I don't think these terms will ever achieve wide use because no one outside of those people really care. Not in a cruel way, but the gay/trans people I've met and talked to, I know they obviously have different views on gender and that's all the info I need. Why would I ever need specifics.
yeah i know this is tangential but why is cheekily referencing a literal white supremacist board super in right now? We certainly don't pay any attention to stormfront
because a paradigm shift is currently happening among the rightwing right now that might get really ugly people are sort of noticing it

oh come on, I can put whatever I want in the religion and politics fields, why can't I set my gender to Anarcho-Communist [editline]also[/editline]
... What? [editline]14th February 2014[/editline] That's 4chan though, or am I missing something here. [editline]14th February 2014[/editline] OH, because there's a fylfot in my avatar right? stormfront? haha that's funny you're funny
Are you seriously not familiar with how bad /pol/ is? They make /b/ look like Fred and George Weasley.
Honestly, I'm not particularly familiar with 4chan at all.
Can I identify as a carrot? [t]http://i.imgur.com/3FiofsF.png[/t]
I'm okay with him identifying as a carrot as long as he actually commits to it and buries himself
I was just thinking that. Wouldn't it be more simple to just remove gender entirely? Ideally, it's totally irrelevant.
What I want to know is how many people would have identity problems if they were raised speaking a genderless language.
I wonder if in the future they will ever have a similar option for relationship status.
A term that people invented to promote gender neutrality in the same vein as something like "hir." Basically meaningless but for some reason using "she" or "he" is evil to some people now.
I don't know how serious you are with the last part, but it's very little to do with "he" and "she" being 'evil' or anything like that, it's that English doesn't have dedicated gender-neutral terms that can be used in the place of them. Them/ their/ they're work pretty nicely however. Having gender neutral terms is really useful for referring to people who you don't actually know the gender of, or people of a non-standard gender that don't fit the binary. They aren't bad words to have at all. A lot of languages have them, English doesn't for reasons.
because tumblr is going to have a hissyfit over something that a large collective part of the userbase has been asking facebook to do for a very long time yes tumblr is going to do that
Yes, tumblr will do it, because a group of idiots on there is going to find something negative about this and use that to justify them disliking this.
I feel this idea is one that's mainly shared in the LBGT community and not as much with the outside world. It's kind of annoying when you say it like it's just a fact. [editline]14th February 2014[/editline] this is why there should just be an Other option. In a few years who knows what people will have decided their labels are. Hopefully they won't need to label themselves at all but pf
It's a well accepted fact and its concept is well known with the psychiatric community. The gender binary is a social construct unless you're under the notion that men and women evolved into the roles society has for us. In which case I'd call you an idiot
I'm not gonna lie, I still find the whole gender spectrum thing to be incredibly weird and I still raise my eyebrow at some of the people I see who are incredibly... specific. But... fuck, not my place to tell them what they can and can't do, and it's not impacting my life or anyone else's life in any negative way, so if they're desperate to apply some really weird label to themselves then more power to them I suppose.
I think it's still going to be a long time before society finds this kind of stuff anything other than obnoxious.
Yes, tumblr will do it, because a group of idiots on there is going to find something negative about this and use that to justify them disliking this.
a small group of idiots makes up all of a community. -no one ever
how do you make the 'custom' choice appear? i've refreshed countless times and whatnot but it's not there. what am i doing wrong nevermind, only available to the US currently
You can be a cis male and cis female, what? [editline]13th February 2014[/editline] in fact I think you can be multiple combinations of everything, even the ones that contradict each other
Apparently Musician isn't a gender...
just have a slider between male and female
We shouldn't be settling for anything less than dynamic four-dimensional venn diagrams. For example, I'm a non-binary queersexual tree from the hours of 3:25PM-8:40PM, which overlaps with the time I'm a nyesexual republikind that goes from 7:30PM-2:30AM, with little five minute bursts of multiple-sexual mandog interspersed as context demands. Facebook is WAY in the past if it's not accommodating to this simple lifestyle choice.

I know some people who freak out and go into a disjointed, rage-driven rant when someone calls them he/she because of their sex rather than their gender, as if those people were supposed to know when someone doesn't like binary pronouns to begin with.
these genders need some kind of goddamn diagram or like, tenses (like going to/currently going through/finished transitioning followed by male/female) because i have no idea how trans-man and trans-male differentiate. it really doesn't help that people either sarcastically or sincerely make up genders (trans-fat which then mutates into thin privilege or whatever) and pronouns maybe they could make like, a chart or something? fuck i don't know as for the actual implementation, that's neat i guess.

I never thought I would see the day when gender confuses me more than a fucking car engine.
Came in here expecting a bunch of people bitching about it being stupid or silly or pointless Was pleasantly surprised that the majority of people are getting behind it
But then people would just use it for silly jokes.
I don't see the problem with this People already set their place of work at hogwarts and say they major in swag. [editline]13th February 2014[/editline]

Fuck the phrase cis. Seriously. Like I should be ashamed of my gender.
How the hell does the word Cis make you ashamed of your gender? Cis is literally just the opposite of trans in latin.
Fuck the phrase cis. Seriously. Like I should be ashamed of my gender.
Fuck the phrase hetero. Seriously. Like I should be ashamed of my sexuality.
Fuck the phrase cis. Seriously. Like I should be ashamed of my gender.
What are you talking about? Cis in latin it means "on this side of", it's just used to have an actual term for a person whose gender matches their birth sex. Kind of the same way we came up with "white" to avoid calling people who weren't racial minorities "normal", as that term would imply something is deficient about the latter. So it's actually for the exact opposite purpose of what you described.
What does the * mean?
its a wild card for the more creative ones
Fuck the phrase hetero. Seriously. Like I should be ashamed of my sexuality.
Hetero isn't used almost exclusively to shame someone for being sexually average.
