An elderly Illinois couple has something to be thankful for after a repo man who took their car had a change of heart and helped them get it paid off.
Illini Asset Recovery co-owner Jim Ford tells KTRK-TV that after repossessing the Buick from Stan and Pat Kippling, he pulled over to call the bank in order to see if he could pay it off for the couple.
Change of heart? The repo man is just doing the leg work of the repossession. Repo men aren't evil.
Awesome guy.
I'm sorry, that's nice and all, but you're letting elderly people continue to drive. I pray before I get in my car every day, in the hopes that some celestial being finds favor in me; and keeps me from getting T-boned by Doris and Ruth in their beige Buick Lesabre, while on their way to BINGO night.

Elderly people =/= Bad drivers
Elderly people =/= Bad drivers
statistically they're pretty poor drivers actually

but yeah you're still more likely to get t-boned by Brett in his riced out civic than Doris

They're pretty bad man, they're definitely not the worst like teens and those just getting out of their early 20's, but they certainly aren't the best. They do pretty good up until age 70, which is when things start to go south pretty quickly.

Yeah dude shit is getting real here in Maryland with the elderly drivers. They drive like 30 under the speed limit on the highway. Scary shit.
Elderly people =/= Bad drivers
More often than not they are. People who drive past their 70s are an absolute danger. I got rear ended by a woman who had a stroke at the wheel, and she still kept spinning her tires after the crash, she was 76

What is it with old people driving giant Buick and Mercury cars.
What is it with old people driving giant Buick and Mercury cars.
I know, right? Fucking ugliest god damn cars and they get shit gas mileage and have zero power.
I think those giant boat cars make them feel safe, and they have a pretty comfortable ride. That way the old people won't even feel it when they run someone else over.
Honestly though elderly drivers are pretty terrifying sometimes.
The other day I saw a little old lady texting while speeding on the highway
The trifecta of terror

They're comfortable, protective because of their size and market, and at least in Mercury's case durable. Easy to drive, controls are familiar because the scheme hasn't changed in 100+ years, list goes on.

Their GoFundMe is still up, and any additional funds raised are going to help the couple get ahead of the curve on their medical bills, as well as other things. As of writing they're at $ 12,530. What a great thanksgiving.

The Marauder and the GNX would like a word with you

Mercury has nice cars though.
The Grand Marquis, Marauder, and Sable all look good for fancier Fords. Makes me wish they were still being made.

The ride quality, cheapness(Remember most of them are borderline broke and can't afford new cars), ease of servicing, and the fact that they probably bought it brand new in the 1990s.
old people behind the wheel is horrifying. once watched an 80+ year old man driving a brand new corvette and spun out due to oversteer and too much power.
there's so many old people driving these things that its horrifying when they want to punch the gas but cant handle it:
Snip-O
Hey, Don't worrier about it as self driving cars begin to come into the market that problem will decline just as teenage drivers wrapping themselves around tree's will.

According to the chart that's just barely.

My grandfather is 75 years old and still just about the best driver I know, becaue he's been doing it all his life and keeping fit.
I'd bet my ass he'd beat any young driving enthusiast on a track without breaking a sweat
