Public figures aren't intended to be dishonest and voice one specific view. It's actually good that he voiced it so that others can easily correct him about it. While there are people who will agree with him, there are also be numerous people who will disagree. There's no huge support in this thread, but a huge amount of disagreement.
Well I agree with you on that part. It's good to have really backwards views shut down
he was banned 4 times, permabanned, and had all the replies to him moved to a separate thread
Thank you to the person who pmed me that post, but I had already found it. Jesus.
Well I agree with you on that part. It's good to have really backwards views shut down
It's better to have backwards views dismantled through debate. Shutting people up does nothing but cement views and foster group think.
what are you even talking about
There is really no room for confusion in my post...?

As shit as that sounds that is exactly how I'm feeling. The idiom, 'Opinions are like assholes' really does seem applicable here.
There is really no room for confusion in my post...?
he wasn't asked about it, he wrote a column for the sunday times
Gender dysmorphia genuinely confuses me. I thought part of the popular LGBT school of thought was that gender was a social construct rather than something natural, in which case, how can somebody be "born" the wrong gender?

Be glad he's allowed to voice his fucking asshole opinions, so that you can know he's a fucking asshole.
Like, doesn't the concept of gender dysmorphia require that gender be a natural phenomenon in order for someone to be born with one that doesn't match their sex?
he wasn't asked about it, he wrote a column for the sunday times
And where's the full column? Because all I see are snippets. The way that the quotes are in the past tense and he says those were his thoughts a few years ago, leads me to believe that what he wrote was spun a certain way for sensationalism.
Yeah, I am not really okay with this.. I can't see any context whereby this is a fair and balanced assessment:
and in my mind they were nothing more than the punchline in a stag night anecdote.
So youths kill themselves because they feel out of place, and that's all for a few drunk men to have a good yarn about hilarious stories of "that one night Bazzo got blown by a tranny" on the night out after 10years of marriage. What a fucking joke.
It's better to have backwards views dismantled through debate. Shutting people up does nothing but cement views and foster group think.
A formal debate only elevates the status of their position as legitimate. When someone is so incredibly wrong in the face of all logic and science of the subject (as it is with gender dysphoria) they have absolutely no ground to stand on. There is no debate, they have no legitimacy, they are utterly wrong at the most basic level. It's exactly like those stupid evolution vs. creationism debates. It's completely incompatible.
Like, doesn't the concept of gender dysmorphia require that gender be a natural phenomenon in order for someone to be born with one that doesn't match their sex?
I think they're generally referring to orientation when they speak of that.

This kind of mindset is backwards and disengenious.
Like, doesn't the concept of gender dysmorphia require that gender be a natural phenomenon in order for someone to be born with one that doesn't match their sex?
Yes.

When things are flushed out through debate it exposes inadequacies.
At one point people would have said the same thing about a contrary opinion to creationism.
Are you saying Jeremy Clarkson knows what he's talking about on the subject?

If you actually want to change minds, you need to engage with contrary viewpoints. All that ignoring this sort of thing will do is cause it to grow.
This is the same man who punched someone over cold food, even if the producer said it's fine (because he wants to keep his job) it's still extremely telling that this is someone who's a complete cunt.
To be honest it's obvious that Clarkson's a twat, doesn't mean he's not entertaining to watch on TV.
Are you saying Jeremy Clarkson knows what he's talking about on the subject?
I am saying in general regardless of topic.
People debate evolution vs creationism all the time. It doesn't make creationism more legitimate, it's makes it less. When things are flushed out through debate it exposes inadequacies.
But people are already either on one team or the other and a "debate" isn't going to sway anybody. It just gives the creationists artificial legitimacy because they can say "look, we're a reasonable position because all these scientists will stand on a podium with us!"
I'm just saying this tendency to try and tear down people who have been out paced by society is needlessly vicious. Progress is winning, why lash out at people who have lived a life with an older set of beliefs? One day you might end up being that bigot, when people half your age are calling you a robophobe or whatever for not wanting to give AI human rights or some shit. Jeremy Clarkson shouldn't lose his funny car man job for being a museum of quaint shit opinions.
because when you're 70 do you really want society giving up on you and patiently waiting for you to finish up your business and die bitter and confused so they can finally move on with their lives? i know i don't want to go down as the geriatric who didn't wanna learn and my children didn't care to teach.
I am saying in general regardless of topic.
I want to know your opinion though. Is Jeremy Clarkson educated on the subject of gender dysphoria?
But people are already either on one team or the other and a "debate" isn't going to sway anybody. It just gives the creationists artificial legitimacy because they can say "look, we're a reasonable position because all these scientists will stand on a podium with us!"
Where did you come to that conclusion because it sounds blatantly false?
But people are already either on one team or the other and a "debate" isn't going to sway anybody. It just gives the creationists artificial legitimacy because they can say "look, we're a reasonable position because all these scientists will stand on a podium with us!"
That just isn't true. If debates didn't change people's minds, then politicians wouldn't bother with them.
Sorry mate, but to me a male saying he identifies as a female changes nothing. You're still XY Chromosomes under everything.
Lmao because there has never been a case of a full born female having the XY chromosomes right guys. Chromosomes are clearly the end all definition of sex and gender
