Oh no he stated that he held bigoted views and has since thought about them, what a terrible person read the thread
I read the OP and the thread, and this isn't what I'm primarily concerned with.
Yeah essentially what you're saying is "if you don't toe my line, I'll treat you like you're a malicious cunt" I'm honestly more opposed to what you're implying with that mindset than I am to people just saying bigoted things, we can argue about that. You're trying to argue that shutting down all conversation is actually for the best. It isn't. Like someone said a political view point you don't agree with? Fucking fire them, that's what you're saying. That's what Craigewan was saying. "If you don't agree with me on my political issues, you can't have a job". That's trash. Utter trash. Yeah, I'm not saying he was justified of it, but if you were going through a divorce and a cancer scare, you'd be 100% fine, right? You'd be unaffected by that, right?
I'll treat you like a malicious cunt if you're a malicious cunt. That's a pretty straightforward and sensible way to approach things. You are what you are, and I can't control that. If you choose to be a malicious cunt, that's your choice; it's my choice not to be tolerant of you though if you're acting that way for no good reason. And this has nothing to do with differences of political viewpoints, so stop pretending it is and acting like it's just something that innocent. The man has consistently behaved this way over and over again as, as others have said. If it's not him saying stupid things over social issues, then it's him saying stupid things over environmentalism. If it's not him saying stupid things over environmentalism, then it's him acting like any other spoiled asshole celebrity out there-- over food, over filming, over crew issues, politics, etc. There's nothing to debate here: these are the things he has said, these are the things he has done. And it's hilariously presumptuous of you to imply I wouldn't be calm in that kind of a situation; while I've never been divorced, I've had health scares before. I had a lump removed from my spine on the 15th that turned out to be a cyst, but beforehand, I had blood drawn and tested, had my urine tested, had x-rays done; I didn't know what the fuck I was dealing with. I've had to deal with infections before (multiple staph infections and some stomach/intestinal problems), a couple of which have put me in the hospital. Nevermind me for a moment; there's a fuckton of people out there in the real world in general who have to deal with serious issues like this all the time, who have had it way worse than he has or than I ever have, and they don't behave this way. They also don't usually have this many people flock to support them either. But, guess what, they deal with it like rational adults do: they deal with it, they don't behave like assholes, and that's how simple it is. Myself included. We don't assault people over trivial things, we don't act like spoiled children when our every whim isn't catered to, etc. If you're not trying to justify his behavior, then there's no need for you to talk about it anymore. You shouldn't have felt a need to engage in this conversation at all in the first place.
Don't even pretend you're talking about the person himself and not a strawman you drew up, as I know, factually speaking, you haven't read the article this article is talking about as it is paywalled so to imply you're not making grave assumptions about him is actually straight up a fucking lie.
The original article in question that he wrote in the Sunday Times isn't even my biggest concern. What I've been getting at is that it wouldn't surprise me if he did actually say something like this, considering what other things he's said and done before that do indeed line up with the same kind of bigoted attitude he's had for a while now towards other people (which have been elucidated not only by me, but by others as well; Craig summed it up the best already); he's got this reputation of his in the first place because of the mountain of shit he's said and done before dude, and this, which seems very probably true, would just be another (unsurprising) addition to it. J_Hat already posted a link to his article, and the opening just goes to show what a fantastic start it begins with:
Now that women can vote and homosexual couples can marry, you might imagine that the world’s student activists, trade union leaders and environmentalists would pat themselves on the back and break open a bottle of sustainable elderflower juice to congratulate themselves on a job well done. But no. They have decided that we must now all turn our attention to the plight of people who want to change their name from Stan to Loretta, and fight for the right for men to have babies.
For that matter, I'm going to go ahead and assume you're being a hypocrite here. I doubt you've read it either. Or if you do by chance have access to it, please post what snippets from it that you can that will highlight more about "the person himself", as you put it.
Yeah but I'm not making assumptions about him or what he said. You are. So many words and you said practically nothing. [editline]24th January 2016[/editline] You couldn't even be arsed to read my post where I said I'm not justifying it lol I'm literally just saying don't make assumptions and you wrote an article on why assumptions are great
Clarkson is one of those people who thinks he's an expert at everything because he's an expert at one thing
jesus, imagine being such an intellectually fragile snowflake that you get so upset you stop watching a critically acclaimed show just because of deliberate jabs designed to specifically go against the grain and people such as yourself imagine not taking the jokes lightheartedly and brushing it off like a normal human being and instead throwing a tantrum and becoming just like the caricature the person on the television is making fun of the only reason i was laughing at his jokes was because i knew somewhere people like you are getting offended and shutting off their televisions
What kind of horrific world do you live in where people aren't allowed to get offended and upset at something without being labelled as a wuss and being told that they need to just man up???
words don't matter, actions do. you can have a completely shit opinion like clarkson does, but as long as you don't act upon it to hurt those involved with the opinion who cares.
(72:774) - "The Prophet cursed effeminate men (those men who are in the similitude (assume the manners of women) and those women who assume the manners of men, and he said, 'Turn them out of your houses .'
words don't matter, actions do. you can have a completely shit opinion like clarkson does, but as long as you don't act upon it to hurt those involved with the opinion who cares.
I care. As a trans person, I kinda have the right and reason to care.

barely made it through the first page of this thread so i'm not gonna pretend i know where the argument is at right now but there is 0 excuse for any of the comments outlined in the OP and if you try to defend him in any way for it then yes, you are a transphobe and a bigot and that cannot be argued lol i don't care/i'm not talking about the implications on his career or how this will affect his public image or whatever the fuck, those comments are absolutely disgusting
I care. As a trans person, I kinda have the right and reason to care.
I'm trans too, and i think one persons opinion isn't going to matter. the entire youth is mostly progressive at this point and transgender people are going to be fully accepted in due time just like gays and african americans are now. i dont really see a reason to worry or care about Jeremy's opinions outside of cars because hes been raised at a time where he doesn't know better about that stuff. If he decides to research and change his opinion on it cool whatever but as long as it stays as a opinion it isn't going to hurt anyone.

(This is ignoring the fact it seems like his opinion has been implied to have changed anyways.)
We should definitely continue being surprised when old people hold outdated views on topics just recently making a big turn in society. Its not like he's trying to affect legislation, its just his opinion. So long as he doesnt commit/incite hate crime I dont see an issue. If it matters, of course I disagree with him.

People are reacting to this without even reading his own fucking article.
I’ll be honest. When this issue first began to surface a couple of years ago and we had pop stars such as Sir John running about, talking endlessly about the transgender cause, I did roll my eyes a bit. Because in the immortal words of Reg, from the People’s Front of Judea, “Where’s the foetus going to gestate? You going to keep it in a box? ” As far as I was concerned, men who want to be women were only really to be found on the internet or in the seedier bits of Bangkok. They were called ladyboys, and in my mind they were nothing more than the punchline in a stag night anecdote. I wasn’t alone either. Only recently I was chatting to a doctor about how people can now demand gender reassignment surgery on the NHS and he said, “I get lots of people in my surgery with a Napoleon complex. But I don’t buy them a pointy hat and a French army uniform.” I found that funny. But there’s a distinctly unfunny side to the coin. Just recently some friends of friends were having one of their eight-year-old daughter’s school chums round for a sleepover. As the day approached they received a call from the girl’s parents, who said, “Er, she’s not actually a girl.” She had been born a boy but had insisted from the age of three that she had a girl’s name and wore girls’ clothes and, later, that she went to a girls’ school. And her parents had simply indulged this whim. I was horrified. I wanted to seek them out and explain that they were free to live a lunatic life, washing their armpits with charcoal and liking Jeremy Corbyn’s thoughts on how ballistic nuclear submarines must be built by the comrades and then used as flower pots. But they must not, and I was going to emphasise this with spittle, be allowed to poison the mind of a child. When I was five I wanted to be Alan Whicker, but my parents didn’t buy me a blazer and send me to hospital to have my adenoids sewn up. Other kids wanted to be super army soldiers or astronauts. It’s what kids do: dream impossible dreams. You don’t actually take them seriously. You don’t take them to a hospital when they’re 10 and say, “He wants to be a girl, so can you lop his todger off?” Because what’s going to happen five years later when he’s decided that being a man isn’t so bad after all and he’s in the showers at the rugby club? And there’s more. Only last week we received news from the Daily Mail that at Isle of Wight prison nine inmates have decided they would like to be women and now want the NHS to stump up £100,000 for the necessary procedures. Transgender enthusiasts talked with serious faces about how this demonstrated the scale of the problem and the horror of being a woman trapped not just inside a man’s body, but inside a man’s prison as well. Yes, but hang on just a cotton-picking minute. When I was at school, I announced that I would like to be confirmed as a Christian. This was seen by teachers and my housemaster as a sign that I was growing up, so they happily agreed to my request. And from that day on I was allowed to skip compulsory chapel on a Sunday morning — where you were checked and ticked off on a register — and go instead to the early morning village communion service, where you weren’t. Which meant I didn’t have to go to church at all and could therefore spend all weekend with my girlfriend. Can’t anyone see, I wailed, that this is what’s going on in the Isle of Wight nick? They tell the screws they want to be women, they get a bit of make-up and some breasts to play with and they are then transferred to a women’s prison, where they can spend the rest of their lives being a lesbian. It’s every man’s dream. To try to calm down a bit, I turned to the BBC for guidance, and there I was told there are 650,000 people living in Britain today with some kind of gender “issue”. Well, I just sat there shaking my head, because the simple fact is: there aren’t. We are told that one in 10 of the population are gay, that one in 10 have cancer, that one in 10 support Isis, that one in 10 think Corbyn’s doing a good job, that one in 10 have a criminal record, that one in 10 are living below the poverty line and that one in 10 were born elsewhere, and now we are expected to believe that one in 100 are transgender. Well, if that’s so, it means that — according to my maths — fewer than three in 10 are healthy, straight, honest, British people who don’t want their genitals altered. And that’s obviously rubbish. But then I thought of something. Let’s just say for a moment that one in 1,000 are transgender. Or one in 100,000. Or even that it’s actually just one. Let’s say that there is one person out there who is a woman living in a man’s body, or the other way around. I started to imagine what life might be like for the poor soul. It would be dreadful. Absolutely awful. And all they seem to want to make their life better is a third gender option box on official documents. That’s not really the end of the world for everyone else, is it?
He does say some insensitive stuff but he's not going 'TRANS SHOULD BE IGNORED AND NOT CONSIDERED PEOPLE' From what I udnerstand, his main problems are excessive support at a young age (not necessarily a bad thing but I understand how someone would be uncomfortable with it) and people who could potentially take advantage of support by changing gender to their advantage (if that makes sense) If you actually read the article you can see at the end that his opinion has changed, aswell as the fact that he speaks in past tense for much of it, "As far as I was concerned" He has (and still does) say some retarded shit but he isn't saying that they should all be shot or something like that. It's typical for news articles to pick out all the controversial, insensitive stupid shit in the article and leave out everything else.
The article, that up until now, nobody could read in full, because of a paywall? Thanks for posting it because now everyone can actually read it.
The things I say in the confines of my own home every day are significantly more heinous than anything he says to the media.
Thanks for letting us know how awful a person you are!
The things I say in the confines of my own home every day are significantly more heinous than anything he says to the media.
Oh, my mom gets an earful every day after school when I start up the clan war, let me tell you!!
This is probably one of the most horrendous threads in a while. It's the most LITERAL clickbait shit that's hidden behind a paywall, and in the end, Clarkson states
I don't know what's worse. The fact that people ate this shit up without having read the entire article (which I can't really blame them because it's hidden behind some shitty paywall), and/or the only thing people even bothered to read was either the title of this thread or the article snippet. Or the fact that people were willing to treat him like the next coming of Satan, knowingly that the rest of the article is hidden behind a paywall, and that we weren't receiving the entirely of such. With that last statement- does he REALLY seem that far off to warrant people saying "hope he never gets another job again!!" No. It doesn't. This is fucking ridiculous. Does his justify his narrowed point of view? No. But you know what? He's not that far off of being educated, and informed.
Man, fuck that paywall.
words don't matter, actions do. you can have a completely shit opinion like clarkson does, but as long as you don't act upon it to hurt those involved with the opinion who cares.
Words matter a large, large fuck ton. Especially since they can lead to actions. Transgenderism is still a very caustic topic for some people, and there are definitely some people who will read what Clarkson has to say, go "Finally, someone with some sense!" and feel justified when they glare at that transgendered woman in the store, and have the urge to call them a disgusting shemale.
Thank fucking Christ, I knew the title sounded like horrendous sensationalism. Araknid, you are a saint.
Some of the points made in this thread still stand. However, I do agree that it was nice to see the end of the article because it was behind a paywall, and I feel we shouldn't allow paywall sources from now on.
Honestly I was paying more attention to dumb shit people where posting after a point.
-snip, got my answer-

All of you jumping to conclusions on both sides, go outside. Go to a pub or a place to hang with people and live life. To everyone who gets mad at the above statement, please don't go outside and disconnect yourself from the internet. You provide nothing.
Some of the points made in this thread still stand. However, I do agree that it was nice to see the end of the article because it was behind a paywall, and I feel we shouldn't allow paywall sources from now on.
It wasn't a paywall source, though. It was a site that used a bunch of kneejerk reactions that took bits of the article out of context so they could throw shit on Clarkson. Whether or not he deserves it is a different debate altogether, this is not the first time this has happened. The same thing occurred when someone found a 12 year old outtake from Top Gear where he said nigger.
Edit: If you Google the text from the paywalled article you can probably find a mirror, I shouldn't link it.
