Pope Francis shits on the Prosperity Gospel: "it’s ugly, eh? That is not a Christian: that’s a pagan

Ugh didn't it even make it past the first page before someone used the term "militant atheist".
Wow, I never thought I could like a Pope so much.
this guy is too good to be true, he's probably hitler in disguise or a terminator or something
I don't think it's fair to call them "militant", over-zealous, maybe. I know the context you mean it but I don't think the Reddit stereotype is comparable to certain militant theists in the world. Maybe I'm thinking too far into it
it's just a common nickname for atheists that act overly offensive and condescending, not the literal use of the term

Stop making a big fuzz about semantics.
If you don't like the term, then just suggest me an equally recognizable and common yet descriptive and less likely to cause offense name for "intolerant asshole atheists".
I understand where he comes from. Jesus himself said that someone who prays or shows their faith in public is making a mockery of God. Prayers should be in your own homestead (or at mass, possibly, I still think he was way more for private faith rather than public) rather than trying to show it off.
He says this in chapter 6 in the gospel of Marc although I have forgot what exact verse.
The narrator sounds so flamboyant.
i love his body and facial expressions when he's talking about the snobby christians
There's no fucking way this pope is real, he's like god's self-insertion into the game he made called life.
Where does this atheist = fedora shit come from?
/pol/s christian population created the meme and spread it through the internet to incite hatred and general dislike to anyone claiming to be an Atheists or even remotely question religious values.

Considering its targeted at asshole atheists, I find this hard to believe.

Based Francis gonna physically blow up the Vatican and sell the remains to buy food for the poor next
What about the giving of gifts? Feeding the hungry, helping the poor and all that?
Christmas:
Celebrations - Saturnalia and Nordic traditions.
Feeding the hungry - compassionate humanity
Helping the poor - compassionate humanity
Santa Claus and gift-giving - Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, famous philanthropist; used in advertising from the dawn of the 20th century and finally standardized as a jolly, fat, red fellow by the Coca-Cola Co. in the 1930s.
The Christmas tree - ancient Estonian/Latvian tradition. Estonians were (still are) rather fond of their belief of the Earth, with trees holding a central, sacred position in many rituals. A fir tree was to be brought into the family abode and adorned with symbols/trinkets of fortune and fertility during the long winter to ensure good luck for the family come spring.
Christmas itself was just celebrating the birth of Christ, something quite a few people don't even put thought into these days.
Fun fact, Christmas is still called "Jul" in Sweden. Rather, we never started referring to Jul as "Christmas".
"Jõulud" in Estonia. The -ud is a plural affix though, and I'm not sure where/when/why the pluralism came in, but in singular, albeit grammatically incorrect(?) form, it would be "Jõul".
A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief.
I think I found it. But it looks more like Jesus was explaining that one shouldn't limit ministry in one's home or hometown, because your own people may label you as an outcast for what you teach/believe in, Jesus wasn't even welcomed back in his hometown when he began his ministry.
And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
Uhh, that's 'Jesus'.
But in all seriousness, I am actually starting to like this pope. Im not catholic but this pope actually is starting to go away from the farce that we today call modern christianity. What? Prosperity gospel isn't good? If only we had some sort of book that could help us discern these things.

a lot of them literally are made up though. the formula goes
1) get a picture of a generally unfortunate looking man
2) slap quote mentioning hate of religion, professed love of atheism and Carl Sagan/Bill Nye/Black Science Man on there.
while the meme crystallised around a core of truth (I'm pretty sure "faces of atheism" was indeed a thing on r/atheism for a period of about 3-4 days), the one in the thread mentions Darwin, Carl Sagan, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Reddit and fucking World of Warcraft. are you seriously telling me you think that's a real earnest quote by the guy in the picture?

in fact, a quick google tells me this one is marked "fake" in the cringepics subreddit.

It's not really semantics. You're using a term normally reserved for people who are going out and making lives hell, causing actual damage and being general shitlords to describe intolerant assholes (hey, that works pretty well as a description doesn't it?) making noises on the Internet.
The term "militant atheist" is fucking retarded and people need to stop using it. You can't be militant about a belief in nothing, you can be a intolerant asshole to people with belief in something.

They are entirely militant. Ironically, the fervor with which they attack religion and push for its destruction is at times worse than religious extremism.

I think you have no idea what "militant" means.

When redditors start firebombing churches in the name of atheism then you can throw that term around with some legitimacy.

No, there's a different passage where Jesus actually states to pray alone in your home with the door short instead of publicly in the synagogue.

Atheists have been treated like shit for the best part of human history and until the 20th century in most countries they were unable to hold any kind of office in government or a political position.
Since when has a few socially awkward neckbeards gone that far? The fact they have no political power of any kind already destroys your argument.

What. this is entirely untrue.
im noticing a pattern in your posts, and i have to ask man, why do you hate atheists so much?

Atheists weren't really persecuted for a lack of religion, but more due to them not agreeing with the religion of whatever region they were in.
e.g. An atheist in an Islamic region would be just as persecuted just as much as a Christian in that region.
Considering its targeted at asshole atheists, I find this hard to believe.
Mention atheism or that you're an atheist anymore on this forum (which ironically is predominately atheist), even if it's in an entirely passive way, and you're bound to get at least one person making a "fedora wearing neckbeard atheist haha", or "i put on my fedora and stroke my neckbeard" joke. They aren't funny anymore and honestly never were. This whole self-loathing atheist trend is ridiculous.

No?
During the Early modern period, the term "atheist" was used as an insult and applied to a broad range of people, including those who held opposing theological beliefs, as well as suicides, immoral or self-indulgent people, and even opponents of the belief in witchcraft.[3][4][8] Atheistic beliefs were seen as threatening to order and society by philosophers such as Thomas Aquinas. Lawyer and scholar Thomas More said that religious tolerance should be extended to all except those who did not believe in a deity or the immortality of the soul.[6]
