I'm sorry, why is this getting so much support? Aren't we always pouncing on politicians who try to pass laws that are obviously in violation of the Constitution? Why is this an exception? So what, WBC is a terrible organization (though they don't practice what they preach, they just do what they do so that they can sue people who attack/harass them), but why is it suddenly okay to strip them of their rights as American citizens?
I don't support what WBC does. I really don't. I hate them just as much as the rest of you. But this is ridiculous. I honestly hope this gets overturned by the Supreme Court.

For those who aren't aware, the first amendment grants all American citizens the right to freedom of "speech, press, assembly, religion, and petition".
When it comes to normal citizens starting to impede their right to petition, ground rules have to be set some where or people will die. I'm honestly surprised someone hasn't opened fire on the entire Westboro church yet.

I don't think it's crazy to allow people to believe in whatever they want to believe.
Not exactly. Public means arranged by the state. Not necessarily open to everyone. There's a ton of state-arranged shit that pale blobs like you and i can't and really wouldn't attend.
when does public mean arranged by the state? I always thought public meant, you know, public. Either way, it's on public property, so they WBC can still protest.

Oh, I see. You aren't limiting their rights, you're protecting them from counter-protesters. Here's a better idea: punish the people who try and kill them. Just because you don't like what someone says, doesn't mean you have the right to shoot them.

Well, there's public as in "public accommodation" but there's public as in "state owned". We use both meaning here, because the WBC is on public land while the funeral is public because it's open-aired.
300 feet is not enough honestly. I say they cant be within eye sight of the grieving families. Its fucked up enough to have to bury your son or daughter, its even more fucked up to have to see a bunch of idiotic douchebags protesting your childs funeral. Good first step but jesus fuck can we just say they are a cult and raid their home or hell idk anything man, I understand the 1st amendment, but fuck that with just a quarter of the shit they pull. Hell id pitch in money to have them sent to an island to live in peace with their own whacked out thoughts for the rest of their lives, just get rid of them already, give them a salary, put em on an island and set up fake cameras and tell them its a reality tv show. Let them die off naturally.... im okay with that.

What are you talking about? Do you even know what moral high ground is?
moral high ground time
That's implying King Tiger has morals.

are you implying he doesn't?

They are irrelevant. The whole point is that saying I was taking the moral high ground in that instance was clearly wrong because I wasn't actually taking the moral high ground.

I know. But I'm wondering if he equates caring about constitutional freedoms with immorality.
