Yeah, I got a little burned by the MGSV. It was a fun game but not great which I expected from the one that bears "Game by Hideo Kojima" title. Possibly overhyped myself but eh, whatever. Let's wait for actual gameplay.
Also my girlfriend got it for free with her gaming laptop, so neither of us feel like "I SPENT $60 ON THIS"
I guess I liked it a lot better from the perspective of having never played a Metal Gear game before, so I don't have other Metal Gear stories to compare it to. I really like the atmosphere, especially with it taking place in part in Afghanistan during the Soviet Occupation, which is a time period I'm interested in historically as well as one I think is underrepresented in action games.
I highly recommend Metal Gear Solid 1-3. They're honestly my favorite games in the series and they're just classics. MGS3 controls way worse than V but has similar gameplay systems and probably some of the best storytelling in gaming period. MGS4 feels too much like fan service and the underlying self hatred is pretty obvious. I played them all in the HD Collection except for MGS1 emulated.
I'd still blame Konami for the budget. If he was wasting resources then Konami should have jumped in to dial him back but they didn't because, evidently after their recent actions, they have no clue what they're doing.
No vampires No way
3 years almost from announcement to release and to be honest, little content. It's hard to believe that all they could do was a lifeless world, poor missions and possibly the worst MGS game ever. Can't just blame Konami, they're weren't the ones making the game but at the same time it's their money and they should have probably done something about Kojima sooner than later as he seems a bit full of himself. I was extremely disappointed with MGS5 and I wasn't even hyped. I was a bit dubious but decided to purchase and felt forced to complete the game just in case it could redeem itself. It couldn't and only got worse. I'll most definitely wait for streams and lets plays of any future Kojima game because MGS5 was a disaster for me personally.
Also, it's unrealistic to blame Konami alone for this one:
I think the whole Quiet being half naked thing would have been better if Kojima was honest and just said "I like hot half naked chicks with guns." Because the canonical reason why she's in such skimpy stuff seems like a real stretch.
I think you guys are forgetting that Kojima squandered a lot of time and resources on the wrong things with phantom pain. I don't think Konami rushed it out as much as they realized 6/7 months from release how badly mismanaged this game was and how incomplete it was. They got kojima out of there and tried to patch it up, but the game was incredibly unfulfilling as an MGS game. From the standpoint of just dropped features, things like the burning man wrapped up in a dumb way, and an ending that is just plain missing, it sucks to experience that. It had fun gameplay but it did not work with the story they were trying to tell and ultimately it left me, someone who has played every game in the series repeatedly, extremely disappointed where i don't think I'll ever want to touch it again. I sure as hell think anything directed and primarily created by kojima without a lot of other creative control from others will take a lot of convincing to get me to get excited about it.
Scrolling through and saw the video of female rain dancing. Out of cobntect it looks like a jack off break for the players. Hot or not Games should be fun. I'd feel out od place if I ran into that while LP with pals.

I love how angry and invested everyone gets. :v:
Gameplay was good, story was alright but fell apart during the second chapter, mainly because of the ending imo, the map was barren outside of the enemy bases, and even then they didn't really change all that much throughout the game, and later on the game became nothing but a repetitive grind.
I'd like to add that the second chapter was barely existent, like, the trailer at the start of it promised so much it just couldn't deliver. The final twist was something that most fans saw coming even after the first trailer of the game got published, and the game didn't build up to it. It just comes out of nowhere. That's not saying that the game didn't have its fantastic moments. The "Shining Lights, Even In Death" mission was completely gut-wrenching. The game made me actually feel the responsibility of men and women putting their lives into my hands. "We live and die by your orders, boss!" It was after this mission that I just sat in my chair and felt... devastated... "I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. I will always be with you. Plant your roots in me. I won't see you end as ashes. You're all diamonds." And I wanted more of this. Sadly, there wasn't any.
It doesn't help that the prelaunch trailers essentially had every cutscene in the game in them.
It doesn't help that the prelaunch trailers essentially had every cutscene in the game in them.
As well as a couple of bonus cutscenes that wasn't in the game.
Not this time Hideo. I fell for Phantom Pain.
Blaming Hideo for whatever issues TPP had? You serious? [editline]11th May 2016[/editline]
You must be absolutely delusional and have a shit perception of reality to claim it's KONAMI ALONE.
In my experience its usually the jackasses talking like this who are delusional and have shit perseption. Everything you're bitching at is either your arrogant opinions, shit that happens across the gaming indusrty, Konamis issue. Calm your shit down.
While I do adore Kojima to death and he is the creator of my most favorite games franchise EVARRR... I do have my suspicions that he suffers from Tim Schafer syndrome.
No vampires No way
It doesn't seem out of place for him to return to that vampire fighter idea he explored in MGS3.
So you saw 5 in the title and thought "Yes this is the point were I jump into the series"? :v:
Girlfriend got it for free with a laptop. Honestly had no interest in the series whatsoever so I probably would've never played it if she didn't
While I do adore Kojima to death and he is the creator of my most favorite games franchise EVARRR... I do have my suspicions that he suffers from Tim Schafer syndrome.
Woah there, he's made mistakes but let's not go overboard
Woah there, he's made mistakes but let's not go overboard
To be fair, that is what it sounds like. He can still make a decent game, and even with all of its flaws, I still think TPP was one of the best games I played last year. If he had some people to rein him in and he delivered a better game for it, then by all means, let him be reined in.
I fucking love the Phantom Pain so far. I'm about half-way through and so far it's pretty thrilling. I do wish Venom had more character though, but he is a very menacing and strong presence on the screen. I feel like Kojima took the whole "MGS4 had way too many cutscenes" comments too much to heart and went the exact opposite route with mainly gameplay and very few cutscenes and dialogue. Which is almost just as bad in some ways. Still an excellent game so far though. I also wish there were more missions where you have to defend mother base. It's such a huge fucking place, it feels like quite a few people would want it destroyed and it can't be that hard to find. I also find it really weird that if you play as a different character everyone still calls you "boss". I think there are story implications to that but I wouldn't be surprised if it were just some kind of general oversight. Either way it kind of bothers me how lazy it feels.
I fucking love the Phantom Pain so far. I'm about half-way through and so far it's pretty thrilling.
And it goes downhill from there. Everything after Chapter 1 was a drag
The Phantom Pain was strange in that the actual gameplay mechanica were heaps of fun, but the boring open world and lack of interesting story ruined it. If the game played in small open instances like Ground Zeroes did I think I would'v actually enjoyed the game.
