People that fuck around in their phone shouldn't have their insurance premiums raised, they should lose their licenses. Driving is a privilege, not a right, and if you put other's lives in danger due to your gross negligence then you can get fucked.

If it were USB or Bluetooth then I could prob use the buttons on the sound system.
Insurance companies SUCK in the US. My wife was playing on her phone and hit two people within like two months or something over the summer, not even real damage. The first accident didn't even need to go thru insurance, but the asshole she hit reported it...and his truck was without a scratch. My insurance went, in November, from $374 a month (which was already outrageous) to $671 a month. No crazy high end supercars either. Hers is a 2013 Elantra and mine is a 2013 Civic Si. Insurance is just a legalized scam intended to do nothing but rip the people off you're there to help, allegedly.
People who play on their phone while driving a car should lose their licence and go to jail. That is just recklessness.
Fuck anyone who messes on their phone while driving. Maybe you should appreciate she is still alive.
Fixed, I know people that have lost love ones because of reckless shit like this myself included. Snapchat / text isn't worth your life or the life of an innocent bystander.
Calling her an idiot is kinda fucked up though bro.
You know what's fucked up? Driving a several ton vehicle at speeds much faster than humans can naturally go and being so dismissive that you play a video game while doing it, TWICE, and being upset when your insurance raises your rates because the driver is grossly negligent.
this entire thread is now dedicated to that post and i aint even mad
if i saw someone unconscious EDIT: in a car speeding down the highway, the last thing i'd think to do is try and body block him with my car lol. good on this guy though, he clearly made the right choice
if i saw someone unconscious on a motorcycle speeding down the highway, the last thing i'd think to do is try and body block him with my car lol. good on this guy though, he clearly made the right choice
Why motorcycle? The guy was in a passat.
I love how anyone could think there even is the slightest bit of argument for distracted driving. It kills tons of people. It is reckless as fuck. There are tons of instances where the damage is benign, until it isn't. You know what else follows the exact same symptoms and arguments? DRUNK DRIVING.
Why motorcycle? The guy was in a passat.
wow i just had a total brain fart and somehow assumed that was a motorcycle build
No anyone who is driving a large metal machine going excesses of 30 mph who takes their eyes off the road for games, social implications or anything of that nature is generally an idiot who doesn't value the lives of others. What if she had hit someone out of a vehicle? What if she hit someone prone to medical episodes? Just because "it didn't go as bad as it couldve!" is such a shitty excuse, especially if she did it TWICE in the course of TWO MONTHS.
It's not so much a disregard for others' lives, it's more a lack of respect for the metal boxes they're responsible for controlling. Self-driving cars are needed to save drivers and those around them from that lack of respect. It's much easier to police programs than it is people, and as far as Tesla goes I trust the people doing the programming.
Actually they'd attack the guy who had a stroke because his car hit the rear of the Tesla's. Insurance companies are asshats like that.
That is essentially the default position in terms of liability if a car is hit from the rear. Except in this place there is a plethora of evidence explaining what really happened. If it was third party liability insurance, then no one should expect the insurance company to pay out (in this case), except out of the goodness of their (lack-of) heart. [editline]16th February 2017[/editline] Also lololol at agentfazexx's post. I don't think I've read anything that everyone on Facepunch has unilaterally disagreed with except for their post.
Props to that Tesla driver for his actions, I've also been around an elderly driver who was having a stroke. It's really quite a scary thing to witness since there's not much you can do until their car comes to a stop. The person I was behind almost planted his car into a telephone pole as he tried to make a left turn. I didn't have my phone on me, but thankfully the person in the car behind me was able to call 911 after we both pulled over to check on the old guy. Also @ agentfazexx - what is wrong with you? Your wife was showing a complete disregard for other people if she was playing on her phone while driving. That sort of behavior has no place on the road, driving isn't a goddamn game. Especially at this point in time when everyone knows that cell phones and driving don't mix with each other...there are no excuses for what she was doing. Bare minimum she deserves to lose her license for a while. Do you really think people are just disagreeing with you for the sake of disagreeing? You're lucky that increased insurance premiums were the worst thing to happen when she hit those other vehicles.
Rekt. I pay $35 a month. It might be because I don't mess on my phone and don't cause accidents.
It's because insurance here is ass, though obviously that high is because of the accidents. I pay $180/month and I've never had any accidents and all my tickets when I was younger have since cycled out of the time period. But I'm also under 26, so that raises it.

I just got in one, a little dent on the bumper, $2000 for a new bumper. Sorry your wife didnt learn her lesson the first time.

Using a phone while driving can and has lead to the deaths of both drivers and pedestrians/other drivers alike. She got lucky by not causing major damage to herself or others, I hope your wife learned to not use the phone while driving before it's too late for your family.
Guys wait stop I'm pretty sure they were just joking or threadshitting. Or, at least I hope they were.
Guys wait stop I'm pretty sure they were just joking or threadshitting. Or, at least I hope they were.
It's honestly hard to tell nowadays. Idiots like these are unfortunately quite common.
They don't know that part.
did you seriously just admit to lying to your insurance company on a public forum?

You're charged more because she's technically more of a risk to insure.
In contrast to agentfazexx's example, this past August I got rear-ended in a highway clusterfuck into another vehicle, and the guy who rear-ended me fled the scene. My insurance gave me a rental car while they assessed the damage, and when my car was ruled totaled, they paid out promptly. I bought a new car, still have the same provider, and my rates haven't budged. Turns out insurance companies are much more consumer-friendly when you're not the one endangering others and causing property damage. Who knew.
Cuz remember...Tesla drivers are saving us from global warming
Maybe in the long run but it is actually more harmful to create new cars due to the manufacturing processes and the use of materials. It would actually be more eco friendly to buy a used EV.
did you seriously just admit to lying to your insurance company on a public forum?
Its unlikely someone will track him down. [editline]16th February 2017[/editline] Faze, if you deny thqt driving with your phone in hands is downright dangerous and has similar impairment levels to that of drunk driving then you should go and cut your drivers license in half for the benefit of your fellow citizens. I also check up my phone or text while drive on occasions, but i take as much precautions as possible and do not lie to myself that this is not irresponsible thing to do.
Well, this thread got interesting quick.
