Creationist teachers hijacking science teaching in Australia

Back to the original topic, I'm okay with religious things taught to kids who want to learn religious things, but stupid stuff like that shouldn't be allowed -OH WAIT, here comes a cool and edgy atheist teenager who holds a grudge on religion and replies with "Yeah, stupid shit like the Bible", then a flamewar arises.
Why do people whine at many religious people not being open minded if they are just as close minded to any intelligent conversation about the matter.
And I respect the above intelligent post. Of course, I do not require you to agree with the Bible philosophically. It's a belief, and I believe in it. End of story.
Exactly
and the story of the Odin striking down the giant and the world being made of the giant's corpse is just an allegory for astrophysics and the accumulation of matter into planetoid objects
and Yggdrasil = a metaphor for secular humanism
I love how the Firefox spell checker doesn't flag Yggdrasil
norse mythology is badass

obviously hermione in Harry Potter is a metaphor for the mistreatment of the lower class.
I like how you don't even deny what I'm saying because you know it exists in the bible. You just whine incessantly as if it somehow make the children torn by bears go away.
And I don't think I've ever in my life heard an atheist call a religious person close minded. I'm pretty damn sure it's the other way around.
I already pointed out that the New Testatement made most of the content of the Old testatement void (Thus why it's the new testatement), and everything you mention is in the Old Testatement. I just didn't feel the need to repeat myself. :v:
well no you see it was metaphorical
christ died for our sins metaphorically
in reality Rome just told him to piss off so he went to florida and built a condo. Wait, no, that's mormonism. Anyway, it was a metaphor, I assure you.
But in that case, he was resurrected in 3 days metaphorically as well? There is no way that can be used as some sort of Metaphor.
And if you don't think Jesus died and was resurrected, you're not Catholic. Nowadays you can apparently believe and not believe in the stories of the bible at the same time.

Sadly, this
Oh and I like how someone always comes in and says "YOU GUYS STOP THE SHITSTORM" when everyone is having a nice civilized discussion on the effects of religion on society.

The Three Little Pigs is about the housing crisis

the movie "Teeth" is about why you should never trust women

That guy's usually late to the argument, doesn't read the remainder of the thread, and starts up the shitstorm again (Probably getting banned in the process)
The ten commandments are Old testament. The new testament is just an adaptation to a changing culture. Cherry picked the good shit, leave the primal shit behind.
Let's see, ten commandments, check, slavery right next to the ten commandments, no.
Gays should die? I'll put that down as 'maybe'.

You can stone gays and adulterous women but if you even think about wearing mixed fabric clothes or eating shellfish you will go to hell.
If anyone is wondering about how I know about the bible and such, I was cared for by my Evangelical aunt who has a picture of Christ every 1 foot in her house. I had bible study in church 1-2 hours a day and more on the weekends. When I finished reading the bible and I questioned her about some of Jesus and Yahweh (yes I know they are the "same") actions, she slapped me across the face. My parents were very angry to say the least.

You hit the nail on the head.
He's not saying it cherry picked the good shit, he's saying you are. And you are. And you have yet to say why beyond the equivalent of "because".
Not I did. The Church did. And the people.
School is no place for religion.

Maybe in mythology study.
"Religious Education" in Australia is supposed to be mythology study. These fuckers are just using it to spread creationism
New research shows three in 10 Australians believe dinosaurs and man did exist at the same time. The survey, by the Federation of Australian Scientific and Technological Societies, shows a "worrying" lack of basic scientific principles.
3 in 10 Australians? More like 3 in 10 stupid bogans. Don't let this article fool you. Australians aren't that stupid.
My (public) school has books about the big bang and evolution. A friend of mine who goes to a Methodist school says that Religious Instruction in her school is learning about different religions, not being taught about one religion and being told it's true.

I still don't understand this part. Are shellfish considered demonic or something? Like, take in this "demon" and you will become like it? Like, that stupid saying "If you say "Devil" he'll get in your body and you'll become him!"
Yeah, but the problem is, while the New Testament was a less-primal and less-batshit-insane version of the Old Testament, that's where it stopped.
I'm waiting for someone to do like in Dune and make a new Bible adapting it to today's world or something, leaving behind whatever retarded bullshit remains.
In my RE class we don't learn this creationism shit.I am Catholic BTW.We learn about other religions and what Jesus taught us. Even if he isn't real we still learn about good morals and stuff, not force feeding us information God is real. I personally believe in God, and someone quotes me telling me I am a idiot or God isn't real. You are the same as a Mormon, forcing your beliefs upon others.
When I saw the thread title I said, "What the fuck? How could this even happen?"
Then I saw it was in Queensland.

There's probably some type of explanation for it but damned if I know. If I had to pull an answer out of my ass I'd say that it's because people back then didn't know how to cook seafood properly and people were getting sick from it.
Does the bible actually explain this OR the shirt thing?
What the hell Zeketwo, eating shellfish makes you go to hell? I was never taught that shit.
You couldn't eat PORK not shellfish.
But if i have missed something i agree with Zeke answer.
What the hell Zeketwo, eating shellfish makes you go to hell? I was never taught that shit.
It's in the bible.
