Yet another girl lies about her age on a dating app to another teenager, other teen gets placed on s
What is your guys' problem? The girl is 14, lied about her age so she could get laid, which really is not a big deal in the slightest. She had no understanding of the consequences, and even if she did, you can't just punish a person for doing nothing illegal, let alone lying.
well he can go after her parents because they are responsible for her online activity, he can go after the website for not ensuring that the girl is telling the truth, but ultimately its not going to matter
I think she's well aware actions can have severe consequences now, if she's sincere in the apology letter. I'm against punishment because she's just an unwitting participant in the joke that is the legal system. You're saying she needs to "think things through better" but how could she? I doubt she's properly educated on the topic.

I don't think anyone's saying that. I think we're all asking "why is the guy who did nothing wrong having his life ruined?"
Logically it doesn't make any sense.

maybe you should read the thread again, even including the OP
Similar cases, different engagement levels (wasn't ever clear if the 12-year old ever had sex but it's a good chance it was no), different "offender" and girl that obviously shouldn't be punished (even if it's just a termination of her Hot or Not account)!
Huh. Funny the judge for both have the same views, and that the guy was trying to go into the same things.
Wonder if it was at a playground as well.

Nope, it was the same exact case.

There surely must be punishments for those who say that they are over the age of consent when they're not? If not, then I bloody hope there will be soon.

What's next, we punish women who were raped while drunk? Get real.
What's next, we punish women who were raped while drunk? Get real.
These willful actions directly resulted in a crime. They should be charged with aiding and abetting statutory rape.
What's next, we punish women who were raped while drunk? Get real.
Bit of a difference between you lying about your age to get sex, which results in someone else's life being greatly fucked over because of you lying, and being raped while drunk. You need to get real to be honest.
Not saying she should get a massive punishment, just a punishment enough to absolutely drill into her that what she did was wrong and to ensure she never does it again.
What's next, we punish women who were raped while drunk? Get real.
He's not saying they should be stoned to death for lying about their age, but something needs to happen.
You fake an ID to get into a bar and get caught, you can be charged with a felony depending on where you live. Use it to buy alcohol, and your problems worsen.
But according to your logic, those punishments are fine but if we do anything to a girl who lies about her age online in order to solicit sex from unsuspecting men... its just as bad as punishing a girl for getting raped?

It's pretty clear that she's aware of that considering she's writing stuff like this:
The girl admitted lying and outside of court, she handed the Anderson family a letter. She wrote in part, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you my age. It kills me every day, knowing you are going through hell and I'm not. I want to be in trouble and not you."
There's absolutely no need to punish her.

Punishment isn't just for the person that is being punished, its also for other people who may do similar things. Otherwise how many other young girls will see what happened here, and be more willing to do what she did, possibly fucking up multiple peoples lives, because they saw she faced no punishment for her deception and fraud.

How will you punish her? I can't imagine anything that won't be excessive.

Almost all teenagers do these things out of ignorance and impulsiveness and sometimes behavioral problems, not because they planned ahead and considered the consequences of being caught. I doubt the punishment (or lack thereof) here would do anything to deter anyone or spur them on, at least not without additional education on the consequences of underage sex.
at least not without additional education on the consequences of underage sex.
Good luck educating horny teens about sex.

$500 fine.
or maybe
Hundred hours or more of community service.
or both
Ohgod that poor poor girl, her life is ruined by these horrific punishments.
Are they substantial? Maybe not. But working off $500 in fines or more will surely put a damper on birthday presents or christmas since her parents will likely foot the bill for that.
And community service? Ultimate destroyer of one's weekends and free time. State grounding from having fun with friends.
Not enough as is? Stack em. Crank the fines and crank the community service until they listen.

So you want to teach them how to hide it better? In long term that will make things only worse.
So you want to teach them how to hide it better? In long term that will make things only worse.
Natural cycle of rules and consequences. That is unavoidable. But if it deters anyone from doing this, its a start.
If your logic is seriously "don't punish them because they'll just get better at hiding it", then you're fucking delusional. Do you honestly think that nothing needs to change here for how the law handles the girl that instigated the incident?
[editline]5th August 2015[/editline]
So far, you're saying:
How will you punish her? I can't imagine anything that won't be excessive.
"Can't punish her, all punishments are excessive"
and
So you want to teach them how to hide it better? In long term that will make things only worse.
"All non-excessive punishments will make them hide it better"
and
Good luck educating horny teens about sex.
"Can't teach them that its wrong through alternative, because nobody will listen"
Which means you're saying do nothing.
Which is fucking stupid.

I don't think punishing an underage girl who can't consent for being taken advantage of is a right thing to do. Lying doesn't seem like a big enough deal for punishment.
I don't think punishing an underage girl who can't consent for being taken advantage of is a right thing to do. Lying doesn't seem like a big enough deal for punishment.
Please, explain how he took advantage of her.
I don't think punishing an underage girl who can't consent for being taken advantage of is a right thing to do. Lying doesn't seem like a big enough deal for punishment.
But she wasn't taken advantage of, she solicited sex from another teen/adult.
If she was coerced into it or raped, then maybe, but she wasn't. She wanted it. She lied. She agreed to meet.
She may not have the legal capacity to consent, being a minor and all, but she chose to do that.
The guy wasn't looking for sex from a minor, he was looking for sex from a 17 year old. Instead he got sex from a 14 year old pretending to be a 17 year old, and his life is ruined because she was horny.
What's next, we punish women who were raped while drunk? Get real.
how is punishment for lying about ones age for sex, punishment for being raped while drunk????
Please, explain how he took advantage of her.
He had sex with her after she fraudulently declared her age on a adult dating website in order to have sex, totally took advantage of her
Good news: there's a re-sentencing decision today.
Bad news: it's the same judge. http://www.wsbt.com/news/local/resentencing-decision-expected-for-elkhart-teen-on-sex-offender-registry/34548320

Why the fuck is it same judge? How is this even happening? Do people really not see the bias he has?
really?
people who lie about their ages on hotornot that end up doing this crap should be jailed. this girl single-handedly destroyed this guy's life.

Nationally, people are pissed off at this useless old fuck. And they should be. So with enough pressure from them, it would be within his best interests to show more leniency this time around. Or else be ruined politically and ostracized for the rest of his life.
Ruining this boy's life like this is stupid. This judge clearly has no business being in a public office. And then there's the fact that the girl lied in the first place; that was on her, not the boy. I really can't see any reason why the boy should be punished at all here. He literally did nothing wrong and was the victim, of a lie first and then the victim of this joke of a legal system we have.
What a massive pile of bullshit. You can't trust anybody to do right anymore, and you can't enjoy simple things without tangoing with a quagmire of legal threats.

Have a feeling the verdict will be exactly the same.

It's not a horny and impulsive 14 year old girl's fault that consent laws are fucked up, people. You're getting indignant for the wrong reasons.
Judge needs to lose his job, he's clearly biased and unable to do his job properly.
