• Facebook adding new gender options, preferred pronoun choices for users
This is pretty groovy. I took a look at it, and aside from being able to make your own, they have a huge list of genders and variants on all of those, and they account for pretty much every single possible gender term already (hell they have terms that even I don't know) and the pronoun selection is pretty great too. This is about as accommodating as it can get. Hope more websites follow in line. Maybe next we could advance the sexuality settings? [editline]e[/editline] well, my mistake, you can't make your own. Kind of disappointing, but at the same time, at least it will prevent abuse by shitheads going YEAH WELL IF THEY CAN BE A GIRL I CAN BE A GEODUDE
Check your normal-type privilege
How can there even be 50 different options? At that point you might as well get rid of the options and just let the user enter the text they want.
it won't let me save
I'm glad they killed this shit before it began.
Well, this is nice for when I start trying to come out on facebook. Lets me kinda ease people into things while weeding out the asshats.
Why is this image so funny to me? :v:
What does the * mean?
I'm gonna wait until I see what the most "agree"d posts in this thread are before I decide my opinion on this
well that person seems to have the mental faculties of one so I'm sure you can join him if you want
Shit, Zeke, watch out, I didn't put my heatshield up, nearly burned my eyebrows off. What a shame you couldn't deliver it right to the original poster, best burn I have seen so far this year.
What does the * mean?
It's a pointer to Trans.
What does the * mean?
I'm most likely wrong, but it refers to people who haven't went through a full transition yet.
Why is this image so funny to me? :v:
why is she sitting so close to her screen why is her screen so big [editline]13th February 2014[/editline] maybe she has a tiny head
Well at least they're not adding "xe" bullshit.
What does the * mean?
You don't really get a free ipad. :(
2 options are enough tbh
2 options are enough tbh
People who have non-conforming genders should be accommodated for. Besides, this does no harm. You still have the standard male and female options, and you choose if you want to go custom.
I thought androgynous referred to someone who has a rather genderless appearance and not a gender? Or did something change when I wasn't looking?
They could just replace it with a blank box to type in so you can type in whatever you like.
They could just replace it with a blank box to type in so you can type in whatever you like.
But then people would just use it for silly jokes.
I still wonder why people get their undies in a bunch over someone calling themselves something else when it comes to gender/sexuality. I'm not going to magically make the world implode, even though that sounds pretty neat.
this is pretty cool for the people who want it, but sometimes I'm really put off by people who insist on a specific set of pronouns that aren't there for much other than to be new pronouns. I understand neutral ones but some people go way overboard on stuff. still, if it's what makes you more comfortable with representing yourself, all the power to you. The only self-identifying thing I refuse to believe is anything but an elaborate ruse is this weird sect of people some friends of mine found where they identify with conditions they don't have, IE person who doesn't need glasses identifying as short sighted, people with fully functional legs considering themselves paraplegic, etc. There's even "trans-fat", aka 'fat person trapped in a skinny body, who wants to be treated as if they're obese despite their physical appearance'.
I thought androgynous referred to someone who has a rather genderless appearance and not a gender? Or did something change when I wasn't looking?
androgyny is more than appearance
People who have non-conforming genders should be accommodated for.
yeah but when you cut out w/e title they wanna call themselves it's either male or female. Gender is black and white
yeah but when you cut out w/e title they wanna call themselves it's either male or female. Gender is black and white
well sex is biological, gender is a social construct. which is why your sex is male or female but gender could be different things
But then people would just use it for silly jokes.
So? If people want to call themselves polysexual rabbit otherkin then they should. However, everybody else will be able to see it, so that's probs a disincentive.
But then people would just use it for silly jokes.
like how my religion is pizza [editline]e[/editline] my gender is pizza [sp]because everyone wants a slice of me[/sp]

I think if they could, it'd just allow for transphobes to try to make a very stupid point, and I dunno, being able to put stupid shit would just kind of cheapen the whole thing.
How the fuck can facebook add this but still not add a dislike button?
How the fuck can facebook add this but still not add a dislike button?
because this isnt inherently negative whereas a dislike button is?
