensive, but it's at least a pretty good computer.
Also, in response to Oculus: I'll buy your goggles if you either lower the price or make something that isn't a gimmick.
[editline]5th March 2016[/editline]
Oh and I don't blame them for not supporting Macs, being that no one uses them for gaming. While OSX is great for gaming in some ways, programming games for it is a bitch. I get that. But calling Apple computers inherently bad is false.
for £3000? what a terrible, terrible waste. those specs are barely good enough for basic 3d work. i can almost certainly guarantee that nobody in their right mind owns one of these.

You're comparing only basic specs. You don't count things like ability to work with multi-core calculations, r\w speeds of graphics card...
And I have to give Apple credit, they know how to extract the maximum power from their hardware (due to having a limited hardware choices, to be blunt), so Windows machine and similar-specced Apple machine can't be compared.

No.
One of those is a power mac G5 which is from when Apple used IBM processors--they aren't even worth $5 because no modern operating system will run on them and they have some proprietary graphics slot from memory.
The intel version has to be specially flashed IIRC and in any case it hasn't been manufactured for several years so the CPU wouldn't match up with the graphics card.
To put it simply: they are both unibody aluminum fashionable boat anchors and little else. Because you can't just install a new motherboard the otherwise nice cases are pretty much useless unless you're into hardcore modding.

I believe so, but you still had to a custom flash (from memory, it has been a while).
And keep in mind even if you had a mac from back then you'd still be running a processor which is outdated.

Depends on what studio does. I am yet to see a music studio that uses Windows machines, but had seen a plenty of graphics/3d studios which use upgradeable DIY PC, but just because they're able to get hardware parts on a big discount.
And not one of them used linux.
god damn I don't think I've ever seen anyone so mad over other people choosing to buy a particular computer.

flashing the card isn't required for it to work, it's only for the bootscreen. the card works fine stock, all that happens is until the desktop/login screen, you have a black screen.
my 2008 mac pro has a stock hd7850 that has no trouble working.
the newer mac designs imo suck. they should have stuck to the cheesegrater design.
arguing about what is better is pretty pointless. They have different pros and cons.
OSX has waay better ASIO support than windows does. is very stable and doesn't have as steep learning curve like alot of linux distros. Also the UI is consistent unlike windows and linux stuff
Linux doesn't really have as wide selection of production software as windows and OSX yet is incredibly flexible and stable if you know what you are doing. someone actually managed to install the thing on a fridge.
Almost everyone makes software for windows, it's cheap and it's everywhere. stability isn't too great, my laptop goes for about 2 weeks before different software stops working. rebooting the computer sorts it out. i don't like the direction windows 10 is going in though.
It really boils down to what you want out of a computer. there's no one size fits all.
