Tbh it sounds like quite a lot, my insurance here is something like £400 (~$500) a year, having it $300 a month seems extortionate, but the raise in premium is kind of expected when you're an idiot driver.
I pay €55 a month. You pay as much insurance in 2 months as I pay in an entire YEAR. I could literally buy a decent 2nd hand car for 1 year's worth of US insurance premiums.
There are a variety of reasons for why car insurance in the US is so expensive.
1) The insurance system and model/industry in the US is exploitative.
2) There is a huge frequency of accidents and little effort for people to respond responsibly.
3) There is an an enormous amount of Fraud.
AgentFazexxx here is actually guilty of insurance fraud currently by failing to admit that his wife was on her phone while driving, and that is in fact a reason why premiums cost so much.
My wife was playing on her phone and hit two people
You should be mad at your wife then. Not the insurance company.
Insurance prices are a rip off because people keep crashing their cars while on the phone
When you crash your car it has an effect on everyone's insurance prices

Well to put it in perspective, the average driver in my city would probably be paying some where from 150$ a month, to 250$ a month, and we're one of the more expensive in Canada. Depending on where you go in the states, what the state laws are, and what kind of coverages a company is offering, car insurance can be very cheap, or very expensive.
It sounds like in Agents case that he likely lives in a state with a reasonable amount of mandated coverages that he's liable to carry and that's part of the expense. The other side of that is that he likely lives in a very expensive place to insure with lots of car related insurance claims of all varieties and that can increase insurance costs dramatically.
The prevalence and abundance of situations like his, and the absolute inability to admit fault is the largest reason why the US and Canada have such high premiums.

1 year worth of completely jacked premiums because the driver put people into dangerous situations with full self-awareness of it twice in a tiny amount of time. So would any person's. What if one of those fender benders had been a pedestrian?
People who use their phones while driving without a hands free kit should be punished severely.
On topic: what yer man did was heroic but also risky. Hope he'll be able to get a new vehicle.

I think wickedplayer would be proud of this post.

I just want to add on here that I pay $54 a month because I don't play on my phone, and have never had an accident or a ticket. You pay more in one month than I do all year.
You have to prove your worth with insurance, my first year of driving was something like £1400 (fastish car for my age), 7 years later with no claims and no licence penalties I now pay just under £600 for two cars fully comp, breakdown cover etc
I don't think there's really a point in harping on faze for this
Just there's more to car insurance being expensive than it being a "Scam"
$671 a month
Rekt. I pay $35 a month. It might be because I don't mess on my phone and don't cause accidents.

I'm talking about his pre-accident rates. I pay €650 a year, his pre-accident rates were $680 for 2 months.
Why is Facepunch full of people that disagree with everyone?
Yeah, it's OUR fault. Go ahead and continue ignoring the fact that your wife is a terrible and dangerous driver. If I had my way, she'd have lost her license for a year after the first time she hit someone while texting, and after the second it'd be permanent.
There's absolutely zero excuse for distracted driving and it makes my blood boil that you treat it like nothing and blame the fucking insurance company. If one of the people she hit was on a motorcycle, in all likelihood they'd be dead. Distracted driving rear enders are the #1 cause of death for bikers, and to you her crashing into those people was an mild inconvenience.
Your ignorance of the people your wife hurt is astonishing as well. You say that she hit someone and you call THEM an asshole for getting insurance involved? Even if you said you'd pay for it out of pocket, which I would never trust in a million years, you're totally ignoring the inconvenience of having to get the car repaired, and above all else, you're ignoring the fact that insurance covers diminished value as well. The instant your wife hit that person's car, no matter how slight you say the damage was, that car became worthless, and your insurance had to cover that lost value. That wouldn't have happened if that "asshole" didn't involve your insurance.
Take some fucking responsibility for yours and your wife's actions.

I'm assuming he's talking about his 2-car, 2-driver premium, not $680 per car.
I'd like to just take a moment to say I'm genuinely surprised that the driver even noticed the other guy having a stroke, let alone know what to do. I wouldn't know what to do, and I'm sure as hell sure that most people wouldn't know what to do.
Most people when they see someone driving into the guardrails are going to think "oh shit get away from him before he hits me", not "hang on a minute somethings wrong". And even if they know something's wrong, they most likely wouldn't think to cause a crash in order to stop the vehicle.

Sounds like the insurance company is doing exactly what it's supposed to. Risky drivers pay more. Two accidents in two months is more than the average driver.
Stop being a shitty driver and your wife should put the phone down. There's nothing wrong with what happened, only that you're trying to play victim.
Will Agentfazexx drop the bird or continue defending his own little "idiot"? Find out next week in the Dating and Relationship Advice Thread
Calling her an idiot is kinda fucked up though bro.
I don't know where the hell you hail from son, but over here playing games on your phone while driving on the road is considered pretty damn dumb.
[...] No crazy high end supercars either. Hers is a 2013 Elantra and mine is a 2013 Civic Si. Insurance is just a legalized scam intended to do nothing but rip the people off you're there to help, allegedly.
It's not about your cars (which the insurance probably wouldn't pay for anyway due to phone use if they knew), but the cars and health of the people she potentially collides with. Since she actively endangers people on the road, she's way more likely to cause incidents than most other people.
It's totally appropriate that the premiums were raised from causing the accidents alone, but I kinda hope someone tells them about the phone use so they bump it up again.
This may sound harsh, but considering she obviously didn't learn not to play phone games while driving from the first collision, I'm honestly not sure I want her to be on the road at all.
Wonder what insurance companies are like in Germany.

Actually they'd attack the guy who had a stroke because his car hit the rear of the Tesla's. Insurance companies are asshats like that.

It's your wife's fault for fucking with her damn phone behind the wheel and she shouldn't be on the road if she can't put her fucking phone down while driving. Honestly, she should have had her license revoked for six months on the first offense and for a year + a month in jail or $25,000 fine for the second offense. Third offense should be a permanent driving ban revokable only after 5 years and completion of suitable courses, and if a fourth offense happens an irrevocable driving ban should be the penalty. It's reckless. Worse than blowing a 0.08 levels of reckless.
You got off lucky if the only repercussions of your wife's inexcusable stupidity is a doubled insurance premium. Now pull her license, stop defending her negligence, and drill some sense into her head before she kills someone. It isn't the fault of the insurance company your premiums are so high.
Sorry for continuing the off-topic, but I don't even know how people would dare to mess with their phones while driving. I'll have my phone hooked up through aux to stream Spotify while I'm driving, and at the most all I will ever do is try to find the skip to next song button on the lock screen while continuing to look ahead. If I ever wanted to change playlist, I'd pull over to do it. And texting while driving is completely unacceptable.
It's a 70,000 dollar car, it's popular, and Morgen is telsa boy.
because they're made of aluminum, so bodywork is extremely expensive!

My car has a stereo a few years old in it, and you can switch songs by pushing the volume knob left or right.
Have you tried soemthing like that? I only found out by accident, but saved me fiddling with my phone and looking ahead while trying to skip something.

Uhhh, I don't actually see anything wrong with insurance increasing for someone who plays with her phone and drive though, your wife is more at risk or getting into an accident than someone else not on her phone so of course your insurance would go up.

..Fucking what? Yeah, of course they're gonna increase your payments, your wife is fucking dangerous dude
It's not the insurance company that sucks, it's your wife's respect for anyone on the road
Funny how there are more people talking about Agentfazexx's wifes irresponsible driving than the article itself :v
