Don't drink the water they put something in it to make you forget.
This is why I drink bottled water.
Water in the nose. Unclean water that gets sufficiently far in the nose allows it to take root.
I thought it was the 2-part episode where it was from the watering system. EDIT: Yeah it is, Naegleria fowleri.
I was just about to ask if this was the same thing that fucked Foreman up spooky shit, I wouldn't want anyone to get zombie'd by a fuckin amoeba
nah this happened to some little boy that went swimming
They won't turn you into a zombie, but they will make you very dead.
I should have been more clear; zombie'd, in this context, means 'brains gettin eaten'.
Oh thank god, they didn't mention jefferson parish. Still though, this really blows. How do you fix an issue like this?
Oh thank god, they didn't mention jefferson parish. Still though, this really blows. How do you fix an issue like this?

There are no means yet known that would control naturally occurring Naegleria fowleri levels in lakes and rivers making prevention difficult. Because of this, swimmers and other recreational water users should assume that there is always a low level of risk whenever they enter warm freshwater lakes, rivers, and hot springs (for example, when swimming, diving, or waterskiing), particularly in southern-tier states.
Basically this.
Basically this.
Thank god I stopped swimming in lakes a long time ago.
Pretty far from where I am at but this is still pretty disturbing. I forget to also say that this doesn't seem like it would be to bad as far as killing loads of people but it still gives me the creeps. Actually I take that back, thought about for a bit.
In order for transmission to occur the amoeba has to make direct contact with the olfactory nerve, which isn't really as easy as it seems But I am a little freaked out because last week while taking a shower a little bit of water went right up my nose. And now I'm feeling slightly feverish, but not too much.
Write your will
I went on a ride along with one of my friends around a month ago and she had a special needs girl in the back seat she had to look after last minute. my friend says she wasn't always that way and tells me she went swimming with dolphins and got this weird infection. we instantly recognized it as this. it fried a little of her brain but they managed to fight it off ..leaving her a little ditzy but not too bad Then a few months later she got it again and this time it just completly ate away at her brain within days. She survived but now is very special needs ...brains perma-locked at 6 years old when it happened and her only real interest is mcdonalds. She does this one thing though that freaks me out. Her memory is badly damaged ..as in walking out of mcdonalds and you can say "shall we go to mcdonalds" and she will be all "omg yes can we!" forgetting the past hour you just spent there. But sometimes her memory just plain shorts out and she, not even joking here, gets stuck in a loop. Like a damaged android she will instantly forget the last sentence she said so she says it again ..and again...and again...ond ohmyGODWHATDOIDOTOMAKEHERSTOP! "what movie you wanna watch" "simpsons" *twitch* "simpsons" *twitch* "simpsons" etc etc. my friends good with her but holy shit how do i fix her when she malfunctions! wheres the damn reset button!
95% fatality rate. Thats insane.
That generally is the result when little organisms decide to gobble up your brain.
This happens fairly often in LA. That's why neti pots specifically warn against using tap water if you live in that area of the country.

I've been living in Louisiana my entire life and I've never had problems with our tap, and there are only temporary alerts if some specific contamination happens to the local source. I've been following this story for a while, you basically have to snort tap water in the most affected locales for the off chance of getting this infection. We've gotten boil warning like 5 or 6 times for misc things since I can remember, not including post hurricane/flood events.
i live on the opposite end of the state from St. John's parish but i'm going to commence freaking the fuck out anyway.

Bloody hell, I hope this stuff doesn't crop up much down here. I get water up my nose almost every time I shower (gotta shampoo and condition the beard to keep it nice and smooth).

Boil warnings are there for a reason mate
Don't drink the water they put something in it to make you forget.
More like "don't snort the water" [editline]29th August 2014[/editline] Which you shouldn't anyways, I mean, why would you?
