2 US Marines on vacation stop a gunman on a Amsterdam-Paris train. 3 wounded in incident

ayyyy
do u think they are gonna get a NAM for it?
pretty great that the only people who were injured by this event were the 2 men who stopped the gun man and another who hurt their hand breaking the glass to activate an alarm.
I see these trains passing by all the time in Rotterdam. Everyone's lucky that folks with the right training were in the right place with the right idea.
It's really not all that important to anyone but military guys. You're all part of the same armed forces. It's the fucking magazine/ clip thing all over again. Nobody fucking cares because you still get the idea across.
We're not talking about some inanimate object like magazines here. We're talking about people, and those "military guys" did a lot to earn their titles. They aren't soldiers. They don't do everything soldiers do. They have their own jobs and specialties, and they're proud of the name that comes with it. Respect that, and call them what they are.
Strike Back in real life!
investigators. According to the early briefings, the gunman was known to French intelligence services and was Moroccan or of Moroccan origin and aged 26.
Another terrorist attack by a Muslim who's Moroccan. Hardly surprising. In most terrorist cases it seems the terrorist is known to authorities but nothing is done about the risk factor of them committing an act of terror, those with high risk factors should be deported as a security risk or should be detained if enough evidence is found, but i am sure many will be against Europe having its own Guantanamo bay to keep them secure so attacks like this will persist.
For those that say Guantanamo bay should be closed, many of those held have returned to terror: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_former_Guantanamo_Bay_detainees_alleged_to_have_returned_to_terrorism#2008_list

You're seem rather invested in letting everybody know how little you care.

Guantanamo bay should be closed because of the human rights violations, not because of the prisoners.

well yeah, obviously. Wouldn't you go back to terror if you were taken prisoner and then tortured?
I agree that the problem should be combated but we seem to do a better job exasperating the problem rather than fixing it.
You're seem rather invested in letting everybody know how little you care.
You seem to care a lot that I apparently don't care :~)
It's not that I don't care, it's that the distinctions is totally fucking unimportant in this case and getting pissed that people are referring to possible marines as "plain old" soldiers is retarded.

Until you've been through what these guys have in order to become marines, don't act like it's not important, because it is. They don't get payed nearly as much as the other branches, and the training is twice as rigorous, but they wanted to be marines, not soldiers or seamen. That's who they are, and they're damn proud of it. Show them some fucking respect.
Oh stop. Both American and British troops have died defending your way of life. Our countries have had some very vital joint operations (hm, maybe, WWII for example?). Your post shows nothing but ignorance and disrespect.
It only takes being told once to understand the difference between Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines, and it's disrespectful to devalue their sacrifice by being too edgy to call them by their correct titles.
If you think this is edgy then fuck. I really dunno what to say. Marshmallow must be dangerous to the touch.
I don't mean disrespect when I say "it doesn't fucking matter", I mean "it doesn't fucking matter" because they weren't serving at that point in time. What they did could be done by any members of the armed forces I'd hope. The distinction is totally unimportant and getting worked up over it looks silly.

No, I won't. You're insulting friends of mine who care a lot about being a part of the branch they picked by saying it doesn't matter. It does to them, and you refuse to simply call them by their name.
Guantanamo bay should be closed because of the human rights violations, not because of the prisoners.
I don't believe he was saying it should be closed because of it's prisoners.
He was saying it needs to be kept open because of them.
No, I won't. You're insulting friends of mine who care a lot about the branch they picked by saying it doesn't matter. It does to them.
I don't even know you or your friends so calm down and stop taking shit personally.
As I said, I'm in no way trying to demean their efforts in their jobs. But their jobs do not mean they have my instant respect. Pretty shitty people hold the title of "Marine", "Seal", "Soldier", "Airman". It's a job after all. Big sacrifices? Sure there's that chance. But it's still their job.
The distinction in this case doesn't even matter because last time I checked the identities of the people weren't even confirmed. Getting royally pissed about people who may not even be what you are getting pissed over is silly.

It's not just like any other job though. You don't just get interviewed, told yes or no, and go. There's months of intense training you have go through to become any of those. Some people can't even make it and end up dropping out, and I'll be honest, I don't know if I'll make it through myself. For the guys and girls that do finish though, it's a sense of serious accomplishment. It's more than just a job to them.

Actually you should care as it takes clips to make a magazine(hence the designation). Its just that people are stupid.

ah woops, I meant to say is that it should be closed because of the human rights violations, not stay opened to keep them there. They could just be moved to another facility instead.
"when the man was loading heavy ammunition in a toilet"
What does this mean?
"when the man was loading heavy ammunition in a toilet"
What does this mean?
I think it means in a lavatory/bathroom, not in the toilet itself.
Guantanamo bay should be closed because of the human rights violations, not because of the prisoners.
OK so where should the remaining detainees go? Didn't think about that did ya? Wherever they go they'll still be under control of the US govt.

I don't see why they couldn't be incarcerated in isolation in a regular prison, why do you need special terrerist prisons where your inmates don't have rights?
American bad asses I say.
I don't see why they couldn't be incarcerated in isolation in a regular prison, why do you need special terrerist prisons where your inmates don't have rights?
You probably won't believe me when I say this but the current conditions that the detainees live under are far better than what they would get from isolation. Something to the tune of Xboxes, TV's, religious accommodations, etc.
OP is wrong, they weren't two marines, it was a national guardsman, an airman, and a civilian.

Guy ran into the restroom to reload his ak.

?
why do you need special terrerist prisons where your inmates don't have rights?
So that they can be tortured and kept without trial of course.

The people who serve care. What other branch can you call yourself? You can't say I'm an Army. or I'm an Air Force. But you can say I'm a Marine
do WE have some better information on whether they were both US soldiers or a US and a British? oh nevermind it was just some random British national
also, what's with all these cod players descending on this thread to try and lecture us about unimportant stuff?

Read my post.
Hey, who wants to see some video of the gunman, and the wounded guys helping each other out immediately after he was subdued?
