Who THE FUCK would want to ban the single most innovative piece of technology in history, apart from the wheel, and the spoon. WHY.
Because they get more money and they won't get hurt by it because they are rich enough to follow copyright laws and still do internet stuff the same way that everyone else does.
I wonder if it'd be possible to get the two major internet players, Google and Facebook, against this, too. Considering this would cut into their profit margins pretty deep.
They already are.
Here's a question I have for many of you:
If this damned thing actually passes, do you think that the number of people in the 'Occupy' movement will grow?
Occupy WallStreet would the "best' thing the could do. I expect riots or massive drop in ISP servers from users.
Fuck SOPA.
I'll send some e-mails and stuff because if America goes through with it, I'm sure as fuck the Australian government would go through with it considering the fact they suck up to the American government.
Actually, what would happen if Google, Facebook and the others just said "Fuck it" and moved everything to Europe?
We (the rest of the world) would be fine, but the US would still be able to block stuff internally (as China does).

It certainly is a disturbing time when the United States Congress considers a bill similar to the censorship in a Communist nation.
Forgive my ignorance, but does this SOPA bill effect non-Americans at all? I really don't know much about it, but surely companies could just do what they do for China and modify their websites and such for USA?
It could effect us in two ways in my mind, the first is directly. There would probally be an increase in self censorship on websites with user generated content (even forums) by the owner / staff to prevent them being blocked.
The second possible effect would be other countries liking how well SOPA is "working" and pushing similar laws through in.

It is, internet censorship is something that belongs to totalitarian dictatorships.
But hey, at least your government (to my knowledge anyway) wasn't condemning internet censorship and promoting freedom on the internet in the early months of this year and then pushing through censorship laws later in the year.
Gotta love the hypocritical British government, but that's another matter.
Similar to censorship in a communist country? I know no country that is communist. No, china is not communist.
Wouldn't this be a big clusterfuck? I mean, if I read right, they can send normal people to jail for streaming stuff, singing music, etc. What about people under 18? Kids and teenagers? What, send them to jail?
I wonder what the effects would be on sales for things if it passed.
We should test it in Wisconsin. Fuck Wisconsin.

I would pray for you americans if I was religious.
I'd think even if the SOPA did pass, it would not go well for those firms who want it to pass.
From what I'm aware of, this censorship bill prevents you from doing anything related to american media, such as singing the song and maybe parodying films, or just anything american with a copyright.
Anything that happens on the internet is a promotion; for example, a new lady gaga album is out. She's popular and all, but how is it going to spread, you don't see it on youtube, you'd definitely want to listen to it before you spend money on her new album (maybe because you are unsure), and all TV is going to give is just short snippets, and there's that chance it'll only be on the radio later; the answer is piracy, but then they end up having the song for free.
Same applies to movies. Remember the Dark Knight? "Why so serious?" That meme spread quite fast imo. Imagine how much people it got to. Same with all the other popular music parodies and memes. Censorship bill eliminates these free promotions. It also prevents the expression of fandom. The fans will obviously be mad when they can't sing their favourite "baby" and post it on youtube; this is especially vital if they want fans to stay dedicated to their brand. It'll only pull down their sales even further.
If they're worried about piracy, they should take a new approach to profiting off their products. Movies don't have to fret because they still have blu-rays and cinemas to back them up from piracy, it's no wonder movies still make revenue by the millions. The US music industry may still be thriving, but the censorship bill will definitely hurt it unless come up with a new approach to profit of their music and albums.
My two cents right there.
Edit:
Crap, forgot the concerts >.<. Well, they don't happen often anyway, but still, they're going to be hurt.

this so ture
this is what I posted to my facebook: "The United states government is attempting to pass a bill called "SOPA" IF this bill passes it will make it a crime to post any kind of copyrighted material to the internet and give the Government power to take down websites that "infringe" the Acts of this bill.(Yes this does include Facebook, Youtube, Thepiratebay, and any other website that may stream copyrighted material.) This is censorship at it's worse people you must wake up. You must fight it. We cannot allow this to happen. We must fight the proposed tyranny. Please do something about this."
If this passes, I hope any company that supported this goes Bankrupt and those who voted fore it get booted out in 2012. (I only wish we could do it sooner.)
Say goodbye to Facepunch
Everybody say, bye Facepunch~*
People want to make money. This bill will hurt a lot of consumers.
If it happens I'm going to leave the damn country. Garunteed.
Who THE FUCK would want to ban the single most innovative piece of technology in history, apart from the wheel, and the spoon. WHY.
Oh no, they don't want to ban it you see. All they want to do is make it niiiiiiceeee and safe. So that they can see what you're doing and prevent you from doing anything that they don't want you to. Why not allow this bill to go through? If you've got nothing to hide, why fight it?
[sp]For those who's sarcasm detectors are broken, I was indeed trying to be as creepy as possible there[/sp]
If it passes, such chaos will occur. The bill is really vague and I bet filled with loopholes.
When singing a cover is considered offense, you know it's time to move out of your country.
This kinda makes singing in the shower illegal.
My posts from the previous thread on Round 1:
IF this bill passes, over half of internet users will be jailed.
Another reason why it won't pass, we don't have enough room in prison, or the funds, nor do we have enough police force to go out and arrest these hundreds of thousands of people.
Things are overpriced. That's the reason why piracy will never stop, no matter what you do about it.
Besides, I can half understand them wanting to stop piracy of the major things. It does hurt sales. Not enough to notice, but in this terribly economy, every cent counts. And when money is short, people become rabid and desperate for any ways to grab money. Sure, things like that have been happening for years, but the worse the money problems get, the worse the festering pile of money grubbers get. Trampling people who need it for REAL reasons, instead of luxury items that most stars get... (Though it is lovely that they tend to donate to charity a lot. It makes it less rotten.)
But not being allowed to sing a song and post it on YouTube or something?
Don't you think that's the least bit ridiculous??
Still stand by this, and adding now in agreement to Oblivious1's post, that ontop of this, it would be the equivalent of doing nothing at first.
Why, you ask?
At first, all it will do is harm the consumer. It won't change the benefits of the companies. Because they'll gain money by less piracy, but lose it at the same time, because of less publicity available. They'd be gaining as much as they lose, effectively doing nothing for themselves.
Eventually, since people will find a way to pass things under the government's noses, they'll even lose more money. And then they'll lose more money over time due to less publicity to the average user who doesn't know of this under-the-radar shady trick; or the average user who knows, but is bind by fear.
All in all, if congress were to actually use their brains, they'd realize this, and give it up.
But, congress? Brains? They don't mix.
And that's where the brains of millions of smarter people come in to give 'em a brain-duster with this... "movement", so to speak.
It's bad, when a government's own country has to step in and think for them.
I wonder what the effects would be on sales for things if it passed.

don't you talk shit about my state
bitch i'll cut you
I'm just glad they can't prosecute me from all the way there.
We should like, make a community website, not based in the US and unload a crap ton of pirated content in it.
This isn't gonna pass.
We should like, make a community website, not based in the US and unload a crap ton of pirated content in it.
Great idea! Let's call it ''The Pirate Bay''! Oh wait....
Great idea! Let's call it ''The Pirate Bay''! Oh wait....
The Pirate Bay doesn't host any pirated content, though.
:v:
Einstein was right, there is no limit to human stupidity.
I just had a thought, If Obama Passes this, he'd be known as the President who effectively Killed the internet. Think of what this would do to his campaign.
I wouldn't wish that title on any president, even ones I dislike due to what happens to the internet with it.
