University leaders outraged after vulgar signs greet incoming freshmen
a complete scapegoat
as if people outside frats are one iota different
as if people wouldn't do the same exact shit without frats
frats tend to reinforce this sort of behavior
This is not a very bright idea and on a moral standpoint a farce.
But this is what I don't get...
It is just the blown ass out of proportion on a large scale, it is a motherfucking sign, how does this even warrant anything larger then local news.

Well the source has it filed under "scandals", so imo the same logic as a tabloid applies to this story.
Putting up a sign is sexual harassment
What a world
When the sign says something along the lines of "can't wait to have sex with your daughters ;)", then yes. Yes it is sexual harassment.
Yes it is sexual harassment.
I think this term should be reserved for worse things than signs.

Huge crowd of people that get triggered by stuff like this and an equally huge crowd of people that hate the triggered crowd. Good for the views on your site needless to say.
What is it with Americans being completely unable to handle any sort of banter these days?
That is not banter.
I get you're really mad at me for some reason, but yes, temporary signs do count if they are not removed, and you'll note I actually said in my post that I know it doesn't apply everywhere, only in most cases that I'm aware of.
they were put up for the sole purpose of move-in day shenanigans. calm down
This is no different than an offensive bumper sticker, and those are perfectly legal. Hell, I saw one recently on some hilarious Malibu with massive rims, it said "Put it in your mouth b*tch" in old English across the entire back of his window. Those people are just doing you a favor, informing you on their ignorance and behavior without even having to talk to them. People need to grow up, because rude idiots exist regardless if you shield your child's eyes or not.
Lol, thats actually pretty funny by them. They should not be punished in my opinion.
Its just a fraternity doing what fraternety's do.
Funny stupid shit.
If you did this in a workplace you'd probably get fired for being a creepy fuck AKA sexual harassment
So, you know, maybe it's them who should stop being creepy assholes and at least try to act like normal people
A workplace is totaly different then a frat house.
Or do you also get drunk at work daily?
How is this news? Some people do stupid shit to provoke freshman, that has always happened in the past.
A student said “thought seriously about going back home” and suddenly, it is a big deal. Grow up and learn how to deal with assholes, because you won't be sheltered forever.
When the sign says something along the lines of "can't wait to have sex with your daughters ;)", then yes. Yes it is sexual harassment.
No it isnt.
Its not directed at anybody. And its pretty obvious that its just a joke to begin with.
The term sexual harassment should be reserved for people actually doing sexual harassment. Like bosses asking sexual for extra's from their workers. Or someone that keeps making sexual innuendo's'/sending pictures to co workers/co students while they have been repeatedly asked to stop.
The fraternity in question is under the control of the school and the larger frat organization that it is a chapter of. It wouldn't surprise me if the larger organization did something about this because it can severely hurt their reputation.
This. Whether or not you think this was funny, your opinion is irrelevant. What they did was an asshole thing, that's why their school is pissed off, and now they're in trouble.
In the future: don't be an obnoxious asshole in public, and there won't be any problems. Pretty simple. But this was a frat, so who's actually shocked?
That is fucking disgusting. I would be put off immiedately, and it would suck out all the excitement of going to uni right there and then.
You can also tell your customers or clients to fuck off if they're being legitimately abusive, though?
My point is that disliking their kind of behaviour isn't exactly new, and this whole "Grrr SJWs... GRRR PC... GRR ASDESF" shit that keeps coming up as soon as someone is offended by something most people get or should get offended by is pretty stupid
There's a school that's angry because one of their frats behaved like fucking morons and hurt their reputation already worse than what it is, and there's parents and students that are annoyed because this isn't exactly a welcoming message to them. Gee, it's almost like formal institutions and private individuals both generally want to live in a world where common civility and order are enforced in public environments.
I don't understand how anyone could think that this has anything to do with political correctness.

That doesn't mean we should be accepting of this behavior though.
That doesn't mean we should be accepting of this behavior though.
I definitely agree. Doing something like that is something most reasonably people won't support. However, even suggesting that a prank like that equates to sexual harassment or sexual assault or dating violence or any other serious similar problem is imo quite ridiculous and insulting.
Being outraged at something like this feels like an overreaction. I mean you have people saying they should be booted from college.
“Rowdy and fun hope your baby girl is ready for a good time…”, “Freshman daughter drop off” and “Go ahead and drop off mom too…”
How can you say this isn't sexual harassment? Tell it like it is, it's disgusting macho frat culture that shouldn't be tolerated. Trying to downplay it because you don't like the term "sexual harassment" is ridiculous because it is 100% applicable. If this is a joke or a prank then you're going to have to enlighten me because I'm not getting the funny part.
I agree with this sentiment, the other night I went to a party with one of my suite mates who is a party animal and it was fucking wild. I did talk to a few chill people but they were mostly not blazed or drunk out of their minds like most of the people at the party. And when my suite mate talked about it he said "comeon, it's college" and I thought "but this isn't what it's about right?"
What I don't get is how the fuck do these party animals actually manage to get a degree? Is it really that easy in most US colleges?

While disgusting and stupid, this is not sexual harassment. Before coming here all mighty and righteous at least provide some sources or reasoning because if you read up on what sexual harassment is, you will notice that you're wrong. For instance, in http://www.discriminationattorney.com/lawyer-attorney-1287338.html you can read things like:
For the harassment to be illegal, the victim must also have made a request that the behavior stop. This means that the first request or advance is never illegal.
and
For the harassment to be illegal, the victim must not be able to easily terminate the relationship without tangible hardship. In other words, if the victim can just leave without any trouble, it's not illegal.
and so on. This is a fight not worth battling but at least stop comparing this crap to sexual harassment. This, a person can look at it, call them a bunch of idiots and move on with your life. Sexual harassment is not that easy.

How about citing ODU's actual policy?http://www.odu.edu/content/dam/odu/policies/university/1000/univ-1005.pdf
Sexual Harassment - A form of discrimination based on sex. It is defined as unwelcome sexualadvances, requests for sexual favors, or other conduct of a sexual nature including: verbal (e.g.,specific demands for sexual favors, sexual innuendoes, sexually suggestive comments, jokes of asexual nature, sexual propositions, or sexual threats); non-verbal (e.g., sexually suggestiveemails, other writings, articles or documents, objects or pictures, graphic commentaries, suggestive or insulting sounds or gestures, leering, whistling, or obscene gestures); or physical(e.g., touching, pinching, brushing the body, any unwelcome or coerced sexual activity, includingsexual assault). Sexual harassment, including sexual assault, can involve persons of the same ordifferent sexes. Sexual harassment may also include sex-based harassment directed towardstereotypical notions of gender identity or a failure to conform to those gender stereotypes.
Also in the article:
Broderick said at least one young student he talked to “thought seriously about going back home” after seeing the “offensive message.”

Rachael Holiday, an ODU sophomore, told the Virginian-Pilot that she saw the banners on Friday while helping new students move in. She said most of the parents she spoke to wanted the banners taken down and told her they were thinking of pulling their daughters out of the school.
Several people felt intimidated enough that were going to take their daughters out of the school. Where are you drawing the line? At one point does this turn from just a "disgusting joke" to legitimate harassment and intimidation? These are off-campus houses so the university has full authority to investigate and punish the students involved.
I mean it isn't illegal but show some fucking respect to freshman holy hell
Hahahahaa
It's not that bad at all, it is tasteless but really, I'm tired of this PC centric bullshit I have to go to day to day. I can't say "parents" when talking about the PTA when I sign people up at my college because it might offend someone now.
edit:
basically praised at totalfratmove.com
I'm glad to see people being actually fucking sensible and not joining into the PC overreaction outrage thing lately where they target everything and everything, no matter if it's actually fucking reasonable.

Wait seriously? Why would people get offended? Adoption? Legal Guardians?
Well can't say what the intentions are until the correct people are caught. If Virginia is a terrible place and you see it full of rapists and players, maybe setup those signs to warn people off and shed light on those people who you condemn of bad character. Can't completely tell until it's over.
Yet, one of the requirements for becoming a US citizen through naturalization and in immigration law is to prove yourself a "character of good morale."
[editline]26th August 2015[/editline]
Which, I know, has almost nothing to do with this. But these individuals could hardly be described as such. They basically represented the institution as "Hey come get yo daughter destroyed in here, oh and we also like hot moms."
As far as criminal charges go, they may have ill-represented the institution, and could go for damages or crimes against property. The University should be able to kick the individuals out if they want? Like, every University has its code of conduct broken by students, but usually in private and without involving other people or without seeking to cause any shit, which I would find less reprehensible.
I thought the, "drop off mom too" part was pretty hilarious. It's humor. Sure, in other people's opinions, this is tasteless and disgusting. But here's the thing about that, guys, those are opinions. Everyone has a right to one, everyone has the right to think someone else's is dumb or great or right or wrong or whatever. It's subjective. My opinion is that while the rest is bland, dumb frat humor, the part I mentioned was actually pretty funny.

Really tempted to get hooked on this bait but part of me is like, nah our country is better than your country. If little digs like that make you feel better about it that's alright with me. :o)

This is political correctness gone mad.
It is political correctness gone mad. We've gotten to the point where everything must be polite, and in a way that people are being censored because they must act a certain way. Now I understand political correctness is important however this new age of protecting everyone from everything possible is awful.
Once again; it wasn't bad, it was tasteless. People should be able to say what they want but also face the consequence of being judged an idiot, not going to jail or having their life wrecked for it. Of course this statement is going to be taken out of hand "oh wow you support racism etc."
What a slippery slope. There's no legal action being applied here, the university is disciplining anyone involved which they have full right to do so because it violates their student policy. There's no censoring involved either, this is off-campus property. It's called common decency, if you hang up signs basically amounting to "ay gurl u want some fuk" then don't be surprised if people call you out for being a huge shitlord.

Bait? I'm genuinely curious. How does a frat party animal also manage to get their essays done and pass tests? Are they also huge nerds? I don't get it. People who play sports, party each week and such, when do they study if at all?

People wanting other people to be nice and calling out assholes? How horrible of them. PC or no PC, being an asshole should not be socially acceptable.
