All the digital industry has to do is to move to Sweden. Then the RIAA can't touch them.
This will cause the death of gamestores. No more boxed copies, merchandise or returning games.
I, myself, prefer boxed copies of games. I like to hold something physical in my hand.
Digital distribution of games is killing all gamestores. My local gamestore is probably going to shut down because they don't make enough money.

Sometimes I like box copies. With GTAIV, it comes with a map (like the rest of the GTAs) but with digital you don't get a map. Just little things, I still vastly prefer digital though, if it's not steamworks it wants me to always put a god damn disk in. Doesn't matter if I can bypass it, I'd rather have it on STEAM
So people are going to record TV shows to get their games?
It was meant for Music CD's , try to learn from context.
"People are using a service that's better than mine, NO FAIR"
I use steam for pretty much all of my games, except ones that have a collector's edition that comes with extra stuff. For example, you can't get the art book, platinum chip, etc. with Fallout: New Vegas if you buy it on steam.

Killing a few game stores isn't the same as killing the market. You're right though; a diminishing retail market losing ground to digital distribution will lead to a few retailers shutting. However, as long as there are a few people like you, game boxes will remain available. Possibly not as readily as today, but that's what happens when new technology conquers the old (it's not as easy to find VHS tapes today). Personally I ordered the special edition of Call of Pripyat off Amazon (mmm metal box) - Stuff like that won't go away no matter how dominant Steam becomes.

I laughed hard because it's true.
If game retailers would sell PC games I would buy them. I got sick of walking into gamestop, looking up and down the puny single rack of PC games, and then going up to the counter and asking the clerk if they had the game I was looking for, only to be told that they had copies but because I hadn't pre-ordered it I couldn't have it. Of course in this situation I usually go across the street to fucking target and find the game on an end cap.
In the future I predict the big companies of today will keep expanding into different markets. until one day there are only a handful of super-companies left all competing with each other in every market.
Imagine if any service you can think of was only available from the same company that offers every other service and then there would be no monopolies.

Nope.
In New Zealand
Black Ops on Steam: $90
Black Ops at EB: $150, if not, more.
