I bought my copy of Black ops in store, I prefer physical copies over steam because my internet connection is terrible and i have a bandwidth limit, my local game store is about 95% console games and all the PC games they have are just plain shit, its their own fault that they don't give a shit.
Steam Stores, Steam Stores everywhere.
I called it first, remember.
As long as Steam doesn't turn into Gamestop and they burn Gamestop into the ground I'll be perfectly ok with it.
Say what? I've never bought so many games since I discovered Steam.
I like steam because of:
-discounts
-no cd keys/code manuals
-steam chat/community
-Gamestop's collection of PC games has become absolutely horrid. Theres about half a rack of old and messed up boxes of PC games. But they always have WOW in stock. Yeah....all PC gamers only play WoW forever.
Dislike because:
-Required internet connection. If your connection is off for a weekend, you cant go on steam if you're logged off. I can understand the reason why, but its not like everyone has a fluid connection where they live. or any, at that.

When steam dies, say goodbye to your game keys.

good joke

When steam dies current games won't run on windows2643 anyway
I hope steam releases a special edition of monopoly entitled
Steam Monopoly
The only reason they are complaining is because they provide an inferior service. Steamworks and VAC integration aren't something they should be worried about because it's more-or-less just an easy API for developers to make their games more reliable in the long run.
If they are worried now, what will they do when Portal 2 comes out and Steamworks becomes available on PS3?

I bought fallout 3 sometime ago in stores, and went back repeatedly to get the DLC, which did not include mother ship zeta. Now, if I had been a little bit smarter about my purchase, say, I dunno, waiting a month for GOTY to come out on steam, I could have a digital copy without 3 CDs which I have to dig out every-time I need to reinstall, have mother ship zeta DLC, AND, depending on when I would have chosen to purchase, could probably have purchased it for $20 total. This is a decision I've regretted for several years, and what's worse is that I have been an avid steam user for at least twice the amount of time I've owned the game.
Rate me dumb and bad reading, either or.
You know what would boost retail sales? Frequent specials, like what supermarkets and Steam have.
None of this "every 3 months we'll put all the poor sellers on a table and sell them for $10" nonsense. I mean proper 25% off blah game, this week only.

Rated bad reading for not noticing bad reading has been gone for ages.

Nothing because steamworks =/= steam store
Unless you will be able to buy ps3 games on ps3 steam now.

Valve have said, if steam dies, they will release the unlocked exe's, so basically, if it dies, you are then stuck with just the fully working games, and the ability to make backups, what a shame.
/sarcasm
Steam's pricing is a little funky at times.
Mirror's Edge and TF2 on Steam - $20
Mirror's Edge and TF2 retail - $10
BC2 Steam - $20
BC2 Retail - $40

By BC2 you mean bad company?
It's 50euro for me
Steam has pros and cons. But the company supporting it is more mindless than the zombies in resident evil 5. I love how Gabe said valve was completely against DRM but steam is the biggest form of DRM ever fucking created. I'm surprised steam is this far with its obvious flaws.

Sucks to be you. They much be quite the penny pinchers.
EDIT: You can rate yourself?
The only bad thing about Steam, in my opinion, is the download speeds, but that could be just me. If I buy like, say, Force Unleashed (10GB) on Steam, I have to wait 12958257274 hours while it downloads at 800 kb/s, while I could just go to a store, buy it, get back home, do something else while it installs and then instantly be able to play it.
They offer superior prices and convenience, game stores can't possibly expect to compete with that?
Retail stores are a dying breed. Those wanting hard copies of their games will have to order directly from the publisher in the future.
Except iTunes is pretty bad.
The only thing with steam is that the publishers set the prices so you can see wonky prices EG the euros to dollars thing that goes on right now. Sometimes publishers will make a game cheaper on steam because they would make the same amount of profit anyway

So people are going to record TV shows to get their games?
lol no.

People still buy CDs?
Edit: I'm serious. I know nobody who has bought a CD in the last few years.
To be honest, it wouldn't be too bad if Steam monopolizes the video game game digital delivery platform.
I've never used anything else other than Steam for such purpose anyways.

It will be a long time before hard media completely dies, if it ever does, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see a massive shift toward digital media over the next few years. Hell, I know I prefer digital. I love being able to carry every show, movie, song, and game that I own in a notebook sized package. I'll be even more sold on the idea when the next generation of internet is made common, allowing us to transfer nearly unlimited amounts of data instantly.
All we would need is a screen, a keyboard and mouse, and a wireless router, and every piece of media we own would be instantly streamable from our servers back home. Even video games! Our server could do all the legwork, and transmit the data, and with the ridiculously fast data packages we'll be seeing in the near future, we could access and respond to that data with little-to-no lag or interference.
Wicked sweet.
[/Talking out of my ass, because that stuff sounds wonderful and I want it to happen. Also, robot arms.]
CD/Game/Movie stores won't die out because of Digital Distribution. The retail market will however be reduced and stores will probably need to close to accommodate for this.

Expect to see massive lobbying and maybe a RSAA popping up sometime soon. You know how greedy businesses react when their models get outdated.
