bandwagon jokes derailing or sniping a thread has always been bannable :)
Neat, it was discovered in the 1700s. I wonder how much Archeaology has been done on the site, though with the amount of the public that visits it, I doubt much has truly been done.

if it was discovered before in the past it's likely anything of value or interest was cleared, and given it sounds like this farmer left it so open that people were even leaving graffiti (god that's stupid) then the remainder of anything beyond just knowing it exists/the size of the area carved up has DEFINITELY been scoured over or destroyed
It's more about stuff that's left in the dirt, not really stuff just lying around. My gut feeling is that the ground has been too disturbed to find anything, and if anything is found there's a huge chance that it's been disturbed from its original location.

So has discussing moderation within a thread, dai! Fucking wrecked.
Now this is the news I want to see. Bad ass
I'm happy that some awesome history related news has finally shown up.
I was honestly getting tired of that orange guy.

gonna beat u up nerd
looking back at this video I just noticed the stone face on the wall, cool stuff. Wish they were taking this footage with a flashlight or higher ISO though
looking around for more stuff I'm just seeing vague photos of some key bits, would love to see more of the carved out architecture and motifs

I wonder what's up with all the blue stuff, wonder if the place was painted when it was originally in use
In 2012, it was reported that the owners of the caves closed them to people wanting to visit after they found they had been filled with candles, graffiti and rubbish. The entrance to the caves was sealed up in attempt to keep the trespassers at bay.

Disrespectful fuckwits ruin it for everyone else yet again
It's amazing to think how many ancient nooks and crannies are on Earth that we have yet to rediscover.
there's something similar very close to where I live, although not quite as spectacular it was pretty mind blowing when I went because it's literally just under a small town high street and you enter it via a little shop.

The idea of someone carving their names into something so old and historically significant makes my insides feel like they are twisting around in horror.
I could understand the candles and rubbish, that's just being dumb and inconsiderate- but to be so fucking braindead that you could wilfully deface a historical find, What kind of fuckwit does that?

I believe that defacing historical ruins, monuments or other finds should come with a hefty fine and possible jail time.
Vandalizing a park or spraying grafitti on the side of a modern building is forgivable and relatively easy and cheap to fix. But there's no excusing carving your name in to the side of a wall in a man made cavern used by the Knight Templar almost a thousand years ago.
Intentionally vandalizing/defacing items/locations of historical significance should be a felony

It's funny to think people did graffiti even back when these tunnels were in use. There have been carvings found that said "______ was here" and even drawings/engravings of penises that were hundreds of years old

Jesus, man. I hate defacing historical objects, but I don't think causing someone the be a felon and effectively ruining their life is not a fair punishment.
It's a horrible to ruin history like this, and should require a heavy fine, as well as maybe jail time, but it's not like assault, or murder, and nobody is physically harmed by it.
i'm sorry... the words rabbit and knights templar had me thinking of monty python
