But there was no chance of foul play?
"I am superior human because I do not lean over rails to get a foul ball at a Major League Baseball game when I am very excited"
You are an embarrassment
Yes, not trying to off myself is embarrassing alright.
Oh jesus, I would hate to be the son of that guy...
You would be remembered for the rest of your life as "the son of the dude who tried to catch a ball and died" and no matter how smart your dad would of been he would always be remembered as a retard
Really? How about the fact that his father died? You just don't want to be associated with a perceived idiot?

Maybe his dad isn't really dead.
It's a cover up!

As much as I hate to say it, i can't see in the video where he falls. Does one of the guys catch the foul and then throw it into the stands?

The rail was greased, god damnit!

Watch another one of them
tried too hard to impress the entire audience by catching the foul ball.
This is what America has come to:
There are railings to keep people from falling to their death. The railing is so effective, the only way you can fall over it and die is if you actually deliberately stretch your body far out over the railing, which this guy did(I saw the video).
So the solution is not "Use this video to remind the idiots to stay behind the railings", it's "Let's put nets on the other side to catch people too stupid to keep from going over the side".
Look at him, the dummy is STILL holding the ball! It's not like he could use his hands right now is it?

you guys don't understand baseball at all
That's really sad to read.
There goes my day.
twenty feet? He died from a fall that low?
I've fallen farther than that uninjured. Must've landed on his head. :v:

probably
if you watch the video you can see that he falls head first

You can die if you fall 10, maybe even 5 feet the right way, its all a matter of how your body moves... I suppose. With the right luck, you can survive 70 feet (Obviously ideal conditions), if not more, with bad luck, you could die at 5 feet.

a human neck is delightfully frail and vulnerable.
Poor man
I feel for his son
Or bin Laden.
Or Obama!
Wait what were we talking about again
Also, the bouncy-castle idea is necessary. It should be a law that any baseball field- no, any stadium- no, anywhere with railing, must have a pile or row of bouncy castles at the bottom.
Think of the children.

I suppose you're the kind of person who finds out the specifics of a car crash and says something like "Wow the driver was an idiot they were still trying to steer as it flew outta control they deserved to die!" and idolizes the Darwin Awards.
It is YOU people, including this asshole, who are undeserving of life in our society. You are the people who are stupid enough to think one-time accidents make a person "unworthy of the gene pool", thinking in some way you are superior, immune to making mistakes.
The Darwin Awards and all similar mentalities are the true insult to humanity, a mindset completely ignorant to the fact mistakes are normal.
I swear I saw an "award" on there that was making fun of some teacher who got her head blown off by looking down a manhole filled with explosive chemicals. She had no idea what was in the manhole, and she just looked in curiously. How does that make it right to say she deserves to be removed from the gene pool?

Accidents are accidents, dude. Nobody is dumb because they get into one.
Also the stadium must be poorly designed or something, as the news article says this isn't the first time something of this nature has happened.

You'd think they would put nets up, I thought you were supposed to for public places where there is a drop
The visitor's bullpen at the stadium is in left-centre field. Athletics reliever Brad Zeigler was in tears after the game when he found out the man had died.
"They had him on a stretcher. He said, 'Please check on my son. My son was up there by himself.' The people who carried him out reassured him. 'Sir, we'll get your son, we'll make sure he's OK,"' Ziegler said. "He had his arms swinging. He talked and was conscious. We assumed he was OK. But when you find out he's not, it's just tough."
Now it's even sadder.
Fuck... This reminds me of all the times my dad, and older brother would try too catch baseballs at the local ball park in Buffalo... Makes me feel bad right now. Hopefully this gives the MBL some guidance too add some higher railings, and some form of soft material behinde those areas.

That's a dick thing to say.
Basically you're saying the worst thing that happened to the kid was his father embarrassed him, while in reality the worst thing that happened was that his father died.
I said nothing about Darwin in my previous post.
Let's talk facts. If that guy had fallen 3 feet and just bonked his head, everyone would be laughing at his dumbass. In fact that's why the announcers were laughing about it because that's exactly what they thought happened.
But because he dies in front of his kid suddenly he's not a dumbass?
Sure it's an accident, he didn't mean to commit suicide. But damn, people are making it sound like the ballpark is a deathtrap. Random people aren't just falling over the side for no reason. These people are doing risky behaviors that include misusing the safety equipment(in this case the railing).
You can die from simply falling to the ground. Liam Neeson's wife died from a simple fall from a standing position, no extra height off the ground required.

it's pretty pathetic how little empathy and respect you have
Talk about a home run.
He wanted the ball so much it'll probably be at his wake.
