Microsoft working on their own VR goggles for the Xbox One, to face off with Sony's Morpheus and the

I could see the return of VirtualBoy, and to give it that Nintendo creative edge it will come with a new version of the powerglove.
Also, here's something to note:
If the Note 4 phablet can handle (the previously mentioned low graphics VR) at 1440p 60fps using the GearVR addon, why couldn't the Xbox One do it with slightly better graphics?
we all know it's a matter of the content developers optimizing their shit instead of slathering on more unnecessary VFX and overbearing model definition. Early 360 games had iffy performance and looked like garbage compared to a lot of recent 360 titles, because aside generally learning to harness the tech better over time, people got out of the puppy love stage with trying to push being super over-the-top to prove the new tech was ~next gen~
people who develop content with a VR device in mind sure as hell better understand why VR works and what's gimmicky sea sickness inducing trash before trying to put it to market

Watch the new powerglove be an oven mitt with a kinect 2.0 strapped to it. :v:
Well the fact that monster companies picked up on the trend means that this time VR is gonna stay a while. Whether it's good or not time will show.
They might just use a 1440p or higher screen but render it at 1080p. Remember that in VR, even low graphics can create strong immersion/presence. So there will be tons of titles that aren't Call of Duty or Halo 4 levels of eye candy, yet are more immersive because they can be rendered at 1080p/60fps VR (or higher, nobody knows what they settled on yet).
Having a high resolution screen will make the screen door + pixel effect disappear even if it's rendered at just 1080p.
Speaking of designers, the people working on the headset's design are the same guys who designed the Surface tablet.

They did.
It's called the wiimote
In theory, they might be able to use the Kinect along with this and do something really cool.
Yeah, you can argue about whether or not Microsoft handled the Xbone/Kinect issue well or not, but you can't deny that the Kinect is a damn cool piece of hardware
The fact that Sony and now Microsoft are doing VR goggles means that people are gonna take VR more seriously. Competition is great.
These will probably be shitty.
A weapon to surpass metal gear, KINECT VR!
I'm not sure if VR is ready for console audiences yet. Actually, let me rephrase that, I'm not sure if consoles are ready for VR. After using the DK2 a little bit, while it was really cool there were some major issues like resolution and FPS drops being way more noticeable than on a regular monitor. PCs can make up for it in pure power but we're going to be stuck with this generation of consoles for a while and I don't know if they are good enough to provide VR at a standard that the general consumer is used to. The AAA devs can barely make games that run at a solid 60fps in 1080p, that's just not good enough. I've got a bad feeling that the console VR headsets are going to be received badly, make VR seem like a gimmick and take Oculus down with them.
Will it be locked to 720p @ 30FPS?
They will say it's that.
But it will actually be locked to 144p @ 15fps
[editline]20th December 2014[/editline]
And they will blame it on limited technology.

This is one scary thought - because it sounds so plausible.

Oh god, just when I almost forgot about that useless pile of shit...
