Sorry Sony, you had it coming.
They really, REALLY did not deserve this. This looks like a third party attacked after Anon stopped, to push the blame on them. Anon may be retarded, but they wouldn't do something that could hurt their own like this. This is just reckless theft for the money.
Good, they deserve it. Maybe this day will go down as the day a small group took down a large corporation.
The group did it for cynical reasons anyways.
E3's gonna be fun this year. Imagine the Sony Press Conference - full of reporters that have had their details compromised.
that is a fucking hilarious situation
Sony has been an excellent developer for a number of platforms for decades. Shame they would go bust because of this. Edit: Not only Sony Computer Entertainment alone would be affected ; I think all of Sony Group's affiliates would be troubled as well wouldn't it.
In all honesty, I want to like Sony. Really, I do. But shit like this just makes it really really hard. They've been making poor decisions with the PS3 since day one. They bash motion controls and then make a Wii rip-off that looks even cheesier then Nintendo's. They make their console cost the most. They charge for their online play...On top of that, their fanbase is comprised of spoiled screaming 13-year olds with easily offended egos. (cough) Sorry, I just gotta bring up this song again. I hope sony doesnt start using irritating over protective security systems from now on because of this.

(cough)
The PS3 was a bad business decision, largely due to the lack of profit per unit, but it is a great system in itself. Shame they never actually bothered to keep it secure enough, they did try, but not hard enough it seems :smith:
As long as I get my NGP..... And my privacy back!
Personally, I've never liked Sony due to their long track record of fucking over their customers, my hate for them beginning when they put rootkits in their music cd's that fucked over people's computers when installed and when getting uninstalled. I believe they deserve every negative effect that's coming at them.

People don't deserve to have their houses robbed if they don't lock their doors. In the same sense, Sony didn't deserve this. You guys don't seem to know what the word deserve means. It's just dumb that they didn't have increased security knowing thieves exist.
Holy fuck; I'm happy I never bought anything on PSN
This is a pretty bad blow for Sony.
Why is this good? You angsty teens are okay with letting people lose their jobs because of something the CEO's do?

If you have shit security, and fuck your customers repeatedly, it's only your fault when everyone's information is stolen. They failed to live up to the standards we expected them too, and now thousands upon thousands of people's information is floating out there. This isn't a matter of comparing one person leaving their front door open in their neighborhood, it's the sheer magnitude of the theft due to Sony's carelessness. Carelessness of this size should most certainly be punished.
This may be enough to drive them bankrupt... Maybe.
Nah, their company is HUGE making TVs, laptops, cameras, etc. but still, this is HILARIOUS
Why is this good? You angsty teens are okay with letting people lose their jobs because of something the CEO's do?
Those people don't deserve to lose their jobs, I don't want them to lose their jobs either. But once again, it is Sony's fault for being so careless causing people to lose their jobs. The more bad reputation the better. (And of course all of this is my opinion, yours may differ. Results may vary.)
Sony didn't deserve really ALL of this. I mean, i'd already would like to link my Portal 2 PS3 version to steam.
This wouldn't of happened if they didn't go after Geohot & others like they did.
I doubt this is relevant to that, I find it hard to believe the guy(s) who did this did it for Linux on PS3 I think they just wanted credit card info
sony. umad?
People don't deserve to have their houses robbed if they don't lock their doors. In the same sense, Sony didn't deserve this. Sony then opens the house money vaults (Just for examples sakes) and leaves the car keys on the table. Then they lock the front door and go away. Now a burglar comes along, breaks in and finds all this stuff just lying there unprotected and runs off with it with no way to catch him. The owners are pissed and Sony gets sued.
This may be enough to drive them bankrupt... Maybe.
Nope, Sony is a 800 billion dollar company. It will hurt them but it won't make them go bankrupt.
Why is everyone saying this is a good thing? Thousands of people will lose their jobs.
Oh well. I like sony, I wouldn't be a gamer if it wasn't for my PS1, but how do you fuck up this bad when you have that vast of an amount of money to spend towards keeping shit secure?
Why is everyone saying this is a good thing? Thousands of people will lose their jobs.
It's more of a dynamic win-lose situation. If Sony was to have to fire many people, or they went bankrupt, the workers are the ones being screwed. They certainly don't deserve to lose their jobs, but Sony certainly deserves to lose all the money they're going to.
They're going to be sued to hell and back. Perhaps now they'll consider how they're going to treat their customers in the future, since it's pretty much the only thing they care about. Sony's gross is also considerably higher than 24 billion.
I feel sorry for the average PS3 owner. I know people need to be more careful with their details. But a £300-400 console made by a massive company sounds, and should be trustable. I mean most of these people will be people will be super casual gamers who've bought a few things with their card. I don't feel sorry for Sony though.
Losing this much money could be the end for Sony.
Wrong. Losing this much money plus losing everyone's trust could be the end for Sony. Well, actually, nobody in the US knows how to not buy shit from terrible companies, so still no. Sony will remain intact. In America. :patriot:
Wow, what a gigantic fuck up.
This wouldn't of happened if they didn't go after Geohot & others like they did.
If they would of listen to Geohot's advice about the PSN security this wouldn't have happened either. But that's asking too much from a public corporation.
