Nintendo 3DS Classic
By isolating existing 3DS owners from what amounts to be a proprietary Twitter, they're just guaranteeing that the Miiverse page for Smash 3DS is a secondary gathering point and they're giving over control to the internet to lead the way.
I thought Nintendo wanted people to use Miiverse. There can't even be a thing where Smash registers the screenshots with it so you can post them from the app after returning from the game to the OS? I don't have any use for a Miiverse game channel if I'm able to read it but not post content from the game it's for even if I own the game.
I don't care about reading Miiverse or using the web browser from within the game, but way to ensure that the number one host for Smash 3DS screenshots is imgur, not Miiverse.
someone may have already stated it but smash 4 on all of the current 3ds models ends up taking a ton of system resources and you cant use the internet browser or miiverse while playing the game
the game does in fact require a reboot of the os when you close out of it
i cant tell if people are genuinely outraged over the loss of miiverse, though. it's not really a big deal?
i mean, if you want to take screenshots, the game has it's own screenshot feature. you can just upload everything later, really.
It is mostly how fucked up it is that Nintendo is doing it. I like sharing my Mario Kart 8 shit and I would be irritated if I had to buy the New Wii U to do it. They are STILL coming up with new 3DS designs and bundles and pushing them out even though they're going to be obsolete almost immediately afterwards.
This isn't some trick to get people to buy New 3DS systems, it's just because the game uses more memory than any other 3DS game, and nothing else can run at the same time. When you close the game, the system restarts to set things back to normal.
Yeah, and the N3DS has double the ram, so of course it'd work on the N3DS.
People are whining about literally nothing.

They're shoving in more RAM and adding some buttons and selling it as a new handheld. It's not worth $300 or whatever the thing's MSRP will be unless they offer a trade-in program.

I think the price is ~$200. Trading in your current 3DS to upgrade will also cut into the cost so it's not that bad. Plus I think the processor is faster too, so wouldn't your current 3DS games load faster on the new console?

Way to not read the thread
People care about Miiverse? I thought it was just a place for little kids to go on and spam random crap.

People care about anything being "taken away"

It costs the same as a normal XL or whatever. Stop trying to dramatize something that really doesn't matter. I'd rather have 51 characters, assload of music and stages, and a ton of modes then miiverse

I read that. Way to misunderstand someone's argument and then call them out on it.
If you can upload screenshots from the 3DS to Miiverse from the Miiverse app after exiting Smash and the OS restoring itself, then I don't have any complaints. However the impression I have from reading the thread is that if you don't have a New 3DS, your only option is to pull out the SD card and plug it into a computer to dump them there and upload later. If I have to use a PC to upload them to Miiverse then I might as well upload them to Imgur or something else and share them with the whole Internet directly instead of participating in Miiverse's walled garden.
Why is this such a big issue? The only thing this'll cause as far as I know is that you won't be able to upload screenshots into Miiverse while playing; you'll be able to upload Sm4sh-related drawings and posts (and maybe even screencaps taken in-game before) in any other situation. And I don't think this is the kind of game that'll need you checking a guide/walkthrough or making notes anyway.

there's places you can upload images through the browser
such as http://www.webrender.net/imgur/
I really, really doubt it'll be called "New 3DS" in the west. In Japan the name isn't a problem because it's not in Japanese so it's obvious if you're talking about a new 3DS or a New 3DS.
In the west, probably 3DSi or something
I just hate how people are excusing this. The hardware was archaic for 2011 standards and now that they're three years into a typically 6 year long hardware generation, they regret it.
Edit: Don't box me. Everyone was calling me stupid when I complained about it two weeks ago.
Guys it is a new console, it's more powerful.
In the age of ultra powerful smartphones everywhere that people upgrade all the time, more frequent handheld console releases are needed, just look at how bad 3DS sales dropped recently.
every time nintendo does something cool they manage to fuck it up somehow
fuck you for making features for your most anticipated game only available on a shitty, updated version of the console

Wouldn't you miss out on a system transfer, then?
problem with new model, nobody will want to make games exclusively and fully utilizing the powers of the new model because making games for the old model will be playable on both old and new model, you're walling of a lot of customers otherwise.
The exact thing can be said for DS->3DS because of backwards compatability.

More like DS -> DSi
It had more memory but there were very few games made exclusively for the DSi

No I'm pretty sure it will, it's what Apple did with "the new iPad", and Nintendo has always kinda tried to have the proprietary pseudo-Appple white product experience.

The New 3DS has a better ARM CPU and the much wanted 2nd analog nub, it's really a new console.
I don't understand why people are upset about this.
You can still use Miiverse when you're not running the game, right?
And the game has a screenshot feature, so what exactly is the issue?

It's absolutely not new, in the sense of GameBoy -> GBA -> DS. AFAIK, the software is 90% identical, and that last 10% is just leaving room for error. It's the GBASP to the GBA; the DSi to the DS. Hell, the DSi already had a notibly different OS. The menu was much more akin to what the 3DS is, now.
If you don't consider the DSi a new console when compared to the DS, the New 3DS certainly isn't, either.

Because initially, it seemed like an intentional implimentation, rather than an unavoidable one.

Have you not seen the Xenoblade port to New 3DS? That is not something the normal 3DS can do.
there's places you can upload images through the browser

The point I'm talking about is uploading from an older 3DS and it going to Miiverse.
Uploading to the Internet, there's a billion ways to accomplish that, that's not a problem.
I'm glad we can all agree the stupid thing here is the name of the N3DS (and even then they might change the name of it in the west). The fact that miiverse won't run on regular 3DSes can be explained by how resource intensive sm4sh3D is, and it's hard to argue against that. Personally it's not much of a loss (considering we can get them off the sd card), but I can understand why people could find it bullshit.
Wouldn't you miss out on a system transfer, then?
True, but my local gamestore will let you do the transfer in the store when you buy the new console and trade in your old at the same time.
True, but my local gamestore will let you do the transfer in the store when you buy the new console and trade in your old at the same time.
Don't you have to transfer everything individually? I know DS > 3DS I had to do shit one at a time.
Have you not seen the Xenoblade port to New 3DS? That is not something the normal 3DS can do.
Donkey Kong 64 and Majora's Mask are things that the regular N64 couldn't do. GBC is also a funky scenario, where some games require the GBC's improved CPU, but some games marketed as a GBC can run just fine on a regular GB, albeit without colour.
It's within the 3DS family, just a bit more powerful. You can call it a new console, sure; but then don't think the DSi isn't.

I didn't even know there was a DS -> 3DS system transfer. AFAIK, you just go into the options, and select "system transfer," and I'd assume it just transfers it all from one 3DS to the next.
