This is simply unfathomable, even to an intellectual such as myself. To see such a beautiful work of literature portrayed in such a childish form, it summons abyssal demons from the depths of ancient worlds the likes no member of our doomed species can imagine. But, it was simply a tribute, apparently, so there is no need to discuss this further.
Lovecraft didn't think he was a good writer.
Lovecraft didn't think he was a good writer.
All the good ones don't. Also, I don't think Lovecraft's racism (I saw it argued earlier, going to add my 2 cents) wasn't that bad of a thing for him, in fact dare I say it, I think it made his writing better. Asimov wrote some of the greatest sci-fi works of the modern age because his publisher was a raging racist anti-semite who refused anything with aliens in it.

And in The Rats in the Walls the cat was named Nigger Man. [editline]03:00AM[/editline]
Lovecraft didn't think he was a good writer.
He also thought dreams were just as good as reality since both are nothing more than pictures and stimuli played out in your brain. And he was right, in a way.
But Pebble in the Sky was precisely about how racism is bad. And in The Rats in the Walls the cat was named Nigger Man.
And The Currents of Space was a thinly veiled allusion to the ante bellum South, but with the dark skinned people as the "slave holders" and the light skinned people the slaves. The thing that ultimately changed Asimov's novels was the complete lack of aliens, I think he had enough leverage with his publisher to let a lot of his stuff through, but I doubt he'd have ever let him to write about other alien civilizations.
And in The Rats in the Walls the cat was named Nigger Man.
Up until a few decades ago almost all black dogs were called Nigger.
A bit of a mini-bump,but I've figured out the real reason why everyone hates having characters anthromorphisized by Japan. Not because of it "taking it so far away from the base content" or "making it too cute to portray the character" but this:It removes the originality of the character and replaces it with a character that's more generic than...well,alot of very generic things.Look at Cthulhu and you have an interesting, scary and overall cool character that we can relate to.However,in this bastardization of this great set of characters,he's a goddamn teacher. Not a dark, sleeping, mysterious, possibly undead demon god from space, but a boring little teacher who's just a normal demon in disguise. He's probably the perverted, old kind we see way too often in manga and anime. And look at the main character.LOOK AT HER.In Lovecraft's books,he was a shape-shifting Great Old One "with a thousand faces".Sounds cool, right?Well, now they made him into a STUPID,OVER-SEXED,HYPER-GENERIC GIRL WITH MAGICAL POWERS WHO FIGHTS ALIENS.Not a dark god who would lead people to follow him for unknown yet most likely evil purposes, but a girl(who's meant to be cute and lovable but I've never found a character that has been labelled as "moe" that's actually either of those) who fights aliens with some probably geeky guy who almost surely looks the same as every male main character in every manga or anime ever.Tl;DR,they basically took a well-designed and delicious cake and turned it into a generic vanilla muffin. that metaphor was epic amirite Edit:D'oh,it wasn't Cthulhu they made into the teacher,it was Yog-Sogoth.Sorry about that. Edit 2:Also,they probably aren't just using the name. Heh,Cthulhu's catchphrase(i know they aren't catchphrases but they're still closely associated with him):"FTAGHN FTAGHN CTHULHU FTAGHN" or "that which is deep can eternal lie howevere it goes" Now,Nyarlathotep's new catchphrase will probably be along the lines of "GO GO MUSHIMARO NYARUKO-SAAAAAAAAN"
If you can relate to Cthulhu then you have problems bro.
Yeah,I used the wrong term...When I meant I could relate to him,I meant as in "I can compare him to other evil sleeping space demon gods very well". JUST KIDDING I'M A SPACE DEMON GOD TOO
