University leaders outraged after vulgar signs greet incoming freshmen

college boys, especially frat boys ("no means yes and yes means anal") are honest-to-god scumbags who just devote their lives to shoving their dicks into any warm, damp orifice whatever the cost. this stops being a funny joke when you realize how little horny college guys care about a girl's well-being.
People wanting other people to be nice and calling out assholes? How horrible of them. PC or no PC, being an asshole should not be socially acceptable.
The guy that you quoted clearly said that they should "face the consequence of being judged an idiot." I'm not sure how you can read than and get that he doesn't want other's to call them out as assholes.
People really need to understand the difference between social pressure and legal pressure. I can agree that something is stupid, that people should socially ostracize them, etc. while also not agreeing that the law should step in and prosecute them for sexual harassment.

There should be a law specifically against this sort of shit.

This is an awful portrayal of fraternity life, that I do admit is deserved due to the tryhards in the greek community.
Let me explain. As founding father and president of my chapter, I've been through it all. I can speak for my chapter, and the greek community at my university and say that not all Greeks are this. This would not happen at my University, nor would any competent chapter across the country do this. Because we honestly respect women, women and sorority women are important to fraternity. The chapters who respect women tend to stay on campus. Those that don't are just failures and live based off BroBible, Chive, and TFM.
The media hates greek life. My fraternity was covered in the PCB veteran story. I received numerous death threats due to the PCB incident. Turns out the lady lied, police investigators found no evidence whatsoever, and we were cleared as innocent.
I know many facepunch users hate fraternity, but really a lot of the bullshit thats on the news just shadows the good that greek life in general can do. We raise a lot of money for our philanthropies, more than any non-greek organization on campus, and we also develop our brothers into better men. I won't deny many fraternities do promote this sort of behavior (because they strive to be on TFM), but please, we aren't evil.
And also, it sounds like you have an issue with college aged males and fraternity men in general, and you're projecting here.
Once again - this behavior is TASTELESS, however I can not agree and say it is "evil" and that lawful action should be taken against this. University policy and the Greek Life Office already has policy, or should (if they are a respectable GLO), to discourage and punish this behavior.
They're punished enough with the fact that most girls will be disgusted with that organization and not associate with them.
Well done prank. Cost $10-20. Significant amount of outrage achieved. Probably not worth the university consequences though and I guess you are okay with an image of being assholes.
Fuck the university definition of sexual harassment, universities shouldn't be handling serious crimes that is what the police and courts are for. How the fuck do you know if your not "welcome", I mean obviously back down if the other person tells you to stop. Not matter what make or model you are you should be able to attempt to flirt with someone and not risk a sexual harassment charge, unless you persist after being told to stop.
Now yes if they are apart of the university, they agreed to a contract, of not promoting a negative image and if the university thinks that is happening they can reprimand the organization part of the university. Maybe they're violating their renters agreement, but this is not a legal thing.
I don't believe in dumbing down to thin skinned, assholes can be assholes. If $20 in signage makes you reconsider getting education, reevaluate your priorities, as this is a pretty minor roadblock to encounter in life, and if its too much then education probably isn't right for you.
No I wouldn't say any of this or make signs like that as a member and VP of my fraternity as we realize a lot of people take things way too seriously and we want to promote a positive image of us and our university of who we are instead of being tasteless assholes.
Appealing to emotional concern is a reason for some things going to shit as things are not analyzed thoroughly and rash decisions are made. I.E SJWs. It's scary how much courts pander to "victims", when its often as simple as some people can't use a fucking ladder properly. So ladders and swimming pools become more expensive faster than labor or material prices due to all the money going to people that get hurt and sue.
I would feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe to share a college with those guys
Hahahahaa
It's not that bad at all, it is tasteless but really, I'm tired of this PC centric bullshit I have to go to day to day. I can't say "parents" when talking about the PTA when I sign people up at my college because it might offend someone now.
edit:
basically praised at totalfratmove.com
i didn't know "don't be a dick" was political correctness bullshit
: Several people felt intimidated enough that were going to take their daughters out of the school. Where are you drawing the line? At one point does this turn from just a "disgusting joke" to legitimate harassment and intimidation? These are off-campus houses so the university has full authority to investigate and punish the students involved.
If they are offended that easily they should probably just stay at home for the rest of their life. Because everything is going to offend them. Seriously how stupid do you have to be if you have to go home if you see a random sign half a mile away. I suspect some prime fox word twisting was at play here, instead of people actually wanting to go home.
I thought the, "drop off mom too" part was pretty hilarious. It's humor. Sure, in other people's opinions, this is tasteless and disgusting. But here's the thing about that, guys, those are opinions. Everyone has a right to one, everyone has the right to think someone else's is dumb or great or right or wrong or whatever. It's subjective. My opinion is that while the rest is bland, dumb frat humor, the part I mentioned was actually pretty funny.
Can you explain why it's funny though?
Can you explain why it's funny though?
Can you exlain why any joke is funny? Seriously try it, it's very hard. Hence computer generated jokes don't really exist.
you said it unironically
oh my goodness
Oh my goodness, I don't share the same opinions as you on the subject thus I am an asshole!
Oh my goodness, I don't share the same opinions as you on the subject thus I am an asshole!
Yeah, I agree to be honest, too much of that I've noticed in my recent time here.
Oh my goodness, I don't share the same opinions as you on the subject thus I am an asshole!
for someone who's attacking people for getting offended too easily you sure sound pretty touchy
he didn't call you an asshole btw

Uh, what? Just because they want to go home from college, IE a place where they'll be living and learning from for the next 4+ years, because they see some lewd remarks from a fucking frat where (not all necessarily do but you can't deny that the media's been making it seem like all of them do this) they are known to actually fucking rape people, does not mean that they are babies that are going to cry and run in the opposite direction whenever they see something lewd.
it's true not frat guys are known to pull this kind of bullshit too, but there have been studies (not to mention personal experience) that show that very awful men are more likely to join frats, or, alternatively, that there is something about frat culture that turns normal men into shitty men
Emotionally, intellectually, and socially speaking, there's nothing at all "wrong" with frat brothers. Studies haven't shown them to be more sadistic, less intelligent, or in any way different to any other people. It's not "bad people" joining fraternities, it's that fraternities inspire an extremely strong bond between their members, and that inappropriate behavior that occurs between these members feeds off itself because of that bond. It is why otherwise "good" people might do shocking things, such as the rape, humiliation, and abuse of incoming freshmen.
There is a long chapter about this process in the book "Influence: Science and Practice," by Doctor Robert Cialdini. The focus of the book is in how decision-making behavior is ultimately a result of a series of automatic and mechanical "shortcuts" our brains take in determining the proper responses to different situations, and uses fraternities as one of the examples in the chapters about the principles of social influence on that process. It's pretty fascinating stuff.

No it's not? Surely we find jokes funny for reasons. Hell, sometimes jokes take some explaining.
TheLaughingGod simply said that the "drop off mom too" joke was funny in particular, but didn't mention why due to how funnied he was about it.
I could try to give you an explanation why it may be considered funny: because adultery, because sex with ur mom. These jocks have no idea, people don't really do it because it's a funny joke.
