Who? The rich or the poor?
they'd be better off under capitalism
I disagree. A state that's been under communism for so long would suffer massively from the transition. Especially a state like Cuba.

everyone

When you've been living in a dependent state for four generations, transitioning is quite hard and forces a lot of people into greater poverty. Seriously, look at the 90s in that eastern europe place.

can't afford education because you weren't born into the middle/upper class? Too bad, its a endless cycle which your children will also be a part of.
I really hope the Cubans implement more Democratic measures, but I really don't think they need Raul's capitalist bullshit.
Don't Cubans get some sort of special status once they touch US soil? I forget the specifics..
what do we have left? vietnam?
Even then, Vietnam is starting to be a major role in international trade. Electronic design, iirc.

The only people who make that claim are usually undeserving / incapable of achieving said class position.

There's Laos and NK.
Three words: The Republican Party, it's still devoutly anti-communist and if Obama were to remove the embargo, it would give them ammunition to use against the Democrats in the next elections. And wasn't it Romney who said that Russia is still the biggest threat to our national security? So some of them still think the Cold War never really ended.
And there's still plenty of older Americans who say Communism is the devil-incarnated and shit like that. And don't expect those feelings to disappear or change anytime soon either.
Don't forget about all of the exiled Cubans living in Florida. A lot of them would have aneurysms if the US gov were to lift the pressure off of Cuba's current regime, and quite a few of them have a fair amount of political clout.
I'd really like to visit Cuba
It seems really nice

It's funny that all I know of Loas is that you attack it during a Call of Duty campaign.

Why are people rating this dumb? He hit the nail square on the head; The GOP/Republicans would fight something like that tooth and nail because it threatens their ideology.
I went to Cuba 4 years ago (yay canada) people were quite poor back then but their society in general is very interresting

Pretty much Cuba is the holiday vacation spot for Canada

Because it sounds like you're trying to generalize the entire Republican Party as a bunch of rednecks that hate Commies

I think they get full citizenship or something.
I don't understand, has their been an embargo against Cuba for over 50 years? How does their economy work?
