Russia could absorb Crimea in mere weeks if referendum passes

I'm surprised at the reaction in this thread. It seems possible to me that propaganda might have led us astray from the truth. Granted, I'm not sure to begin with who to side with in this kind of thing.

I'd supporting the Ukrainians but it's pretty hard to have an honest referendum when armed Russians are breathing in your neck.

Crimeans have shown that they at the very least don't fear them. Some people take pictures, others yell at them point blank. Most don't seem to even give a damn. My opinion, this particular factor won't really influence referendum in any way.

No

What Russia is doing is still awful, but I feel like the alternative is potential war between NATO and Russia... I'd prefer the one with less shooting, in this case.
If it happens peacefully, if the vote is legit, if there's no ill will towards Ukrainians afterwards, and if Russia doesn't use it as an excuse to annex more land, I see no problem with it.
Russia still needs smacked around for acting like such a dick this whole time, though, regardless of how they get Crimea.
There's a huge problem and they are going to be crushed by economic sanctions if they do
this is crazy that ukraine isnt going to do anything while russia absorb crimea with a nukes .. this is exactly what i heard from my russian uncle that they were gonna nuke crimea , personally if i was there i would steal a tank and shoot putan for this shit .. but im not there and thats not my responsibility but i hope my uncle is ok

Look, while we understand how you feel, and while we also know that Czar Putin and Boyar Yanukovych are both assholes, and while we hope that your uncle is safe, I think hoping to shoot Czar Putin, or anybody else for that matter, is going overboard. And what you posted legitly sounds like it came from the tinfoil crowd.
Afaik a lot of Russian people are against all this invading too. They must be pretty annoyed because they have to take shit from the world for their government's decisions, I feel for them.
Isn't the referendum illegal in Ukraine law though because it is dealing with national territory? Doesn't that sort of thing require a national vote? Besides, isn't Crimea completely occupied by Russia atm?
Sounds like a whole lota bullshit.
Doesn't matter since from the day of occupation Crimea has been de facto Russian territory. The referendum just seeks to justify it post-fact, there is no way popular opinion has any sway in that matter.
I like how they've come out of closet saying the "independence vote" won't result in any independence.

I kind of doubt it. There doesn't seem to be any significant sanctions coming, and they've been mostly blasted by USA. I'd say that's mostly considered being a good thing, interpreted as USA fearing Russia's growing influence.
Russia has a simple plan for world domination.
It will take a large number of Russians and move them into a province of a neighboring country and then have them vote to join Russia.
By such a process, Russia can continue growing and adding more land, despite the fact that extra land only brings more misery to the inhabitants of Russia.

For the Russian government "Russia" is where russians live. Doesn't matter how many or where.
I wish this was over already. My mother is really scared of a world war breaking out, and she won't listen to me or anyone else saying such thing won't hapen. Our news being all hype about this 24/7 really doesn't help.
This is because your country is already rallying the Hussars for battle. She fears you will not follow the path of your ancestors and will mark shame upon the honour of the family.

Voter Fraud, what a surprise from Russia.

And than we have Sarah Palin complaining about her neighbors the Buczkowskion's on national TV.
Of course they're Polish but that doesn't matter.

Yeah, euromaidan is totally trustworthy in this question.
Also, these marks look printed imo. I mean, this referendum could be corrupt or not, I'm not saying anything about it, but printing marks is just dumb. Why would they even need to do this if the majority supports them anyway? And didn't they invite as much foreign observers as they could to assure that there won't be any cheating?

It's a reference sheet attached atop of sealed packages. You guys even trying?

Sure they did. And Kremlin gets to choose who is making the observing. From Finland they invited this guy: Johan Bäckman.
"Bäckman admires Vladmir Putin, crediting all recent successes of Russia to Putin's personality and health."
Finnish source:
"Crimea was transferred to Ukraine in 1956, but this decision was not ratified by Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. Crimea's transfer to Ukraine is illegal, so to return Crimea [to Russia] it suffices to recognize this fact. Thus there is no need for referendum, rather in my opinion Crimea can be returned to Russia as is." - Johan Bäckman
Why settle for high chance of victory when you can have a certain victory?
