But I hate Star Wars....
ok congratulations
Everywhere, studio suits are recruiting creatives who can weave characters and story lines into decades-spanning tapestries of prequels, side-quels, TV shows, games, toys, and so on. Brand awareness goes through the roof; audiences get a steady, soothing mainline drip of familiar characters.
sounds utterly disgusting
Here's hoping for the Kotor movie, and a Jedi Knight series game return and a movie ( I WANT A JEDI TEMPLE SEQUEL! )
I always keep getting mentions in Star Wars threads
Tartakovsky Clone Wars cartoon isn't a part of the new "canon".
Oh, so now when we see Grevious coughing, it isn't because Mace Windu smashed his chest. He just has pneumonia.
Also they ALMOST made Revan canon again, but scraped him at the last second.
Old Republic (the faction, not the game) is canon, thought. They even used the same logo that TOR uses.
I don't think they're going to keep TOR non-canon forever, there's money to be made after all.
Star Wars movies are going to become the new comic book heroes movie with annual releases.
Oh god just imagine. After this movie we will a movie for each character and then we get Star Wars VIII. And then they start with the spin offs, maybe that guy who lost his arm in the cantina has a tale to tell.
maybe that guy who lost his arm in the cantina has a tale to tell.
Well there probably already was. The only difference being it was in an out of the way book rather than a movie.

I don't think you quite understand how deep Star Wars deep lore is.

i mean shit like that is the reason I was happy with the EU being wiped clean.

There's a lot of good shit in the EU that got wiped out too.
There's a lot of good shit in the EU that got wiped out too.
A worthy sacrifice. There was far more shit than there was good. For every KOTOR there were 15 self insert Mary Sue characters, and for that alone it's good it got wiped.
Bold and the beautiful is about to get a new rival
Sith and the forceful :v:

There's no guarntee that the new canon will be 100% better. Not just with new movies, but with the next round of books, comics and games. The Aftermath novel that came out September's getting grilling as bad as some of the crazy novels from the 90s.
Also, remember the zombie stormtroopers from the Death Troopers book? Thanks to them being included in one of the new mobile games, they're presumably as good as canon still.
Only thing i wish for is a true dark and gritty Star Wars movie where serious shit goes down.

Or a bit like 1313.

The first spin-off movie, Rogue One, is sort of promising to do that.

Not everything is going away, but it's kind annoying having to be on the lookout to see if the stories you like are going to make in the new canon.
With the laws of probability, the number of movies they want to churn out guarantees that there will be a number of movies that are bad, possibly worse than some of the bad EU stories.
I don't know why people saying the EU being wiped clean solidifies movie writing as good or better.
Just do like the walking dead. Have one long ass tv show and then maybe another one in 5 years.
So much Star Wars I WANT TO GOUGE OUT MY FFFUCKING EEEEYYEES!

The Yuuzhan Vong :(
And Disney said they were going to make tron a franchise, nothing is ever set in stone
the Tartakovsky Clone Wars cartoon isn't a part of the new "canon".
Who in their right mind decided that this isn't canon?

That was entirely a financial decision, this is too.

The "NO EXCEPTIONS" policy for rebooting Star Wars canon beyond the films and the Lucasfilm-house Clone Wars cartoon, apparently.
Annoying, yes, but thankfully nothing says it can't have happened since the 2nd show ended before they could write their own lead-in into the events of Episode III.
THRAWN. WHEN.
RIP Shadow of the Empire, Republic Commando, Heir to the empire, Thrawn Trilogy, Dark Forces and Jedi Knight series, Kotor 1 and 2, everyone in the 2003 CW cartoon and Rogue Squadron/X-Wing comics, and the exclusively badass club of now dead by canon, Alpha 17, (the battle of Jabiim by extension) Boba Fett, Kyle Katarn, Quinlin Vos, Jango Fett's backstory in Open Season, Mara Jade, Baron Fel, K'Khruk, Durge, and Santa Yoda.
oh my god can we get good star wars movies like the games
pls

Republic Commando is canon.
Republic Commando is canon.
WHAT REALLY
think of it this way
in george lucas's posession he would do 1 or 2 things.
1. Remaster the films until the originals stop existing as movies and become fully CGI
2. Make another star wars film that's even WORSE than the prequals, and then he dies and the series is buried in his grave
or this happens, where we at least GET star wars movies. Even if they're 'average' its tapping into a series with massive potential, and hopefully never gets prequals bad.
I'd pick the latter any day.

So they exist in canon, but none of the badass things they did in the game or in the novels are canon.
None of the things they did in the game or first book contradict canon, the rest will be determined as it always is.
