It's funny how you mock an individual example that nobody used in order to support an individual example. [editline]12th January 2018[/editline] Honestly, why do you feel the need to attach more words to it? It was bigoted. Why isn't that enough? (Xenophobic means you fear or dislike people from other countries in general, not a specific country.)
Are all you have left here only technicalities? it seems to me when people are reduced to using technicalities in an argument, they can't do anything about the root of it. Trump is a racist piece of shit, and he's shown xenophobia towards anybody who doesn't come from a primarily white or european country. See also: build the wall, make mexico pay for it, shitholes, retweeting anti-Muslim shit with no basis in fact, not sending in their best, and so on.
This is comically pedantic.
Pedantry is the only defense he has left. That's fine though - it was always his first defense to begin with.
It's funny you think I need to mock said individual example when it does a fair job of mocking and supporting itself.
Here's an article talking about the issue with a little more nuance than you seem able to muster: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/17/us/politics/trump-blacks-african-americans-girlfriend-charlottesville.html [editline]12th January 2018[/editline]
Why are you so invested in claiming Trump isn't racist or xenophobic when he has a long running history of bigotry against people of other races? This is comically pedantic.
Why are you so invested in getting me to say the words racist and xenophobic when I've already said it's bigoted?
Here's an article talking about the issue with a little more nuance than you seem able to muster: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/17/us/politics/trump-blacks-african-americans-girlfriend-charlottesville.html [editline]12th January 2018[/editline] Why are you so invested in getting me to say the words racist and xenophobic when I've already said it's bigoted?
From your 'nuanced article':
“Just because you’re a nationalist and you’re white doesn’t make you a white nationalist,” said Katrina Pierson, an African-American who was a spokeswoman for Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign.
Speaks for itself. E: And before you go all superpedant on me, I'm fully aware of her 'clarifying followup'. It nonetheless demonstrates the exact disconnect - and is, besides, coming directly from said campaign. There's also points of that article which support my statement in there too but I'm sure you want me to ignore them as well. Further, most of the 'defense' is less 'he isn't' and is more 'let's stop talking about this issue'.
From your 'nuanced article': Speaks for itself.
Wait, are you disagreeing with her? What? You think it's impossible to be a nationalist without being a 'white nationalist' if you're skin color is white?
Wait, are you disagreeing with her? What? You think it's impossible to be a nationalist without being a white nationalist if you're skin color is white?
I think it's possible that if you're white, nationalist, and have xenophobia and are a bigot that you're probably a white nationalist. And, even if you aren't, you'd nonetheless saddle up right beside them when it comes to views.
NBC has just broken another story of racism from Trump https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/trump-s-history-breaking-decorum-remarks-race-ethnicity-n837181
A career intelligence analyst who is an expert in hostage policy stood before President Donald Trump in the Oval Office last fall to brief him on the impending release of a family long held in Pakistan under uncertain circumstances. It was her first time meeting the president, and when she was done briefing, he had a question for her. "Where are you from?" the president asked, according to two officials with direct knowledge of the exchange. New York, she replied. Trump was unsatisfied and asked again, the officials said. Referring to the president's hometown, she offered that she, too, was from Manhattan. But that's not what the president was after. He wanted to know where "your people" are from, according to the officials, who spoke under condition of anonymity due to the nature of the internal discussions. After the analyst revealed that her parents are Korean, Trump turned to an adviser in the room and seemed to suggest her ethnicity should determine her career path, asking why the "pretty Korean lady" isn't negotiating with North Korea on his administration's behalf, the officials said.
Very similar to the time he asked a black reporter to set up a meeting for him with the Congressional Black Caucus

She's being literally defined by Trump by her sexual features, her ethnic background, and her ethnic features. "What Un needs isn't a competent political person to salve over our problems - what he needs is a great set of Korean Tits! With tits all is forgiven because all Un cares about is tits!" He's more looking at her like she's a show horse to just be trotted around Un and less like she's a political operative who might be working on the US' behalf.
Why are you so invested in getting me to say the words racist and xenophobic when I've already said it's bigoted?
Because you claim he's not racist or xenophobic when he has a long history of actions that would get anyone else called those things. If you already think it's bigoted, why would you combat people calling him a racist? Either you're just insufferably technical or you think that being called a racist is worse than being called a bigot, which would then beg the question as to why you're trying to defend Trump from being called a racist.

You thought it was 'either/or' -- but in fact it is 'and'.
honestly wouldn't surprise me if he did say that. the "no really where are you from" comment is a "nicer" way of saying "you don't look like my preconceived notion of what a person from that area looks like so you must be from somewhere else" if you're asian american you're bound to get that question at least once in your life
New Yorker cover (image)
Hell of a typo though: "Jan 22 2018". E: Oh, I didn't know they made these things that far in advance. It is actually the Jan 22 cover.
Hell of a typo though: "Jan 22 2018". E: Oh, I didn't know they made these things that far in advance. It is actually the Jan 22 cover.
Joke's on them, Trump will probably have turned his presidency around and have record-high approvals by then
The real issue here is that he's implying that these people are somehow taking the badness with them, even after being vetted. It's undeniably racism.
New Yorker cover [t]https://i.imgur.com/cB9SavW.jpg[/t]
Wow, they're really not subtle, huh? :v:

So it looks like, right now, we have two Republican senators saying they don't recall Trump saying "these specific comments", one Democrat senator saying that "not one of [the comments in the press] have been inaccurate", another Democrat senator vaguely expressing disapproval of "comments by the President", Trump personally denying he said "take them out" or anything derogatory, and the White House not officially denying anything. They were also thinking about replacing Pompeo with Cotton for CIA director as recently as November. David Perdue is probably Trump's closest friend in the Senate, and got his cousin appointed Sec. of Agriculture. It doesn't surprise me that sycophants would try to cover for Trump. Note they also said that they "do not recall", which isn't a denial of anything. It's mealymouthed lawyer bullshit. They could have come out and said "Trump didn't say that" or something similar, but they didn't. They're pulling a Jeff Sessions essentially.
The real issue here is that he's implying that these people are somehow taking the badness with them, even after being vetted. It's undeniably racism.
Not only that, he's saying that where you were born should inform your ability to even enter the country. Not merit. Not expertise or skill. Not family connections. If you're from one of these "shithole countries," you don't deserve to be in America, period. Guess which countries aren't shit, according to Trump? Oh - the overwhelmingly white Europe. Trump cited Norway as a good country. But if a Muslim child of Arab descent, born and raised in Norway for his entire life, wanted to come to the US and met every qualification for naturalized citizenship, Trump wouldn't be okay with that. And if a white and wealthy South African entrepreneur wanted to come to America, like Elon Musk, Trump would be almost definitely be okay with that. Trump is using nationality as a dogwhistle for race. The only countries that aren't shitholes are European, hence white. Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, was born and raised in London - yet Trump was more than happy to attack him. But he's from one of the good countries, right? Nope, because he's not white, so he doesn't count as one of the good ones. It's transparent and disgusting racism. Trump would welcome an influx of Western Russian models from Moscow, but he'd probably be angry if they were the chinky ones from Vladivostok. Pathetic.
One bright morning in January of 2013, a man was traveling by car to Washington, D.C. to attend the second inauguration of President Barack Obama. An enthusiastic Democrat, he was looking forward to meeting up with some of the friends he had made while volunteering for Obama's re-election campaign, with whom he could catch up and chat about the meltdown of the Republican Party, and the implications that Obama's re-election had for the future of the country. He sensed that America had made a long-term decision last November, and that it had chosen a bold, progressive future. Never did he suspect that he would be driven off the road by a sudden, blinding flash of white light. As he climbed from his car, having swerved into a ditch on a deserted road in the middle of nowhere, he saw before him a stranger performing a bizarre, unrecognisable pose - his face buried into the bent crook of his slanted arm, while the other arm was outstretched in parallel. As the man approached the stranger, he lifted his face from the crook of his arm, revealing a visage that the man had only previously encountered through a mirror. "Don't share Pepe memes," he exclaimed. "Those memes brought the Nazis back. The prostitutes in Moscow, they pissed on Obama's bed. It might be World War 3. You wouldn't understand." The stranger's eyes were wide, his face gaunt and unshaven. The man was lost for words. "I can't explain, there's no time... Take this. It will all make sense." The stranger handed the man a small, folded piece of paper. Before the man had a chance to open it, the stranger turned away and began walking down the road away from the man. Then he was sprinting. A blinding flash scorched the man's eyes and when his vision returned, the stranger had vanished. The man looked down at the paper which he had been handed. He took a deep breath, and began to unfold it. It was a printout of a BBC News article, although the majority of the text was smudged beyond all legibility. The only parts which the man could make out were the dateline - January 12, 2018 - and the first paragraph.
The organisation representing African countries has demanded that US President Donald Trump apologise after he reportedly called nations on the continent "shitholes".
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-42670715
More to the point, the image the US currently has in countries like Norway could very well be the reason why Trump isn't seeing more of such immigrants...
I've heard there are some who do come here, likely because of a few reasons. 1) They come here (New Mexico) specifically because land is dirt-fuckin'-cheap. They come here, work for a dairy for a few years (lots of money to be made there), then apply for citizenship and start their own small dairy. 2) After that, they get a 7-year period tax-free. In an industry that makes a lot of money, especially around here. I personally think it's ridiculous, because here we don't have a lot of water, and the aquifer directly beneath us is shrinking by the year (I've heard 100 feet in 20 years or so), and dairies require a LOT of water, if not directly, then to support the alfalfa farms that supply the dairies with feed.
