Isn't Steam Early Access in some way the same as Greenlight?
Dev's only need to apply for it and their on Steam.
This game looks like a fucking nightmare.
Do you have even the faintest idea what sort of volume they've got coming in? It's physically impossible for them to playtest everything that goes on the service.
I'll playtest shitty videogames all day for Valve for minimum wage. So long as I get two robots to sit there and commentate with me. (And all Twitch and Youtube proceeds.)
If anything shouts out 'Free Unity content', it's this game. I even remember using those trees in Unity for the sake of just needing a tree model for a prototype.
Not in a long time this game was ready for Early Access.

The game was never ready. It's sole purpose was a money grab.
The developer used copyrighted materials and used a (stolen) game from a Ukrainian unity community to advertise on indiegogo and indiedb that had better quality than this.
He started to remove everything related to the stolen game after people starting putting two together.
And good fucking riddance. What a shamefur dispray...
Steam really needs a system similar to Google's verified developer or Apple's top developer system
I know there's a lot of hate flying around about newbie developers getting into the scene through early access and greenlight, but I really hope they don't completely abandon these services because of fuckups like this guy. I really hope it becomes easier for people to publish their own games wihtout going through publishing giants who's vision doesn't match the creators. I mean sure, with this system some garbage is gonna get through, but is anyone denying that garbage gets through in the standard model of publishing? Just because one guy doesn't care about his customers experience doesn't mean everyone doesn't and I feel like a lot of people who actually need money were able to turn their talents into cash with this service.
I get that whole side of this issue, I really do, but as a person living in poverty I am always happy to see anything that makes it easier to go from an idea to a product, with as few steps in between as possible.
I think they should allow people to put their games up for EXTREMELY cheap or completely free to a limited number of people, and use those people's reviews of the software to determine if the game is worth publishing or not, that way people aren't shelling out full price for a piece of garbage, and developers are still able to publish without yet another middleman. Though, the people who have access to it for reviewing in the early stages should be game professionals, at least in some form (like having successfully published through greenlight already)
I'd love to keep greenlight, but with quality control added on top to prevent games like this

They're not abandoning these services, they're going to make it easier for more cash grab scams to find their way onto Steam.
my little shibe cant be this cute
How much for MGQ GOTY edition?

The rest of my post goes on to explain that I understand that, but that I think it does more good than harm both for developers and players. I was referring to people like you(?) who would like to see it removed completely because of a few bad apples.
Why do I want so much to this guy say quietly: "I have a banana"
its much alike to psychicpebbles's beautiful voice

I'm all for keeping Greenlight, but gotta be honest, the majority of the stuff going through there is shit and rarely worth a persons time. there's the rare The Forest for example and other good games, but they are very far apart.
Greenlight is gonna need some changes, especially someone to actually control the influx of stuff to a degree so the steam store doesn't get filled up by tons of stuff nobody really wants.

They could always create a system like Amazon mechanical turk where you get paid to verify the games, turk has all sorts of crazy algorithms that determine what you're paid per job, and I don't think Steam would find a shortage of informed people to do the work. You're right, changes need to be made, but I love the idea and I'd hate to see it abandoned, or worse for consumers to label it a garbage factory.
I hope the same happens to starforge so I can get a refund.
annnd because Valve don't manually approve anymore, publishers are dumping their entire backlog onto Steam. Even if the game is from the 90s.
So the storefront is filled with garbage, pushing real games off the new releases list.
You're not getting the point, rather instead you try to pretend to be intelligent and snide by referencing a good old game and using a smiley while making empty threats.
You're misinterpreting what TotalBiscuit is to saying. He's saying that OLD GAMES SHOULD NOT SHOW UP AS NEW RELEASES. What you think he's saying (which is what he is not saying) is to not publish old games on steam.
Excuse me that's fine and all but how the fuck else are they going to tell you hey this old game is on steam now?
Serious question, what's your solution to that problem when a publisher releases an old game on steam and doesn't get any sales because there's no indication that their game is out on steam on the front page or the news posts?
Oh god, the shaky camera is like using oculus rift while being cold
Do you have even the faintest idea what sort of volume they've got coming in? It's physically impossible for them to playtest everything that goes on the service.
Maybe at least playtest stuff that comes from a new unknown developer? Like just take a look to see if it actually matches the description and isn't a scam?
I think Greenlight is fine.
My common sense and just how obviously bad these games look has kept me away.
-snip misunderstanding-
i think it isnt the idea that individuals are ruining it, but rather the collective of a specific consumer base that really likes these "zombie shooting survival walk-em-up" games that keep buying this shit and lowering the bar for everyone
And like most things in life now we have to learn to live with them.
Like the Rust community.....
This will kill Steam or turn it into Gamestop/Game, absolute trash that's not worth the time.
I thought you couldn't beat Garry's Incident or guise of the wolf.
I was wrong.

A copy-paste of the New Releases box underneath that only shows older games just put on Steam.
We could call it Returning Champions or some shit like that.
How's that self run vision of Steam going for ya Gabe?
You're in for a bad time in the future, because they want to eventually remove all gatekeeping from the market. Anyone able to put anything on Steam.
what? where have you heard this? the only thing i've heard has been quite literally the opposite; that valve wanted to downplay greenlight and work towards getting rid of it. that was part of some super long youtube video a while ago

The system would really benefit if it had a mandatory game demo like XBLA and XBLIG.

What a very well thought out sales pitch.
How the fuck do you mutate into a robot?
