15 percent of the people in the world thinks that the world will end in their lifetime
I wonder what causes this type of mentality. Part of me thinks it's simply human ego, wherein we think "This time, right here, is so important because it could be the last of humanity." Alternatively, this could simply be group-think led on by conspiracy nuts. Or it could be a combination.

I don't think the world will blow up or some shit, but I do believe we'll go into a global economic crisis or something like that
Why would you want to believe it? I rather not. The idea is not.
Man I remember the time when I was religious and I thought the world was going to end in 5/21/2011.
That day was FUCKING HORRIFYING for me. I felt certain that I was going to hell. Glad I'm an atheist now.
The same guy says his calculations were "off a year", so the world's gonna end 5/21/2012 now apparently.
People who think humanity's going downhill make me wish our schools taught some sort of account of the important events of the world and our nation's past so that they may gain some sort of perspective and points of reference to compare to the goings on of the present. Oh well.
I'm not a conspiracy nut but I do believe the universe could implode at any time for any reason.
That way I get to be happy when it doesn't happen, and when it does happen I can't say I wasn't expecting it.
On our current course, life is about to get much, much shittier.
But end? Hell know. Sure, the economy is barely held up by a patchwork of duck-tape and string, big and threatening idiots with nukes (Possibly Iran and North Korea), a cultural and societal downfall the likes the world has never even seen before, yeah, it's going to suck.
But it won't end. Unless the planet is totally destroyed, SOMEWHERE there will be humans, alive and well, because we are resilient, we are smart, and we can adapt to a large variety of conditions. Humanity may never die. I always remain optimistic, thinking that one day we may "rule the stars" or become some great influential power in the universe (Hell, we are already the most important known creatures [possibly the most important known entities] in the universe. We are the only species that is intelligent that we know of, and we could possibly alter the universe very drastically.) but at the same time the current signs point to a very shit future, but there's never going to be an apocalypse in my lifetime, that's for sure.
Or like Einstein said: "The war after the next will be fought with wooden sticks."
To be precise: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
