What the fuck is everyone's problem with F2P?
That it involves fucking microtransactions and shit like that. That I don't get the game's full experience unless I pay money after being told I could get the game for free, and how that's worse than paying upfront for a complete game or paying a monthly fee to keep the game's servers running. Or both. And how it's being widespread and they're coming out with a new goddamned F2P game every week.
lol calm down dude it's a fucking video game
Anyways
I, for one, am not going to just bandwagon like the rest of you whining about EA ruining one of your favwite video game sewies (omg so sad ;_;) and actually try it, unlike you people who can't even get their companies straight. [sp](P.S, Activision is the one who spams DLC and Nexon is the one that makes Pay-to-win MMOs. Sorry to kill your hate boner for EA, but you're wrong.)[/sp]
I'm sorry but a lot of people complaining about a game isn't a bandwagon, it should be taken as a message for them to stop making shitty games.

I dunno, when a group of fans, at first, says a game is great, then as soon as everyone's gone to "OMG EA IZ TEH BAD!!!11" they hate it, it sorta seems like a bandwagon to me.
[sp]Mass Effect 2 is the game[/sp]

It's not really the same thing here. EA had already announced generals 2, which actually could have been really good. However now they've decided they're going to scrap that and replace it with what will likely be another shitty pay 2 win game like age of empires online. CnC 4 and red alert 3 where also just bad games in general.
What the fuck is everyone's problem with F2P?
It's EA's way of doing F2P, which is P2W.
The track record is bad enough. Battlefield Heroes is a prime example. They started off saying that there would be no P2W aspect at all to it - all weapons would be able to be got with ingame currency as well as real money. Fast forward a year or so, and they increased the ingame price of weapons by 2000% (not a typo) in addition to adding overpowered weapons that could only be bought with real money.
They did the same with Battlefield F2P afaik.
In addition to that, an F2P model does not work with RTS games, how can you do it? Make the GLA and China payable extras and give the US by default? Give overpowered units for real money? Bonus starting resource for a premium?
The only realistic thing that a decent company could really charge for whilst maintaining balance is to have different unit skins / models e.t.c for a premium cost, but who would buy that? I suppose they could also do premium missions, but that's not going to sell well either. So, following their track record, I'd assume that they'd have unlockable units and bonuses that are gamebreaking and only available for real money. You could pull an extra faction, but that's going to rock balance so hard, especially considering you want there to be an incentive to buy it. Extra maps wouldn't work, as you'd need enough players to buy them, and those players who wanted to play the map with friends would need the friends to buy it and so on.

I'll agree that Red Alert 3 is bad, I've never played CnC4, but I really don't see any evidence this will be P2W.

Considering EA's track record, I'll eat my hat if it isn't.
If they start restricting units or factions in this then it's pretty much going to be a shitty P2W game.
Even if it isn't though there is still the fact that this probably won't have any single player, which is the part of the CnC games that I enjoy the most since I like to mess around in skirmish mode most of the time and very rarely go online.

Ah, well I think the reason we see this differently is because I played the online for countless hours as a younger kid. :v:
Aw man, I loved Generals. It was my favorite CnC game (even though it really had nothing to do with CnC)
Why don't EA just make a HD version of Generals /w Zero Hour added in and include some elements from the Shockwave mod, then resell it for $15 and have it sell like hotcakes.
That would be a good idea, especially if they made the infantry not look like shit.
And here I was thinking this one would be good. Way to go EA.
Why the hell does an F2P game need DRM?
Kind of late, but you do realize that this game is multiplayer only, right? Name one F2P mutliplayer game that doesn't have "always on" DRM.
Even TF2 has always online DRM, considering you need to be connected to their servers to use items.
I knew they'd fuck Generals 2, either through being an Origin exclusive, excessive DLC, or pre-order content. And with free-to-play, I know that all it means now is the game will just probably just end up with pay-to-win crap.
To be honest, I don't even really like particular style the game has anyway. That bloom the Frostbite engine has just ends up bothering me, I don't honestly see why people find it appealing to continue putting it in games..
Oh well, I guess if you like Generals/Zero Hour, you still have the Shockwave mod to play. That's still pretty good.
that gameplay trailer doesn't seem very impressive either
EA is running C&C into the fucking ground despite having crashed and burned after the first C&C:Generals
God fuck it I was looking forward to this.
Judging from that trailer it has instant building time and no workers/resource gathering.
Not looking good.
I liked Generals and Zero Hour. Since then it's sucked. Free 2 Play from EA just means features are going to be absent and sprinkled in over time, probably nickel and diming you throughout
No thanks
The C&C Franchise deserves better than to be free, it deserves the treatment and respect of any other good RTS.
I can't wait to spend in game EA Dollars™ to buy unit upgrades and other broken shit!
That said, fuck this, fuck that, fuck everything. I'm going back to Generals. My hope for this title went from semi-high to shit-tier. :v:
Goddammit what the hell, did they just ruin my favorite franchise? I thought CNC4 was bad, holy shit they just made another bomb. Who is in charge of this policy shaping at EA? They need to be shot.
Why do they keep using DRM?
Haven't they got it through their thick one mile wide skulls that it doesn't work? Every single one of their games have been cracked, what's the point of having DRM?!

"Waaahhh I have to be constantly connected to the internet to play an online game!"
[editline]15th August 2012[/editline]
EA is pretty garbage at F2P games so I have little hope for this unless John Ravioli dies and somebody with more than 1 braincell will take his place.
Why rename it Command and Conquer don't sully a once decent franchise with more of this shit.
They're just finishing what they did with the later Tiberium games and Red Alert 3.
I stopped playing the franchise after Generals.
C&C3 owned.
Electronic Arts? More like Extremely Awful.
Damn, I loved Generals. Was exited for a new one and now they have to do this.
"Waaahhh I have to be constantly connected to the internet to play an online game!"

I used to live with an absolutely shit internet connection. Online games were impossible. So I was for a very long period of time stuck with games that had SP and offline modes, which I was grateful for.
What EA is doing with Generals 2 in making it F2P, is simply whale shit. Generals 1 had a fun campaign and a great skirmish options. You didn't need a constantly online connection in order to have fun.
EA FUCKING KILL YOURSELVES
Had my hopes up for this game.
Aaaaaand they're gone.
Thank god I forgot about this until now and found End Of Nations in the mean time.
But End of Nations is F2P as well.
