Wow are people seriously bitching about this
it's money they took from drug dealers
They're the same people who think that every branch of the Government is infinitely evil.
The only problem I can see with this if some enterprising police department starts to conjure up trumped up charges for loot and plunder a'la Marcus Licinius Crassus. Probably won't happen though. Maybe.
I don't think anybody could logically be upset about the government seizing drug cartels assets
A North Carolina man and his girlfriend got a crash course in federal asset forfeiture in 2010 when Jefferson police stopped his vehicle on I-85 heading into Atlanta. The officers — who patrol a 2.5-mile section of the highway in Jackson County and often encounter drug smugglers — found $22,055 in the woman's purse. The couple said they were going to use it to buy a tractor-trailer in Atlanta.
Police doubted the story since the driver gave a series of inconsistent statements about how much money he had and what he was carrying it for. He also professed to be unemployed and had a prior drug-related conviction. So the officers seized the cash and worked with the DEA to require the man and woman to forfeit it, even though neither was charged with any crime.
The man's attorney, Careton Matthews, eventually negotiated a settlement in which his client got $9,000 back after providing proof he'd gotten the money in an insurance settlement. The woman recouped $6,000. The federal government and the city of Jefferson kept the remaining $7,000 under the agreement.
Things turned out better for his client than for most other people, Matthews said.
"It normally turns out that [the government] gets to keep it all, or they keep 75 or 80 percent," he said.
But stuff like this should be concerning, they don't have to arrest you or charge you with a crime to seize assets. Over here we had cases where some police officers were getting bad warrants made up to harass their ex's new partners, etc. police shouldn't have the power to just arbitrarily act against people without evidence.
I wonder what they do with the seized drugs.
21 Jump Street.
It amazes me people don't think legalization wont lead to more people using. If cigarettes where illegal in the U.S I highly doubt you would have over 40 million people in the U.S smoking.
Also the idea that drug use doesn't hurt anyone else but the user is bullshit. Addictions to drugs and alcohol hurt families everyday. Yes, we already have legal products in society that do this but legalizing another highly addictive substance is just stupid.

Those are State Police/Marshals. Also, that picture is probably out of context, and the filename is a gut-buster.

Burn them, they're literally incinerated to be destroyed.
In all fairness, it's kinda fair.
They don't get that much money since governments cutting funding.
Lots of PD's are getting closed since they can't give a payroll.
Atleast this makes police not take bribes and get them to do work.

what
it doesn't go to the officers themselves, it goes to the forces, what's bribery got to do with anything

They don't, Its called PC they have to explain why they did something, and the reasoning behind it.
They have to bring it before a judge for warrants, then a judge has to read it and if they like it or see it as a proper warrant they sign it. There are checks and balances, people can't just make shit up. Normally when things like that do happen it is because one or more people in the process are lazy.

Because no one talks about public safety any more, people don't want to pay a few extra dollars in taxes. Instead they would rather have some of the most important institution have budget cuts. Then they have the audacity to bitch and moan that law enforcement is useless because they can't do the same amount of work or more on a smaller budget.

Hey chief, ready to "incinerate" some of this marijuana? Heh heh heh...
This could be good and bad.
What if they decided to just go for the cases in which they can earn the most money?
Anyone who doesn't see anything wrong with this is a moron.

Than, what exactly, is wrong with it?

Gee, I don't know, giving the state an interest in continued criminalization? Also this is robbing the wealth from us producers/consumers and wasting it on strengthening the state, which will only oppress us further in this nasty cycle.
But hurr durr as long as its robbing one section of the market I don't like.

That's what you get for being stupid enough to get caught dealing drugs.
Still waiting for a counter-argument or for some to realize the war on drugs is a war on the poor. Can't seem to understand either why having self-perpetuating laws that contradict the people doesn't qualify as oppressive to some.

War on the poor? really?
This thread reminds me why liberals can suck hard.

Video game addiction hurts families everyday. It is also more harmful than marijuana. So why aren't violent video games banned by the law?
Also, I would like to see evidence that usage will increase or decrease if legalized. IIRC alcohol use skyrocketed during prohibition, so that might be an indicator of other drugs.

Portugal had a 10% drop in drug use after decriminalizing every drug.

waste of money
Why is it that people who I disagree on about pretty much everything are the reasonable ones when it comes with drugs?
BTW, LSD is so fucking evil that tripping on it helped imagine the Double Helix . BAN THAT SHIT YO.
I see nothing wrong with this. Police get more equipment to do their job and as a taxpayer I don't have to pay for it. Win win.

Im in favor of legalization of marijuana for the record. Video game addiction doesn't come close to the number of families victimized by hard drug addiction.
Sweden's usage shrunk when stricter laws where passed regarding drug usage.

I hope you know the money gained goes to the whole police force as a whole, not just drug enforcement.
They do. Sell some pot, or some meth, or some cocaine? The police can come and steal your money from you, even though selling drugs is in itself not wrong in any way.
The reason police arrest you for possession of drugs is because the majority of them can cause serious health issues and addiction.
Oh god what is going on this thread

If both of us can back our claims with numbers, doesn't that imply that it's possible the effect legality has on drug use is negligible?

So they will throw me into a prison or jail which can cause health issues and psychological problems, so that they can protect me from a chemical that can cause health issues and addiction?
By the way, I don't need the police to be my babysitter. I can make up my own mind on drug use, thank you very much.

I don't see how this doesn't go against the whole American freedom thing.
They whine about getting improved healthcare but apparently this is just fine because it's paid for with blood money.

If you want to do and sell hard drugs, I'm not stopping you, just saying that it's not good for you, or other people.
