Air Force dumped remains of more troops in landfill than originally acknowledged
Guess you didn't read the whole article. The family's consented to a respectful and honorable disposal of the ashes. The familys didn't even get notified about the landfill.
I don't care what you say or some bullshit excuses about saving money, it is fucked up to toss anyone's ashes in a landfill even if it is partial. People like you are the reason this shit happens because "You don't see a problem with it." What are landfills used for? TRASH, putting partial remains of a HUMAN BEING, a SERVICEMAN, in a landfill is basically saying their trash.
When you die we will just dump you in a landfill...have some decency.
I would be pissed as hell to find out this happened to my family member, no matter if they served or not. If a regular crematory/funeral home did this they would lose their license/business.
Looks like you misread my post, I said "and the families consented (albeit most don't probably consider a dump respectable)" implying they didn't know this was happening.
And I admit I don't see a problem with it. My remains are trash. What purpose do my ashes serve? The person that was once alive isn't preserved in some way through those ashes. They are preserved in the memory and feats they made, not by the physical matter they leave behind.

Trying to call me out as a hypocrite? I give no shit what is done with my body. I'll try and donate it to science. If someone wants to strap my dead body to car and ram it into a wall at 45mph so be it. If someone just dumps my body in a landfill, that's fine too.

And please, don't try and pin the blame for this situation on me, even if you were just exaggerating. I genuinely believe in my opinion, but I don't go around telling people I will give them a proper burial and then throw them into a meat grinder. What the airforce has done is wrong because they lied about what they did, and I did fail to clarify that I think it's wrong to do so (lying); but I see no problem with just throwing bodies into a dump.
that's horrible
please elaborate
Well, you don't see them eating each other until there isn't any food left... at all. Like, a mother bear with a cub will keep the cub around, but if there isn't any food to be found it eats the cub because it can always have another.
However, we haven't gotten anywhere near this stage. So eating the dead is just as fucking retarded as it always was, and right up until the last twinkie disappears into some fat woman's jowels it will keep being a retarded idea.
Respect? There was no respect involved in getting blown into pieces or killed in some obscene manner.
So it's ok to not respect fallen soldiers then?

What irony? What's ironic of getting killed in war and being dumped in a landfill?

Either that or you are a master of irony and have successfully double-bluffed me.

Because, the persons corpse we're throwing in a landfill is braver than any of us here. They joined their countries military and fought and died for it. They deserve more then to be shoved into a landfill. Their relatives let the airforce handle it respectfully, throwing the ashes of a person who died in the line of duty into a landfill is not a respectable burial.

No respect in the field, no respect in death. How is that ironic?
No sense in letting good food go to waste.
Why is there this stigma around eating human flesh? Its food just like everything else right?
Your post is now my new TF2 spray.
Whoever told the people to just dump them in a landfill instead of honoring their families wishes is a total asshole.
that can't be morally right.
I saw one Disagree rating. I thought "Rubs10".
It was Rubs10
I have strong feelings about this. I think I might be dreaming while in a coma. I'm not in a coma.

Because 99% of people wouldn't agree with their remains being cannibalized. Unwilling cannibalism is wrong, especially when you have more than enough food already.

I have massive respect for the troops, but it's still just a heap of dead matter. What's more important is focusing efforts on the living veterans and troops than on the dead ones. It's a tragedy for any serviceman to die, but their body is just a dead body. Pay your respects through memory. Again, it is 100% wrong to defend the Airforce's action in this case because they lied to the families. I'm not arguing that, I'm arguing that people take the remains of the dead too seriously. Perhaps that's too big of a tangent for the scope of this thread.
Did everyone really "Fight and die for their country"? Some of these guys could of been mechanics or something.
I don't think the human body is worth...well, anything after it's dead, to be honest. Yes, the Air Force shouldn't have lied, but they did nothing wrong in the actual dumping. If you want to drag me out into the streets, piss and shit on my dead body after I die, I DON'T GIVE A SHIT. It's a hunk of carbon. Disrespecting a body is NOT the same as disrespecting a human.
Yeah and we call ourselves the country that thinks about our servicemen how funny, if you wanted cheap you could just have a practice mission where a pilot would learn how to drop a package off a C130, instead of a package just drop the ashes of the servicemen.
Anyways this is fucked up, we should treat our dead servicemen with more respect than that.

Close enough to the end of the year nominate this one for 2012.

Each service member served to their capacity and did their jobs which allowed others to do theirs. Just because they're not all pilots or billy badasses that killed 20 insurgents with his bare hands or with a JDAM they still served for their country and contributed their skills and services. An airforce mechanic or an airfield perimeter guard serves the same capacity as a pilot.

The only problem is that the body represents a human in every physical shape. Families keep remains of their loved ones because that is all they have left of them and it is the closest thing that could actually remind them of their loved one.

You're a fucking idiot. It doesn't matter whether you were a mechanic or not. Its their job to maintain the vehicles used to protect the soldiers. Everyone in one way or another is defending the lives of the other members of the service and their country. So yes, they did fight and die for their country.
This is terrible
It's a corpse. A hunk of rotting meat. Why do people care about dead bodies so much
How about this?
We kill you, dismember you, burn your "hunk of rotting meat" and throw you in a fucking landfill.
Have some empathy.
Because the dead body used to be a living person.
and the belt I'm wearing used to be a living animal, doesn't mean I couldn't throw it away if I didn't want it.

I would be totally alright with that if I was already dead before this whole process started

Show some respect to the families of dead soldiers asshole
this isn't even about the god damned bodies

I don't know man, I think if you get killed in the service your mother might want to render honor to your body or to yourself in a more... honorable way.
You might not care, but your family members probably would.
"He's dead and now his body is scattered all over a landfill!"
Paying respect after death is one of the things that makes us human. It's going to be a sad day when we stop respecting the dead and their bodies.
