No there is only place for steam, fuck off EA
They charge fees for pre-ordering
Uh what? Someone please link me to a non-wrong article that points this out. [editline]7th October 2011[/editline]
To be honest I widely prefer steam as a drm rather than a publisher-depending shitty ass DRM because at least you can play without internet connection (offline mode works very well for me).
I've always been able to play my games off EADM offline, and it works better than Steams offline mode.
[DemoMan] THERE CAN BE OOOOONNNLLY ONNNNNNEEEEE![ [/DemoMan]
The only reason people hate Origin is because they've been using steam for all those years and they are so goddamn hellbent on thinking that change = bad.
Or it could be that EA in general have horrible, horrible practices. Need I point you in the direction of "Sin to win competition" or "You mom hates this"?
Or it could be that EA in general have horrible, horrible practices. Need I point you in the direction of "Sin to win competition" or "You mom hates this"?
I don't see what does dumb marketing have to do with how their digital distribution service works?
The best experience? if by best experience they mean Connection Issues,Games not appearing on the list Origin servers crashing then it is! the best service!
Those issues are really not known to me at least.
I downloaded the battlefield 3 beta on origin. Since i have a crappy internet at my uni accommodation it took 6 hours to download. When it reached 100% i was like YES!! time to play BF3. But no, it starts downloading past the 100% mark to 5.2GB then i went to get some food and when i come back it says 2.3GB downloaded then 1.4GB i was gutted....
Sounds exactly like Steam when it first launched. There was also the time offline mode in Steam required you to log in online first, so if you had no internet you couldn't play your games. I just keep games I want to buy on an automated price watcher for both Origin and Steam, which ever one puts that game on discount first wins the race.
Yes, but Steam was breaking new ground. Origin isn't. It's launching into a mature market with competitors. So to lack those features is shocking.
I've been using Origin for a bit and I can really actually say it's as bad as people make it out to be. Maybe if they changed pretty much every feature of the service than ,maybe they would function as an actual competitor.
I've been pro-Origin since they announced it because the lack of competition drove Steam's prices up to ridiculous levels (much more expensive than retail!)
Steam doesn't choose the prices, it wasn't the lack of competition that drove the prices up.
I just don't get what's the fuss about Origin. It's pretty much just EA store with a new client.
I just don't get what's the fuss about Origin. It's pretty much just EA store with a new client.
Well for one thing the EA store (I'm assuming you mean the EA Download Manager) sucked ass in the first place
IMO Origin is basically EA's way of getting more $$$ With Battlefield 3 as an Origin-exclusive they pretty much try to squeeze as much money as possible out of the BF3-players and that's just greedy and makes you look like a bunch of money-obsessed asswipes. It's a quest to the top of the "richest game company" competition and it sucks so much ass that everything is centered about good graphics and money now.
0They don't.
Steam has a monopoly by far when it comes to music players. Come on, everyone has an Ipod.
Well for one thing the EA store (I'm assuming you mean the EA Download Manager) sucked ass in the first place
Then they made it better. Steam was ass when it came out too.
Then they made it better. Steam was ass when it came out too.
No, they really didn't. Origin is actually more broken than EA Download Manager was. And stop using the "Steam was bad when it was new" argument. It doesn't hold up because EA Downloader/EA Link/EA Download Manager/Origin has existed since 2005. That's before Steam even offered third-party games for download. It really hasn't improved much since then.
I don't mind Origin, but it looks awful and clunky. I will probably only use it for Battlefield 3, and Mass Effect 3, if it requires Origin.
The two competing for more ground, ending in the customers getting some pretty good deals!
The problem is that you can't choose where to download them from. If there weren't estore exclusive games then that would be true but its not.
I've been using Origin for a bit and I can really actually say it's as bad as people make it out to be. Am I the only one who has never had problems with it?
Then they made it better. Steam was ass when it came out too.
No they didn't, I've been using the damn Download Manager for several years, it sucked and it still sucks.
And I can say the exact opposite, its not that fucking bad. Am I the only one who has never had problems with it?
I've had two major issues with it. The first being when something is downloading in order to see how fast it is downloading I have to right click to open a context menu then hover over the item in question to see its progress. This never happened with EADM The other issue is pretty major and I might have difficulty expaining it. While downloading something it downloads at 250kb/s. Seem normal so far right? When I look at my network activity monitor it says its going at 350kb/s (As fast my connection allows). Its clearly downloading at a rate of 250kb/s, so what is Origin doing with the other 100kb/s? edit: Oh yeah and the download for the Spore Bot Parts appears to be broken and doesn't work.

So same issue, different servie.
Well with Steam thats just a visual mistake. The issue I'm describing with Origin is some sort of terrible packet loss or something.
Have you tried asking support? They usually fix issues and even give you a free game :v: Unlike Steam Support which is really non-existant and then that leaves you with the internet which is full of "I have this problem." "So do I! What do?" "Same!" And it continues till someone posts a fix that doesn't actually fucking fix shit.
Never had an issue with Steam support, worked great.
All I've had are issues....and then reinstalling everything fixed them. I've done this 7 times.
Facepunch apperantly supports monopoly [editline]7th October 2011[/editline] yet hates apple
Hahaha, zing!
(much more expensive than retail!)
This might be true in Europe I guess but in america its one of the cheapest ways to get games besides getting Russian copies. You need to remember that steam is competing with stores like gamestop and have the edge in not having to ship, box and put a CD in there games so they can (and I would say normally do) sell games cheaper.
Umm All Valve games Rage Brink Skyrim SR3 DX: HR Various indie titles Mount and Blade New Vegas Hard Reset Homefront Mafia II These are just games off the top of my head that need steam to be able to play on the PC. There are a fair few more. And for the more resource intensive ones, I want the choice to not have to activate the game on steam, just as I want the choice to not have to activate games on Origin.
I can totally dig this, but for me steam is like a big, fucking excellent, library. I dont have to keep track of CDs, keygens and other stuff that comes with a game package. The last Box copy i bought was Dark messiah. I do of course still buy box copys but thats because I have no choice, since they're not available on steam.
