Origin launches Game Time; battles the "try before you buy" piracy excuse.

I don't see why everybody here is getting down and dirty and grinding up on steam's dick. Monopolies are never good - this is a good solution to a big problem and considering some companies say they don't like porting to PC due to "piracy" they now have even less of a leg to stand on.

Some people have shitty internet connections. Just because it takes me two minutes to download TF2 doesn't mean it works out that way for everyone else.

I think the dumbs are more for your not reading the (updated) rules.
That's the most horrible idea I've ever heard of.
And the same model that game rentals as well as internet / game-cafes / arcades use. I don't see an issue as long as it's optional.
I love when companies actually take care of their past problems you get dips muttering over sour grapes. "they're only doing it so people will like them and buy their stuff again"
no shit, it's like they learned a lesson or care about continuing as a company so they can develop more games
it's funny when people hold such arbitrary grudges against corporations
Using Origins client is like a god send to me, everything runs smoothly and doesn't lag like the big piece of shit steam is.
Steam really needs to and I mean really need to build a new client, Origin is giving Steam a run for its money which never happened before but hopefully Valve steps up
To be honest, I'd much prefer a smaller time if the clock doesn't run when I'm not playing.

welp, the more you know
Gotta get checked up on dem rules

The open beta, however, is.
For instance, I know I can't run BF:H now because I've played the beta and it ran like ass.
In a perfect sense, open beta "shouldn't be representative of final quality of the product", because well, it's an unfinished, unpolished, unoptimized mess for you to test, find out bugs and report them. However, in case with DICE, that is indeed just the other name for a demo, yes.
It shouldn't be like that though.
One problem with Origin.
It has this at the bottom for selecting language:

Problem is that that is the only option.
I want it to be in English, not Norwegian. But there's no option for setting it to anything other than Norwegian. What is the point of even having a list if there's only one option in it?
This has been a problem for everyone since 2009, and there doesn't appear to be any kind of solution.

Also, if Origin suddenly decides that you live in Russia, the store will be changed to Russian. No fucking dispute, you don't get a say. "Learn Russian you bitch".
Steam's biggest edge is it's constant sales, but honestly the annual sales seem to be met with less jubilee each year, because there's constant sales all the time anyway, and a lot of people have all the games they want already. I don't even own many games, and I've got all the big hits I want, leaving only sales with a variety of games that would be neat to have I guess. At least, that's how it feels to me, but maybe that's just in my head, who knows.
It depends on the releases. This sale I was able to get a good couple of games I didn't have yet at extremely cheap prices, either because they were indies released last year or AAA released 2-3 years ago. You just need the game "fauna" to replenish and after about two years you should have a good couple of games released the year before that you don't have yet on sale for extremely cheap.

Little workaround, you could just go to the English site.. Although you're pretty right:
https://www.origin.com/en-gb/store/

That url redirects to the norwegian store lol
I can't change the language there either.
Can someone find me AAA games from 2004 where the demo was the actual full game?
Half-Life 2 wasn't, Unreal Tournament 2004 wasn't, Halo PC wasn't, Doom 3 wasn't, Far Cry wasn't, Painkiller wasn't. I can't think of any that were, if you want to find timed trials you have to go back to the 90s and even then it was by far the exception rather than the norm.
Being able to play a full game as much as you want for a weekend, even beat the game if you can do it in that timeframe, didn't exist before Steam with its free weekends, and even then being able to choose the game (even if it's from a list) and start on your own schedule after downloading it is a pretty nice improvement.
Those are singleplayer games
Battlefield 2142 had a demo where you could play it as long as you want, but there were no unlocks
Those are singleplayer games

And it was only one map. UT2k4 and Halo PC were also multiplayer, again, with a very limited selection of maps, with just one for Halo PC. Demos, whether multiplayer or singleplayer, have almost always been small sections of the main game that you could play however long you want. I can't think of any games where the demos were the full game for a limited time period, except for MMOs.
I can't understand for the life of me why people are saying 'this was how it worked ten years ago' because that's obviously totally wrong and anyone who was playing games in '04 should know this.

RealArcade did it that way, but not much else, if anyone else did it.

If steam announced this, the thread would already be up to ten pages of praise and slamming Origin and any other service too. We need shit like this, gives Steam and other services a reason to actually improve.

No, that EA went into it trying to get a chunk of that change Valve had been receiving.

Yeah that's the reason I hate origin with burning passion when it comes to comparison between it and Steam. Yeah Steam sells some games that are region-locked in such a way that I can't choose language in them, but it allows me to change its interface language and get vast majority of games in any language I like, and I prefer English every time (mostly because voice-acting is vastly superior to Russian one).
Origin - "fuck you, you're in Russia, play games with subpar translation and terrible voice acting", and it's a huge deal for me, because I'm very dependent on hearing experience as much as visual one. The only game on Origin I played was BF4, and in addition to the trainwreck that game is by itself, horrible voice acting and terrible translation made it just miserable.

You know what's worse? When the only version you can buy is in russian and priced like EU one. Borderlands 2 had that problem for me. Has to ask someone to gift it instead.

Are you kidding me? I tried to like origin I really did. One time I even left it in the tray only for this piece of shit to pull me to the desktop because of some featured shit and crash the game I've been playing (I don't remember what it was but I've lost like 1 hour save because of that).
The interface for downloading updates is terrible. Sometimes when I want to play bf3 it will start downloading an update to bf4 when I'm already started playing. And it's not going to show it in the main window either I have to go to my games and look at each one of them for the download bar. One of the DLCs for bf4 reverts to 63% once it reaches 100% so I can't complete the download. And also, origin is grumpy about resuming download when your internet drops and gets back up, so I'm stuck looking at the download bar for 10 hours now with titanfall.
I start origin only when I'm starting an origin game and I close it the moment I'm done playing. I really hate it.
Yeah, good work talking on the name of an entire portion of the player base.
