SFM uses a very different engine to Half Life 2's
It's not dramatically Different. It's all in the Lighting.
OP didn't link the source.
I believe it's from ValveTime.net, but I couldn't find it.
Source is LambdaGen but they're having site issues which might be why OP left it out temporarily. http://lambdageneration.com/posts/gabe-newell-officially-confirms-that-a-next-gen-valve-engine-is-in-development/
You just brought us to the part of the video were Gabe says he has NOT yet played Black Mesa! asdfghjkl
I don't know where it starts for you, but for me it starts at 48:12. 48:16 "We had an internal project named Stars of Blood" etc etc
A tad late, but fucking awesome. Also I know it's said it's not just an extension, but I hope they mean it. I hope that it's called Source 2 just for the sake of it, not because of similarity in any way whatsoever. I'm really sick of source.
An entire new engine, not just engine stuffs.
I guess it depends on how you look at it. Not exactly interested in a debate about it, it's just some people like to think this means everything is thrown out and started again, which is not the case. But if you consider the changes from goldsrc to source an entire new engine then I guess this is too. I just dislike the way the title is over sensationalized.
Soon people will be gasping at the before and after of HL2 Gman.
I remember I use to follow Gamespy for game news and stuff. And I liked their client thing because of the steam exhaust sound thing. :v:
To me it's like saying "Breaking news: valve programmers are programming" It's obvious, they're always researching and developing new techniques, it's just we never get to see them.
I think you're really missing the point that Valve never reveals this stuff regularly anymore. Just them saying "We're working on Half-Life 3" would be an insanely surprising and exciting thing for all Valve fans.
I'm so excited for this, and I'm really gonna miss Source 1 The Source engine has come so far, it's unreal. We went from this: To this: In the same engine I hope Source 2 has as much flexibility and Moddability as it's predecessor
this is more due to valve's advances in art and less the engine
I believe it's from ValveTime.net, but I couldn't find it.
Actually I don't really care, I just posted for the pun. But nobody noticed :(
obvously they are just making a new source engine because garry finally finished ironing out ALL the bugs garrysmod had with the current engine, theyre not intending to actually make HL3 or anything, na just gabe screwing with garry
We'll finally get Left 4 Dead 3
hope it has an 8 survivor coop mode pick any survivor from any of the 3 games, up to 8 survivors max, ultra mega hardcore more where the game is made impossible unless you have 8 people. :v:
I have a feeling this engine is for a new IP.
we at valve are proud to introduce a new game, team garryslife 4 dead 3, with extra headcrabs
If the new engine will be nicer than CryEngine 3 and UnrealEngine4, and would keep the system requiments as low as the old Source engine, then Valve would be the epic winner in this war... But I don't care about graphics, I still want to play games on my shitty videocard. Also, remember Half-Life Source? Now we get Half-Life 2: Source 2
Somehow Citadel: Source 2 sounds much less awesome than BLACK MESA.
Nice to have it official. Whatever the new Source ends up being, I sort of hope it retains some of the visual traces of the original Source. How a game looks is largely dependent on its art assets, but there is something about the way materials and world lighting is handled in Source often gives games a recognizable look.
It looks less cinematic and more like a game, really.
I hope that when they do end up announcing Half-Life 3, the trailer starts out as a trailer for Ricochet 2.
RICOCHET 2 - ONLY $49.99!* *includes free bonus: Half-Life 3
Soon people will be gasping at the before and after of HL2 Gman.
oh man it's been almost 10 years!!!! 10 fucking years since i saw that shit holy fucking shit. "Will this run on my 486" :v:
oh man it's been almost 10 years!!!! 10 fucking years since i saw that shit holy fucking shit. "Will this run on my 486" :v:
Wonder if this update will be as big as that update was from the original source :v: I hope so cloth physics/individual materials on models / etc gmod will have huge sweeping updates I hope!
Tears of joy.
just the thought of a faster workflow in hammer gives me a hard-on real time vrad would be a dream come true
just the thought of a faster workflow in hammer gives me a hard-on real time vrad would be a dream come true
WYSIWYG editor? Shit I'd love that.
I just want a higher polygon budget, it's just so frustrating when I try to compile something and I get that damn error.
I just want a higher polygon budget, it's just so frustrating when I try to compile something and I get that damn error.
Source was designed to run on pentium 4's they're definitely going to raise the budget also expect a dramatic decrease in loading times on hl3
Source was designed to run on pentium 4's they're definitely going to raise the budget also expect a dramatic decrease in loading times on hl3
I wouldn't say the loading times would be that much of a problem, with SSD's cheaping out, loading times with next generation games shouldn't be a problem at all
I wouldn't say the loading times would be that much of a problem, with SSD's cheaping out, loading times with next generation games shouldn't be a problem at all
The only reason that loading times were so frequent in levels was because of source limits. Assuming that they've increased it, levels will be much much larger and won't have to switch so often.
Soon people will be gasping at the before and after of HL2 Gman.
Shooting while suit-zoom never made it to the release it seems.. [editline]11th November 2012[/editline] But damn that was nostalgic
The only reason that loading times were so frequent in levels was because of source limits. Assuming that they've increased it, levels will be much much larger and won't have to switch so often.
I loved the days when loading chapters in HL2 was enough time to go and make a cup of tea.
The only reason that loading times were so frequent in levels was because of source limits. Assuming that they've increased it, levels will be much much larger and won't have to switch so often.
Hopefully extended terrain power and extending vehicles physics in source I hope AKA demo-derbies with new vehicle suspension and far more realistic terrain. Bigger maps, more allowed things within maps.
just the thought of a faster workflow in hammer gives me a hard-on real time vrad would be a dream come true
That reminds me did we ever get that hammer update that we were told of many months ago?
I wonder if it's going to be fully next-gen, but that also worries me since I think part of Source's draw is that people with older or weaker computers could still play with moderate performance. Hopefully we won't get totally cast out and forced to buy a new computer for the new era of Source, but I guess it's logical at this point. (Gabe please don't get require Shader model 3.0 I beg you, I need my games :( )
I don't find it to be very fair if really old computers (2007 and back) are the reason that we can't have advanced things.
If it's gonna be written in OpenGL and support old source 1 .mdl's, I'm gonna be in heaven.
