Why are people coming forward saying this is the worst thing to ever happen to them and that their card is in great danger! So scared!

If it bothers you that much!
Sony really didn't deserve any of this.
I'd also like a source where it says they stored everything in plain text, because if they did then that's really damn stupid.
They really, REALLY did not deserve this. This looks like a third party attacked after Anon stopped, to push the blame on them. Anon may be retarded, but they wouldn't do something that could hurt their own like this. This is just reckless theft for the money.
No, they really REALLY do deserve punishment. I don't think anyone gives a fuck about the Geohot nonsense, people are pissed because Sony sat on this information for days and broke just about every law imaginable doing so.

When everything is sent and received in plain text, then it's safe to assume they were stored in plain text as well.

Because we should not be having to do this bullshit for their incompetence
I would really like to play my Red Dead Redemption on online again.

Woah woah woah. Back the fuck up a second. I never said they don't deserve punishment, but they don't deserve to be slandered for this as much as they have been, they didn't deserve this attack, and from what it looks like they didn't incite this attack themselves. Only the attacks from Anon were meant to take a shot at Sony. This looks like it was for the money using exploits found, not to attack Sony and make them look bad, just for the money.
People don't deserve to have their houses robbed if they don't lock their doors. In the same sense, Sony didn't deserve this. You guys don't seem to know what the word deserve means.
It's just dumb that they didn't have increased security knowing thieves exist.
No it's more like leaving your valuables out in the open, not in a safe or anything, having someone nearly break in - and still leaving your doors unlocked. They had already revealed they stored everything in plain text months ago - it should of been obvious to do something about it, but they decided to be lazy.

You have quality posts.
I mean that seriously. I enjoy reading your posts.
"They deserve it", "got what was coming to them"
What about the people who used and enjoyed their services? What about the people who's info was stolen? What about the people who have (apparently) had funds removed from their accounts? What of the people who work there and their families who had nothing to do with security? What of the companies attempting to generate revenue from the platform?
Sony deserved something for their inexcusable attitude to security but whoever did this took it too far and all blame should be directed squarely at them. This incident's going to cause unwanted change to a lot of peoples lives, most of whom had nothing to to with the way Sony stored their users data.
In case anyone didn't notice, Sony's total equity (net worth) is only $31 billion dollars, not trillions (which is measured in YEN).

Many thanks, you to seem to be keeping a fairly level head in this. It creates a better discussion than we had earlier in the year where apparently the hackers could do no wrong in the majorities eyes.
Good thing I don't have a credit card. And I changed my password on both paypal and Gmail.
ITT, people thinks the only thing sony makes is PS3

I hope you guys know that even though this will get better security for sony, alot of jobs at sony will be lost.

Pretty sure most people are saying that Sony deserves to be punished for storing sensitive data in plain text and sitting on the announcement that there was a break-in or whatever. Though I do agree that anybody who thinks Sony deserves this just because they're Sony, is a complete moron.
This wouldn't of happened if they didn't go after Geohot & others like they did.
this is the most retarded idea, i dont know where people got it. whoever is the cracker in this, they didnt do it for some moral crusade. they did it for money, and nothing else. if it was some righteously indignant web warrior, they wouldn't have stolen a dime.
Sony was basically walking around South Africa in the nude with a giant sign that said "RAPE ME"
You're all assholes.

Not a shitty analogy at all.

incompetent lazy programmers should be sacked
Why is this good? You angsty teens are okay with letting people lose their jobs because of something the CEO's do?
The CEO probably wasn't even close to involved in the process of figuring out how to store the data back when they were building the PSN.
incompetent lazy programmers should be sacked
A business is running out of money after a huge attack. They need to lose some employees to cover the cost. Are they just going to sack the programmers in charge of security? (if they even have any considering how poor it was)
Whatever Sony did may be wrong, but they certainly don't deserve to lose 24 fucking billion dollars.
Are you people insane?

It's called a subjective and highly opinionated topic.
In my opinion, Sony has been pulling stupid shit for a long time and it's finally catching up to them.
They deserve it.
In my opinion.
How the fuck is this Sony's fault? Those "hacker" mother fuckers are breaking the law, are you people fucking retarded? That's like saying "I should kill someone because they stole a book from my house."
You people have to stop thinking with this hero/vigilante image you're giving the people doing this to Sony, they were doing the right thing trying to deal with people fucking around with their products.

In my opinion, Sony don't deserve overly offensive action against them, they were attacked after all, their network had been safe for nearly 4 or 5 years now. They weren't expecting this kind of attack at all. But the customers do deserve compensation for this gross negligence. The amount it could cost them is staggering though.

I don't think people are saying they deserve it because of geohot
more like because they didn't take enough security measures and people are actually being affected by this

It's sony's fault because they couldn't keep their customers important information secure.
This is all.
I feel really bad for sony tho. They are in deep shit already, and now they got a long spiky spear up their butts. I can't really say a bad thing about them tho - but they really fucked up with the lack of proper security.
