• Steam is killing the PC gaming market

So they're OK with microsoft dominating the console market (xbox live etc etc), but not with steam being successful in the PC market? Haha. Next they'll be saying spotify is encroaching on iTunes' sales :haw:
As others have already stated, these retailers are just throwing tantrums over the fact that Steam works and will continue to work. DRM with benefits. These benefits include a robust community system, allowing for matchmaking, large group chats, stat tracking and comparing, etc. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Steam is the future of PC gaming. As for the people who do not have powerful Internet connections, I only wish for the Steam developers to incorporate some kind of external patching system, while still maintaining the difficulty in pirating said patches.
Until retail games have better discounts and offers, I'm sticking with Steam.
There needs to be a monopoly boardgame version of the Online Gamestores.
what you get two sides half of ours is wii peripherals
Well there is also a bargain bin with mixed games. Most PC games as you know come in a cardboard box compared to a console game, but it doesnt make a difference when the whole store is console stuff. The Gamestops here though carry PC accessories like mice, keyboards, headsets, joysticks, and some of them even sell processors, RAM, and GPUs.
Meh I buy most new games from online retail as its often cheaper than directly from steam. I really only use steam for older games on sale or Valves own games.
As convinient as Steam is, the support and refunding for third party games is shite. I'd like to see more games being sold online with keys which can be loaded into steam though. Plus, killing the PC gaming market is wrong, isnt it more of a monopolisation of the PC gaming market?
Why do retailers even care about this? It's not like they make an effort to promote PC games in their physical stores, with the exception of titles like World of Warcraft and The Sims.

Or just second hand experiences.
Itt: Motherfucking GAMESTOP (IE the only major game store chain in the US) complains about a company other than them having a monopoly on games.
I don't get why they want "steam-free copies", people still buy the box with the cd/dvd and the key? (unless you buy via steam ofcourse).
Steam can cancel your account at any time without giving you any reason. When you buy a game package you they can't.
If they cancel your account then you have obviously done something wrong.
maybe if gamestop didn't have such a tiny selection of pc games they would be more successful
"Steam offers a cheap and easy way to play games that is much superior to my method I want Steam to go away waaaaa"
Their deals are cheap, their regular prices are awful expensive (If you live in a part of Europe that isn't UK)
Itt: Motherfucking GAMESTOP (IE the only major game store chain in the US) complains about a company other than them having a monopoly on games.
I trust that you realise that the article was about UK stores:
UK Retailers
Retail Chains: STEAM IS OFFERING A SERVICE THAT IS SUPERIOR TO US IN EVERY WAY. TO COMPETE WITH THEM WE WILL HAVE TO CHANGE. THAT IS WRONG. STEAM SHOULD BE STOPPED. Valve:
I buy from steam because 80% of Game Store workers are idiots who sit there, and begin debates with me regarding why, "YOU SHOULD BUY NEW VEGAS FOR XBOX INSTEAD!" Why would I buy the same game for ten bucks more when my computer can run the game smooth as butter.
I can buy games that are rated 18 when I'm 15 via Steam. Can I do that with Retail stores? Nope.
I can buy games that are rated 18 when I'm 15 via Steam. Can I do that with Retail stores? Nope.
You do know if Valve finds out they will perma disabled your account right?
You do know if Valve finds out they will perma disabled your account right?
Ah but that's the beauty of internet anonymity.
I kinda hope digital distribution doesn't put gamestores out of business some time in the future. One of my goals is to one day open my own store, that'd be sweet.
Steam: You know the game is there, you can even buy the on a Sunday night wait a hour and you have it. Retail: Wait till shop is open, travel at least 8 KM and hope they goddamn have it, enjoy the rain tornado and tsunami while your at it. Travel 8 KM back and install it on your PC whit one of those DVD players I haven't build in my pc (Fucking things are fucking load). Yeah retail is a bit cheaper but fuel for a car or moped isn't, and you could have done more important things than traveling to a store.
I, for one, welcome our new Steam overlords.
Only thing I buy retail copies for is the stuff in the box, like the tech tree poster I got with Civ 5.

I live next to a gamestore. Your point?
Not that I disagree with you, but... I live next to a gamestore. Your point?
Not everyone lives next to a gamestore smartass.
Not that I disagree with you, but... I live next to a gamestore. Your point?
Not everybody lives next to one, or has one in there own village. Heck the one I describe is a game section, that has like ten PC games in stock.
Eh, there's not many PC games in stores around here anyway. It's all console stuff.
Indeed, it kinda sucks IMO. My local gamestation used to have a whole stand of PC games now it only has one end of a stand. Steam is all well and good but the pricing of games on it seems to be a little high compared to buying many of the games retail. If they addressed that, I wouldn't bother trying to buy physical PC games anymore.
U jelly, shops?
