• Pull up your Pants or face six solid months in jail is in a effect in a Florida City

This is disgusting, racist, and offensive, and the first person to get arrested should immediately challenge the law in court and have it overturned. It's a pathetic excuse to imprison and oppress minorities for the sake of "decency" when women can openly wear bikinis and men can freely wear speedos on public beaches in the area. And because someone on Facepunch is inevitably going to say I'm racist for saying that only black people sag their pants, this law will undoubtedly ignore the affluent white kids who do so. It's specifically targeted against the fashion of a certain race in an intentionally discriminatory way. It's genuinely no different than fining and imprisoning Arabic people for wearing Thawbs, or arresting and charging Irish people for wearing kilts. Disgusting.
They're not even trying to hide the fact that the prison-industrial complex exists.
Don't worry. They'll die soon.
Source?
"So what are you in for?" "Not pulling up my pants"

They're just letting the other jail guys know that they're ready to accept a meaty shlong up their bottom. Apparently there are three levels of pant bottom dragging. Just a little showing your ass crack is meaning you'd be willing to give a blowjob. Second way is a little bit further, blowjob/maybe sex Third way which shows all of your ass, is, "I want it right now"
actually this is a racist and homophobic urban myth
Iunno, it's just from what people who have been in jail up here in Canada have been saying
Well it is obvious to everyone that anyone who wears their pants like that are in fact criminals. So instead of doing police work and catching them in the act all they need to do now is arrest them because of their pants.
Iunno, it's just from what people who have been in jail up here in Canada have been saying
yeah and my english teacher once told me she knew somebody who named their kids orangejello and lemonjello haha black people am I right

Also sagging your pants wasn't a black thing, it was a thing in prison (Though it wasn't saying you wanted a dick up your ass as some myths say), which was eventually adopted by hip hop artists.

So we have people claiming this is solely a race thing? Because only black people sag their pants amirite? And then we got people saying to just buy better fitting clothes, because all clothes are inevitably sized the exact same way and account for every aspect of every person to ensure a proper fit. And honestly, it's Florida, it's a bit of a fucked up place anyway so I'm not exactly surprised.
Since when has this been an ethnic thing? I've seen whites, blacks and hispanics all do this?
Just because that kind of street fashion has been appropriated by other groups doesn't mean it's not still popularly associated with the minority subcultures in which it originated. Do you honestly think that the ancient white lawmakers behind this don't have any prejudices towards the people that they're threatening with jailtime? [editline]19th July 2014[/editline] how can anybody be so naive as to see such an extreme law as being the product of an innocent, even-handed concern with "indecent exposure?"
As much as I find "sagging" a dumb fashion fad, 6 months in jail and a $500 fine on top of it is unbelievably stupid.
Yeah, but when you think about it, so is wearing your pants around your knees.
You guys dont understand, this ordinance is saving lives. If he had his pants pulled up he wouldnt have had someone yell at him to pull up his pants, and he wouldn't have fell in the street risking being ran over. Its clear this law doesn't go far enough, we should have to wear only goverment approved clothing in an a goverment approved way to curve more clothing related deaths. Think of the children.
Wow, this is really stupid. like wow. on top of the already obvious reasons why this is a stupid idea, what if you just can't afford or can't find clothes that fit correctly? i used to be pretty underweight and my jeans would constantly sag unless i wore an uncomfortably tight belt (i mean like, punching extra holes in it tight).
Their clothes fit properly, they just chose to wear it around their ankles instead. Seriously, most people I see doing this do so with pants/shorts with elastic waist bands. Don't buy sizes that are too large, and for everything else, there's a belt (that costs all of $10). If the belt is too tight, take it down a hole or two, it'll still keep shit where it needs to be, you don't need to cut off circulation to your lower extremities to prevent sagging. I'm not condoning jailtime or a $500 fine for this kind of shit, but this excuse is a piss-poor one.
who's gonna arrest them? [t]http://fashionexchangesd.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/fashion-police.jpg[/t]
This is against freedom of expression. It's a disgusting policy.
This is against freedom of expression. It's a disgusting policy.
I'm going to go walk naked through an elementary school everyday. LOLFREEDOMOFEXPRESSION! But if you are talking about "freedom of expression", then all types of freedom of expression should be allowed. The second you start restricting some, you open the door to restricting them all. It really is an all or nothing deal....
God dammit Florida.
So being a douchebag is illegal now?
Why even make this illegal? What is this law supposed to protect?
Come back to me when you have statistics saying only blacks, or minorities in general are being arrested for this.
You're going to have to wait a while for that, buddy, seeing as how this ordinance was just approved. I shouldn't need statistics to convince people that this ordinance is ideologically racist. It specifically targets a singular fashion statement which is stereotypically attributed to minorities. Just because you, singularly, have seen white people dressed like this (I have too) doesn't mean that the prevailing cultural attitudes don't exist. To defend this ordinance you have to (A) assume that these lawmakers are in-touch enough with fashion to know that lots of people dress this way, you have to (B) take their word for it that low-riding pants are a severe enough public concern to warrant police action, and you have to (C) agree that a 500 dollar fine or half a year in prison are appropriate punishments for wearing your pants too low, like putting someone in prison for six months will somehow reform their desire to wear baggy pants as opposed to just entrenching them in a vicious cycle of prison recidivism and dwindling opportunities. B and C are obvious nonsense so I don't see how anybody behind this has earned the benefit of a doubt with regards to A. The leaps in logic a person has to make in order to believe that this law is in good faith are beyond my comprehension. It's like watching an olympic mental gymnastics routine.
