custom map support would be a good addition too
she asian you've never seen an asian before? racist fuck
I'm asian and she definitely looks weird probably just the angle though.
"The first game was a lot about running away from things," he said. "And, even though you want to have sections with that, you also want Faith... she's a powerful character and you want her to take control. You'll see a little bit more of that in this game.
Hmm, not sure how I feel about that.
Hoping for reworked melee combat
will they add new colors
Word through the grapevine is that Purple and Pink will make their way into the game.
Hmm, not sure how I feel about that.
i hope they don't mean the game is going to be 20% jumping over shit and 80% shooting dudes
I bet in addition to being open world it'll always be an always-online multiplayer game and there'll be some gamemode you can play on just a tablet, because all the next-gen titles seem to be doing that at the moment.
Alright a quick argument against the open world. Mirrors Edge worked really well because you could generally run around and not stop for a good time because all of the levels were custom made to allow this. I don't think they can make it as fluid if they have to make an entire open city. Hopefully I am wrong.
I just know I am going to spend a lot of gameplay time just running around on top of buildings.
But open world -> Streets -> People? If I can Punch people in the throat and run away, i'm in!
I always thought a dystopic social MMO with action elements, set in the Mirror's Edge universe would be fantastic, simply based on the locations/ style. Suppose it could be a sort of city-based, above-ground Neocron.
I see people complaining about it and how it could turn boring and stuff. Guys, a few years ago everyone was complaining about invisible walls and how some day every game would let us explore its world with no limit, now that it is possible, we want invisible walls back?
The first ME did it pretty well at least with falling off the edge of buildings as barriers. I like the idea of it being open though, it opens up so many different routes for freerunning through missions.
But open world -> Streets -> People? If I can Punch people in the throat and run away, i'm in!
I kinda doubt they will make walking on the streets possible. It would mean doubling the map size, making civilian AI believable, adding tons of new props and textures, and polishing it enough so that it feels like a living world. I think they will do the Spiderman 1 game approach, where you can run on the rooftops and look down on the street, but you'll probably never be given the opportunity to walk on it or look at it in detail.
I hope they make falling off skyscrappers as mind-fucking terrifying as it was on the first game.
Non linear freerunning/parkour game? And it's actually Mirrors Edge 2? On next gen!? My poor heart.
And PC is quoted as a launch platform IIRC. Though, I'd take that with a pinch of salt. I think if it's origin exclusive, I'd actually consider finally getting round to using it. I've been put off by it for a number of reasons, though I'm mainly just protesting the lack of EA games on Steam.
I hope they make falling off skyscrappers as mind-fucking terrifying as it was on the first game.
If this has Oculus Rift support, it will be even more terrifying. Most of the game will probably either be on the rooftops or underground, can't forget about those storm drain levels.
Maybe they could do "open world" in the metroidvania sense, where technically its an open world but you have set routes/etc to get to places instead of just literally being able to get anywhere I.E. to get to X building you have to follow a segment of rooftop sequences that are linear, kind of like following a road to get to where you want to go, but there might be multiple paths along that road you can branch off to start heading to other locations. Imagine an open world racing game for example like Forza Horizon, except instead of streets it's rooftops and such. Rather than literally being an "open world" with the ability to get anywhere and do anything from any location

An open world is possible, but a fully detailed and 'connected' environment is going to take a lot of work. Still, here's to hoping they have the immense manpower and funding required to pull it off successfully. Another thing I wonder is how they're gonna do Law Enforcement this time around. In ME it was easy, the encounters were all predetermined and scripted, how will they go about it this time? Maybe they can have a system where the cops come after us, enter the building we're on (or headed to if they're smart), and after 20 seconds (lets assume the CPD have special access to express elevators) they come through one of the doors on the top floor. Most of the time you'll be one step ahead by the time they get up there, just like the Runners are supposed to be. Actually, I'm pretty much expecting them to take the GTA approach, having linear missions in an open world. So like mentioned above, on-mission we'll still get those Law Enforcement encounters.
Hopefully this wont turn out to be the same way it was with Casey hudson.
Mirror's Edge 2? Open-world? Prequel? Consider me hyped. :v:
As long as we have generally the same controls and some solid urbex opportunities it should be good. Less forced gunplay too. Or at least make it better if they do.
I see people complaining about it and how it could turn boring and stuff. Guys, a few years ago everyone was complaining about invisible walls and how some day every game would let us explore its world with no limit, now that it is possible, we want invisible walls back?
context mate nobody's saying they want invisible walls back; they're saying that they felt that the free-running element of the first game was successful largely due to the fact that the areas were linear. To set up an open world with the same density of free-running opportunities is going to be a challenge for the developers, and it sounds like some people would rather have a fast-paced and well structured linear game world than a sloppy and badly paced open game world. As a side note, you can make a perfectly good linear game without invisible walls (Valve)
I've been thinking on the whole open world thing and this popped into my mind: [t]http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/tess/bighex.gif[/t] Imagine the black lines as linear rooftop/underground/street level free running routes and the white spaces as inaccessible places such as towers and wide-open areas like parks and whatnot. In order to get from A to B the player will have to run along these routes. Whilst this may make the player seem confined it will still provide a fairly decent illusion of "total world freedom" and since these routes will be linear(ish) they can be designed to prevent the player losing fluidity when running along them. Obviously the city won't be arranged in a hexagon pattern but you get the idea. Just a thought.
IMO Mirror's Edge 2 will be to Mirror's Edge 1 what Portal 2 was to Portal 1; a game that builds on a flawed yet interesting experimental title, and perfects it by adding what the first game was missing in terms of content and polish.
I disagree with you on what Portal 2 was (mainly because Portal 1 was a game with such incredible focus that you may as well go ahead and say it was artistically perfect), but that sounds like a fine analogy.
I spent the whole of Mirror's Edge wanting to go down to street level with the civilians I don't even know why really
I spent the whole of Mirror's Edge wanting to go down to street level with the civilians I don't even know why really
Aside from cops and distant civilians, Mirror's Edge felt so fucking alone. Although, some argue that was the point, I guess. Still, it was weird being in this ultra modern city and running through office buildings and apartments and not seeing a single resident or worker.

Like, no one had any time for breaks.

Hope they keep the E-Surance like loading cutscenes.
